Tokyo: I'm really not a killer

Chapter 10 The Investigator's Failed Infiltration

Inside the Yamakaze office in Senju-Akebono-cho, Adachi Ward.

Rin Shinomiya discovered that the building looked simple on the outside, but the interior was quite luxurious, with red carpets in the corridors, crystal chandeliers overhead, a private elevator, and 24-hour security.

Don't ask her how she knew; she was arrested and saw it with her own eyes.

Last night, Shinomiya Rin scared away four or five customers with her stern face. The manager, unable to bear it any longer, fired her. She immediately took off her suit jacket and shouted, "I quit!" Then she pulled out a credit card and tried to humiliate the manager with money...

As a result, the store manager refused to serve her, saying he wouldn't make money from her and told her to get lost.

Rin Shinomiya finally understood. The manager knew very well how difficult it was to be a waiter, which was why he spent money to hire someone else to do the job.

She was furious, so she went to a convenience store, bought a water-based pen, and doodled on the store manager's sign, drawing a giant middle finger and captioning it, "The chef picks his nose when making sushi"—this wasn't a rumor; she saw it with her own eyes when she served the food.

The store manager was so angry that he started cursing. His first reaction was not to call the police, but to go to the gang leader who had paid protection money and ask him to help him deal with the matter.

Shinomiya Rin realized things had escalated and tried to escape, but failed. Several thugs from the mountain construction group cornered her in an alley, groped and searched her, and found her police ID.

"What are the police from the port area doing here?" the thug questioned.

Rin Shinomiya is bad at lying, so she puts on a defiant stance and refuses to say a word. The thugs think she's a detective who's there to keep an eye on her, so they drag her into the office and hand her over to Wakanoka to deal with.

If Zhong didn't take it seriously, he would have his men set up cameras and film a documentary called "The Investigator Who Failed to Infiltrate," and after he finished, he would sink the body into the sea.

Rin Shinomiya planned to bite her tongue and commit suicide. She never thought of this as a game from her first day as a police officer; she was already mentally prepared to sacrifice herself at any time.

The camera was ready, and Ruozhong informed his younger brother, thinking that the eldest brother should go first.

My younger brother recognized Shinomiya Rin the moment he arrived. Holding up his police badge, he exclaimed, "Really... isn't this Representative Shinomiya's daughter?"

"Huh? Is it that big of a deal?" Ruozhong asked.

"Member Shinomiya was elected by the National Essence Association. He is the Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party and also has dealings with the group." The younger brother was not at liberty to elaborate.

The Kokusuikai is a long-established and extremely influential yakuza group in Japan. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call it the emperor of the Japanese underworld. It often acts as a mediator between the Sumiyoshi-kai, Inagawa-kai, and Yamaguchi-gumi.

They have few members, are integrated into politics, business and the underworld, never engage in street fights, and their per capita wealth and social status far surpass those of the Yamaguchi-gumi.

The Yamamoto Group is just a branch of the Yamaguchi-gumi. It has to pay political donations to specific members of parliament every year, so it is impossible for them to offend such a behemoth.

"What should we do then?" Ruozhong sensed something was wrong.

"Keep him under house arrest for now, I'll go report to the team leader," said the younger brother.

And so, Shinomiya Rin was kept under house arrest at the agency for a day, where she tried to escape but was caught and brought back. She tried to call for help from the outside world but found that the office had its own independent telephone line.

In the end, Rin Shinomiya could only place her hopes on the director and her partner.

She didn't go to work all day; they should notice something's wrong, right? Yuan Zhensheng knows what she was doing last night; maybe the station chief is already organizing a search and rescue operation…

Rin Shinomiya lay sprawled on the luxurious sofa, gazing at the soft crystal chandelier, feeling like Sleeping Beauty under a witch's spell, forced to passively await rescue.

She waited from night to day, and then from day to night again, but the team leader didn't come to question her, and the police didn't come to rescue her. Apart from the food delivery boy, no one paid any attention to her.

hateful!

What are they dawdling about? Why aren't they here yet!

Shinomiya Rin sat up abruptly, realizing she couldn't wait any longer; she had to find a way to save herself!

……

Let's rewind to last night.

The air in the basement of Senju Akebonocho was thick with the smell of blood.

As soon as my younger brother entered the room, he saw purple lights on and knew that the team leader was dealing with important matters.

If the leader stood behind the door with a blank face, he gestured to his younger brother to wait a moment, saying that even the most important matters had to wait until the group leader finished his work.

Through the transparent plastic curtain, he could see bloodstains all over the floor.

The man in the shirt slumped against the wall, burying his face in his hands and pleading, "Please... don't hit me anymore... please stop hitting me..."

A shadow blocked the ultraviolet light. The team leader stood in front of the man in the shirt, his prominent brow bone and cheekbone casting shadows around his eyes.

"Get up," said Kanekichi Kuwata.

"I...I was forced...I had to do this to earn money for my daughter's medical expenses..." the man in the shirt sobbed.

He was a newly hired chef at the mountain construction team. He took money from someone and tried to poison the food of Kuwata Kenkichi, but ended up killing the person who tested the poison.

"I'll give you a chance to settle this fairly and squarely," Kenjiro Kuwata said in a low voice. "Aren't you trying to raise money for your daughter's medical expenses? Stand up and fight me."

The man in the shirt swallowed hard, staggered to his feet, and before he could even get into a fighting stance, he was kicked to the ground by Kenji Kuwata. The fist, as big as a sandbag, left him with a bloody head and broken teeth.

"waste!"

"You bastard!"

"A rat hiding in the shadows!"

With each punch he threw, Kenkichi Kuwata would curse angrily.

He hated those who stabbed him in the back, those who only dared to use underhanded tricks, and those who were cowards who bullied the weak and feared the strong.

Just as the man in the shirt was barely breathing, a sudden ringtone sounded, and the mobile phone on the table vibrated along with it.

"If you dare to make a sound, I'll send your daughter to work as a hostess."

After saying that, Kenji Kuwata answered the phone: "Moshi Moshi?"

A gentle female voice came from the other end: "It's me, Xiaowei. Did you eat dinner on time today?"

"Ah, not yet." Kuwata Kenkichi's tone softened immediately. He didn't want his younger brother and Wakato to see, so he turned to the side and leaned against the corner of the wall, lowering his voice.

"Really, no matter how busy you are with work, you should still eat properly," the other person asked.

"Oh dear, I was indeed about to eat, but something unexpected happened..." Kuwata Kenkichi glanced at the man in the shirt, "Dad will remember to eat once he's done with his work. Don't bother calling to nag about such a small thing."

"Okay... shall I come home for dinner tomorrow?"

"It's not very convenient lately, I need to go on a business trip out of town... There's nothing I can do, being a real estate agent is just this tough."

"Then be careful and don't mess with the underworld. I heard there was another shooting in the villa area. If you encounter danger, run away immediately."

"I know, Dad's not an idiot." Hearing the suppressed laughter from the young man behind him, Kuwata Kenkichi quickly said, "Alright, that's enough, I need to get back to work."

"And then there's saying goodnight?"

"Uh, oh dear." Kuwata Kenkichi hung up the phone, turned around, and demanded fiercely, "What are you laughing at?!"

If you can't hold it in anymore, you'll burst into laughter, pounding your fist on the wall.

My younger brother stood to the side, wanting to laugh but not daring to. If he were the group leader's brother, a laugh wouldn't be a problem, but if he dared to laugh out loud, he'd be saying goodbye to his little finger tonight.

The man in the shirt seized the opportunity to plead, "Please... you have a daughter too... you should be able to understand how a father feels, right?"

Kuwata Kenkichi ignored it.

He picked up the large iron hammer, dragged himself forward, and, under the horrified gaze of the man in the shirt, raised the hammer high with both hands:

"You can't even protect your own daughter? How dare you call yourself a father?"

The hammer fell as the words were spoken, and the sound of flesh and bone shattering echoed from the basement, with brains splattering onto the transparent plastic curtain.

Kuwata Kenkichi wiped his hands, glancing sideways at Wakato and his younger brother: "What brings you here?"

The leader spoke first: "Miura sold some information that someone offered 100 million to hire an assassin to kill you..."

Unable to listen any longer, Kuwata Kenkichi turned to his younger brother and asked, "And you? What's wrong?"

"My men mistakenly arrested Representative Shinomiya's daughter..."

Kuwata Kenkichi scoffed, "It's all just petty nonsense." He paused, tossing the blood-stained handkerchief aside. "I've changed my mind. I'll go home for dinner tomorrow."

"What about the rest of the group?" Ruotou asked.

"Since there's nothing important to do anyway, I'll let Ichiro take over as usual," said Kenkichi Kuwata.

The "Ichiro" he mentioned is actually named Nagashima Ichiro, who looks remarkably like him and is his personal stunt double. Over the years, he has repeatedly escaped assassination attempts thanks to intelligence and his stunt double.

Before leaving, Kuwata Kenkichi instructed, "Try to capture that assassin alive. I want to find out who sent him."

"Yes."

Ruotou replied, "If he dares to come, he will surely not return."
