Card Master: My Special Feature - Choose One of Three
Chapter 49 Traitor
The psionic fluctuations appeared suddenly and then vanished just as abruptly.
To ensure the safety of staff and customers, after the Secret Service agents left Wan Jin Plaza, the mall activated the main control switch to lower the roller shutters, cut off water, electricity, and gas, and forcibly closed the mall.
Xia Yuebai and Lü Dantong originally wanted to take Bai Miao and Yan Li to check out the famous queue king in Wanjin Department Store.
Finally, Bai Miao took him to a deep alley on the edge of the business district to eat beef offal hot pot.
The small, dirty, and dilapidated shop has a large iron pot set up at the entrance, where beef offal is bubbling and steaming.
A few old tables and a few crooked stools are set up, and most of the diners are elderly people living nearby.
Fen Yuan always comes with Bai Miao and is already a regular customer of the store. She found a seat by the fan and sat down.
He chuckled and tore off a napkin, then wrapped it around the tapioca pearls on both sides.
One card wasn't enough, so they drew out a second, then a third.
Pinky punched the cat repeatedly, tumbling and laughing as it dodged and weaved.
The shop owner knew Bai's father, exchanged a few pleasantries with Bai Miao, asked how Bai's father was doing, and made an appointment to go fishing together sometime.
"Brother Bai, this beef offal hot pot doesn't look like much, just a hodgepodge of ingredients stewed together, but it's surprisingly delicious."
Yan Li mixed the beef offal into the rice and ate it as if it were water, slurping down bowl after bowl.
"Isn't this much food enough for you?" Bai Miao pushed the rice bucket next to Yan Li.
Xia Yuebai and Lü Dantong clearly had never been to a place like this before.
At first, I was a little reluctant and couldn't find a place to sit. I wiped the tables, chairs, bowls and chopsticks with a wet wipe before carefully taking my seat.
Seeing how much Yan Li was enjoying his food, and finding it to be quite delicious, he also started eating to his heart's content.
Back in the dormitory, Bai Miao still smelled of beef offal on him when Yun Chuxiu entered the house from the courtyard.
Yun Chuxiu is great in every way, except she doesn't like to use the main entrance.
"Based on your description, you encountered a regional envoy from the All Souls Society."
The rose-scented hand sanitizer had a faint smell of blood in it. Yun Chuxiu followed Bai Miao's fingertips and wiped away the bloodstains on her cheek.
"The mind of the leader of the Myriad Spirits Gathering has been influenced by the demon beasts for a long time. He acts entirely on his whims and has no logic to speak of. Tonight's chaos is just the beginning."
Yun Chuxiu had many dealings with the Wanling Society when she was in Shenjing City, and had some understanding of them.
"Each realm lord has the strength of a third-tier card master, plus the spirit realm lord who accompanies them. If an ordinary third-tier card master encounters them, they will have no chance of survival."
Yun Chuxiu practically had "I'm so lucky" written all over her face.
If it weren't for the All Souls' Society members' usual erratic behavior, there would probably have been a fierce battle tonight.
"I've discovered something interesting about Yin Changfeng," Yun Chuxiu said, a glimpse of delicate white peeking through the gaps in the plaid pattern of her gauze skirt. Bai Miao looked away.
"He and Shi Jindai have a very deep connection," Bai Miao added to make it clearer for Yun Chuxiu, "second only to my connection with Jiang Nianqing."
Bai Miao and Jiang Nianqing are cousins, their fates naturally intertwined.
Bai Miao then told Yun Chuxiu that Shi Jindai was an alumna of Yujiang University, but Chi Tengzhou had no recollection of her.
"Interesting," Yun Chuxiu quickly concluded, "With Shi Jindai's looks, she would be the center of attention wherever she goes, it would be hard for her not to be famous."
Yun Chuxiu, who has benefited from her improved appearance, has a lot to say about this.
"This situation can only mean that she was unremarkable at Yujiang University, but after leaving Yujiangcheng, she had a miraculous encounter and underwent a complete transformation."
As for what kind of extraordinary encounter it was, there are many possible interpretations.
In high spirits, she unpacked the beef offal that Bai Miao had packed, found a pair of chopsticks in the kitchen, and tasted a piece of beef intestine.
"This beef intestine is quite good. Take me to the restaurant to try it next time."
"Yin Changfeng told me that they sent out a distress signal, but no one entered the spirit realm to rescue them."
Bai Miao's fingers gently picked at the seams of the sofa cover. Seeing the look in Bai Miao's eyes, Yun Chuxiu chuckled softly and put down her chopsticks.
"Is this a sign of doubt?" Yun Chuxiu wasn't annoyed. She lifted Bai Miao's chin with one hand, and Bai Miao keenly sensed the bloody smell that couldn't be masked by the scent of roses and offal on her fingertips.
"I did receive the distress signal," she said, turning Bai Miao's head away and crossing her arms over her chest, "but Lu Yue blocked my way and I couldn't rescue him in time."
"I just finished interrogating him," Yun Chuxiu smirked, revealing sharp canine teeth. "Didn't you smell the blood on me?"
"You probably guessed it, there's a traitor within the Secret Service."
After Yun Chuxiu dropped the bomb, she instructed Bai Miao to observe secretly and act accordingly. When she left, she did not close the door leading to the courtyard.
The night wind blew for a long time, but it couldn't dispel the scent left by the clouds emerging from the mountains.
"Why can't we send a card master from another city who can summon lie detector or divination cards? What traitor? A test would tell us everything."
Bai Miao was exhausted; he didn't know in what form Yun Chuxiu would launch the investigation.
It's not a good thing for the Secret Service to start suspecting each other from within.
The following day, Yun Chuxiu notified all Special Operations Bureau agents via a notification on the Bureau's intranet that Lu Yue was a mole for the All Souls Society.
With the endorsement of Zuo Changqing, the Director of the Bureau, no one doubted the authenticity of this notice.
Everyone who participated in the team leader assessment was suspected without exception, and even the two team leaders who sacrificed their lives, Lin Ran and Min Hongzhe, were not spared.
When Bai Miao visited Yin Changfeng in the ward again, he and his colleagues in the medical department had conflicting accounts.
Yin Changfeng wanted to end his treatment early, but the medical department was unwilling to let him leave.
"They call it treatment, but it's actually house arrest," Yin Changfeng said, punching a hole in the wall. He had indeed recovered quite well.
He also learned that Lu Yue was a traitor and understood why his colleagues in the medical department had become so ambivalent towards him.
"You're so angry, have an apple to cool down." Bai Miao picked up the same fruit basket as last time, ate one himself, and tossed the other to Yin Changfeng.
"What? Are you here to laugh at me?" Yin Changfeng, unable to vent his anger, chewed on the apple viciously.
"No, I came here because I need your help with something." Bai Miao put the half-eaten apple into Fen Yuan's arms.
He pulled out a few posters of Shi Jindai from under the fruit basket and handed them to Yin Changfeng.
"Two of my teammates are die-hard fans of Shi Jindai."
Yesterday at school, I heard from the teachers that Shi Jindai and you had a good relationship in college.
So, I've come to ask you to get me some autographs.
Seeing that Bai Miao was enjoying the tapioca pearls, he took out a peach from the fruit basket.
Yin Changfeng stared at the photo Bai Miao handed him, noticing even a trace of Shi Jindai in his memory.
He just thought Bai Miao had mistaken him for someone else. "The Shi Jindai I know doesn't look like this. She can't help you."
"Don't rush to reject her," Bai Miao interrupted him, suggesting, "Why don't you give her a call or send her a message? Maybe she looks like this right now?"
Bai Miao seemed determined not to leave until he got a signature, while Yin Changfeng searched through the contact list in his messaging app.
I found Shi Jindai's name in the corner and sent her a message.
"Look, it's out." Yin Changfeng held up his phone in front of Bai Miao.
Bai Miao noticed with his sharp eyes that their last chat history was from Shi Jindai.
"Yin Changfeng, I hate you! You'll regret this!"
"She said she hates you, and you still messaged her asking for her autograph?" Bai Miao truly admired Yin Changfeng's shamelessness.
He nonchalantly showed Bai Miao his pile of chat history, which remained in the chat boxes with messages like "I hate you" and "You'll regret it."
"She's not the first person I'd regret, and she won't be the last."
