Lord of Mysteries: The Color of the Stars

Chapter 3 The Cat Without a Top Hat

Julian Albrecht.

The woman spoke softly, her words possessing a magical power to calm the soul:

"Nice to meet you, I am a follower of the 'Goddess of the Night'."

"I have met Lady Ariana."

Julian was startled, but quickly composed himself.

He naturally realized who the person was, after all, the only person who could dress like this and claim to be a favored one of the goddesses was the one in front of him.

He just hadn't expected that this person would come in person.

The head of the thirteen archbishops of the Church of the Night, the abbess of the Monastery of the Night, a Sequence 2 earthly angel, "Hidden Servant" Ariana!

Hearing Julian's words, Ariana's eyes showed some surprise:

"You are indeed different... Even though you are a descendant of the Jacob family, you shouldn't know my identity."

"Thank you for your attention, goddess."

Julian did not elaborate further, but simply smiled and drew a black night emblem.

At this point, he was completely certain that the "Goddess of Night," Amanisis, must have heard his earlier prayer, which was why she sent Ariana.

The appearance of an angelic goddess's favored one also indicates that my experience just now was anything but ordinary.

After a moment's thought, he tentatively asked:

"I wonder what brings you here today?"

"You should have noticed that the potion you just had was very unusual, and you should also have some doubts about it."

Upon hearing Ariana's words, Julian stopped smiling and nodded.

This wasn't Julian's first time taking a potion, but he had never had such a bizarre experience.

The intense color resonance and terrifying sense of tearing made it seem as if he had not taken a Sequence 9 potion, but a Sequence 4, Sequence 3, or even an angelic potion.

So much so that even the great beings of the astral plane seemed to be watching—to be honest, if Ariana hadn't intervened in time, Julian suspected he would have been hit by a "Leodro" and blasted to smithereens.

"As you said... I don't really understand my current situation."

Julian said, "So I'd like to hear your perspective on this."

"In short, the great being that polluted you, though it has split, even to an extremely small degree, does not seem to be completely dormant or sealed away."

Ariana said:

"This is a very rare case... Normally, their will only gradually awakens in their subordinate extraordinary beings after they possess divinity. The fact that you, a Sequence 9, can sense its presence can only be explained by one possible explanation."

She looked up at Julian:

"That is, He actively chose to split, and in some unclear way maintained His own clarity, and stayed by your side."

"This is an extremely dangerous state—as your sequence level increases, He may be able to project more influence directly into the realms governed by the true God."

"In fact, the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom ordered your capture in order to control you and find out the true intentions and methods of that great being."

"Of course, if necessary, He will choose to eliminate you directly, so that all potential problems can be nipped in the bud."

Upon hearing this, Julian frowned:

"Won't the Church of the Night taking me in cause trouble?"

This statement contained a test; Julian hoped to gauge the Church of the Night's tolerance for him through Ariana's response.

If this tolerance is only minimal, Julian will have to consider his options.

Seemingly sensing the underlying meaning in Julian's words, Ariana replied:

"There will be trouble, but for those at the top of the 'Sleepless' pathway, the danger is currently manageable."

"The goddess judged that the power of that great being seemed to be related to 'color'... that power was so strong that it almost illuminated the entire astral plane."

"But this is precisely what the 'sleepless' are restrained by."

"Furthermore, rather than killing you, we prefer to use you as a window to observe how things unfold until we figure out the true intentions of that great being."

"Therefore, as long as you go to the Church of St. Serena for 'requiem' regularly every week and pray to the goddess before each ascension, there will be virtually no problems, at least before the higher sequences."

"Can I pray directly to the goddess?"

Julian raised an eyebrow:

Will He respond to me?

"It's possible, it's possible; the goddess's intentions are unfathomable."

Ariana shook her head:

"But your request should be resolved; at the very least, I will offer you assistance."

"……I see."

Julian realized that he was now essentially an unofficially recognized chosen one of the goddess.

The reason he wasn't officially recognized was because the goddess was unwilling to make any promises to him. If something happened that she couldn't handle, she could simply kill Julian.

At this stage, however, He seems willing to make some investment in him, but Julian is still unclear as to why He would undertake such a dangerous attempt.

"Thank you anyway, Ms. Ariana."

Having said that, Julian drew a dark holy symbol on his chest:

"Wow, goddess!"

"Praise beauties, goddess."

Ariana nodded slightly, and then her entire silhouette vanished as quickly as a pencil drawing erased by an eraser, leaving Julian alone.

Julian took a deep breath, quickly took a shower, ate something, and changed into clean and presentable clothes. He finally began to gradually adapt to his extraordinary four-color vision.

Just then, he suddenly heard a knock on his door.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Smith... or should I call you Captain?"

Julian opened the door, saw Dunn, and asked with a smile.

At this moment, Dunn's black coat and trench coat looked somewhat greenish, while his gray eyes appeared to Julian as a purplish-red color.

This gave him an unusually strange feeling.

"Just call me Dunn. You're an advisor and expert, not a member of the Night Watch team, so you don't need to call me captain."

Dunn shook his head.

"Get in the car."

"Where are we going?"

Julian asked the question knowing the answer already.

"Iron Cross Street".

Dunn's tone remained calm as he opened the carriage door, revealing Leonard Mitchell inside, wearing two-star epaulettes.

"Good evening, Professor."

The young man, with a poet's temperament, gave Julian an exaggerated bow.

Good evening, Leonard.

Julian nodded slightly to Dunn, who had extended his hand in a "please" gesture, and then boarded the carriage.

"You seem a little different than you were at noon."

Before Dunn got into the car, Leonard winked at Julian and whispered.

"Otherwise, why do you think I'm here?"

Julian glanced at Leonard, who was putting on an air of mystery, with amusement:

"In this day and age, it's not easy for a rune to get an official position without having some kind of problem, let alone become an advisor."

Leonard paused for a moment, then didn't respond.

He felt that Julian was hinting at something, but he wasn't sure.

In fact, Julian was just stating the facts and was not targeting anyone.

Not to mention that there aren't many normal people among the royal family, military high-rankings, and royal advisors in Rune, just take the small Tingen Night Watchers team, for example, there is a captain who eats the extraordinary characteristics of his teammates, Leonard, who carries an old man with him.

If nothing unexpected happens, a new Cat No Hat who secretly doubles as the head of a cult will soon be joining us... oh no, I mean newcomer.

In a sense, Tinggen is a typical example of a small temple with a lot of trouble.

On the way, Dunn handed Julian a document concerning the person they were to investigate that day:

"Klein Moretti".

"really……"

Julian's eyes flickered slightly as he looked at that somewhat scholarly face.

Julian knew more about Klein's situation than anyone else present, but he still pretended to be reading the documents carefully, with a focused expression like an old scholar.

Just as he was getting sleepy, a creaking sound came from the inertia.

At this moment, the carriage finally came to a stop.

"We've arrived at Tieshizi Middle Street."

Dunn said in a low voice.

The next second, the coachman opened the carriage door, and Julian's eyes were met with the rather dilapidated street scene outside.
