Lord of Mysteries: The Color of the Stars
Chapter 19 Family Scandals Should Not Be Washed Up in Public
"This is absolutely beyond your expectations."
Julian quickly realized what was happening and smiled at Oakley:
"Your Excellency, as Miss Barrehart said, Mr. Vancent is currently busy, and I can help you with that."
"If you are not satisfied with the divination I have provided, you can consult Mr. Vancent again later—but I believe you don't need to wait until then at all."
Upon hearing Julian's words, Congressman Oakley initially hesitated, but ultimately nodded.
"You can give it a try."
"Miss Barrett, please prepare the best divination room for us."
Julian smiled and gestured for Oakley to proceed.
"Please come with me, Mr. Oakley."
Guided by Angelica, the two arrived at a spacious divination room that was clearly intended for VIPs.
A white crystal chandelier hangs from the ceiling of the divination room, and the beechwood table is very neat, with everything needed for divination on it.
After serving the two freshly ground coffee, Angelica left the divination room.
"Sir, please go out as well."
Julian turned to Oakley's entourage and spoke.
"But……"
The butler-like attendant hesitated for a moment, then Oakley spoke to Julian somewhat rudely:
"Mr. Albrecht, is that right?"
"I am your customer, so I believe I can decide who can stay here."
"After all, this is our first meeting. I would feel more at ease if someone I know were with me."
"No problem, if that's your preference."
Julian wasn't angry; he simply smiled slightly.
"But I don't know if you've heard what Emperor Russell said: 'The fewer outsiders who know about the scandals in your family, the better.'"
"Although you may trust this gentleman very much, in my opinion, there are some topics... that are better left unsaid to him."
Upon hearing this, Oakley was visibly shaken.
The way he looked at Julian also changed noticeably, and even his breathing became heavier!
"Miller, you go out first and keep an eye on the door."
Oakley turned to the butler and gave him instructions.
"Yes, Viscount."
The middle-aged butler named Miller nodded slightly, then very respectfully stepped back and left the room, closing the door behind him and standing outside.
"Mr. Albrecht, what exactly do you mean by 'family scandal' that you just mentioned?"
At this point, Oakley had started using honorifics and his attitude had become more serious.
"You've come to me for a divination because of a health issue, right?"
Julian smiled slightly, noting that the current development of events was entirely in line with his expectations:
"My sleep quality is getting worse and worse, I often have migraines and tinnitus, my physical and mental state is also very poor, and most importantly, I've started to lose weight rapidly, and even doctors can't find the cause?"
"Indeed, it seems you are indeed a skilled diviner."
Oakley's eyes became eager:
"I came here to ask about the condition of my body."
He then began to recount his ordeal: about three months ago, the viscount and Conservative MP began experiencing symptoms of neurasthenia, headaches, and loss of appetite, and soon after, his weight began to drop rapidly, losing 20 kilograms in just one month.
This terrified Oakley. Doctors had suspected he had diabetes or had been exposed to some toxic substance, but these assumptions were ruled out after further testing.
Given the tight security at his estate, Oakley vaguely suspected that someone close to him might have done something to him, but he lacked evidence and therefore could not easily accuse anyone.
After listening attentively, Julian took a deep breath:
"Ordinary doctors can't find the problem, because they only know medicine, but they know very little about the mystical."
"Mysticism?"
Oakley's expression changed drastically:
"You mean...?"
"Someone is cursing you with evil means."
Julian nodded, confirming Oakley's guess.
When Oakley entered the divination club, Julian not only noticed the various incongruities caused by Oakley's extreme thinness, but also saw that the aura around Oakley was tinged with a distinct grayish-brown spot.
The light spots, like termites, slowly eroded Oakley's mental strength and spirituality, disrupting the energy balance of his body.
On the other hand, the grayish-brown color did not originate from Oakley's body, but was exogenous—this can be seen from the location where it adhered to the glow.
Oakley's eyes narrowed upon hearing this, his gaze revealing alarm:
"curse?
"By the way, from what you just said, you're implying that the curse was cast by someone close to me? How are you so sure?"
Julian could tell that the viscount still didn't want to believe it, so he extended his index and middle fingers and tapped the corner of his eye:
"My eyes are different from ordinary people's. I can not only see people's character, fortune and health status from their appearance, but also see some special conditions."
"The curses that are invisible to you are visible to me... In my eyes, they each have their own colors."
"Since I met you this afternoon, the power of this curse has been slowly weakening... I guess you feel better after going out for a walk or getting some sun, but then your condition quickly worsens again after you return home?"
"That's right."
Oakley paused, then suddenly realized:
"You mean...?"
"Yes, the power of that curse is subtle, but its source is in your home."
"The farther you are from your home, the weaker the curse becomes, until you return home, at which point it will 'refresh'."
After saying that, Julian took out an amethyst pendulum from his person.
Julian kept the pendulum because it was confiscated from Jarvan Kennedy and because of its excellent design and appearance.
Although the "Four-Colored Awakeners" are not as skilled in divination as the "Diviners," they can still perform basic divination.
With most of the information already determined, he only needed to determine whether the source of the curse had a physical entity, as an auxiliary judgment.
Soon, the amethyst pendulum began to rotate clockwise with a large amplitude and high speed.
This means "yes," and to a strong degree.
Julian nodded slightly, then put the pendulum away:
"Your Excellency, before you fell ill, did anyone send anything or any gifts to the family?"
"Gift?"
Oakley thought for a moment, then said with some disbelief:
"My eldest son, Jennings, once gave me an antique clock from the early Fifth Age..."
After saying this, he suddenly began to tremble all over, and said in disbelief:
"Could he really go to such lengths for the benefit of those factory owners?"
