Why is his holy light red?

Chapter 55 The Distinguished Guest Isn't You

The three walked side by side toward the women's clothing section.

As soon as I got closer, I saw several club staff members standing at the entrance, actually stopping people.

Rex walked straight over and said, "Who wants to clear the area? Who kicked my friend out?"

The staff member, clearly not daring to offend him, quickly explained, "I'm sorry, Mr. Rex, but the club has distinguished guests, and there are confidentiality requirements. Your friend isn't a member, so..."

Such high-class clubs are always strictly hierarchical. If Rex himself were here, the staff might have exchanged a few polite words, but Nora was just someone brought in to "broaden her horizons," so she was naturally asked to leave.

Just as Rex was about to continue negotiating, a group of five well-dressed men and women approached from the other side. Interestingly, despite it being nighttime, everyone was wearing large sunglasses.

Mercury looked over and vaguely felt that the other person looked somewhat familiar.

The tall, strong, bald man at the head of the group looked familiar.

Rex burst out laughing: "I thought it was some big shot, turns out it's just von Dier?"

Von Dill?

Mercury's mind skipped a beat; the name seemed even more familiar. Could it be a superhero?

To Mercury's surprise, even though it was Rex who called out his name, the bald man von Diehl stared at him for a few moments before walking straight toward him.

"Mercury Anderson, is that you?!"

Mercury looked at the group of men and women wearing sunglasses in front of him, and didn't recognize a single one of them.

"Do you know me?" he asked, somewhat puzzled.

Feng Dier sneered, "How could I not know you? Thanks to you, my new movie has to be postponed before it even premieres."

Upon hearing the word "movie," Mercury finally remembered.

The bald man in front of me is indeed a person with superpowers, but not a superhero; he is a movie star who has recently become quite popular.

I vaguely remember seeing this guy's name in Mercury. His superpower seems to be telekinesis, so every movie he has a pretentious pose. He stands there posing, and then various objects and enemies fly around him. His expressionless acting combined with this pretentious pose is his personal trademark.

"What does your movie's delay have to do with me?" Mercury asked, bewildered.

"Of course it's related." Von Diehl took off his sunglasses, staring at him with an unfriendly look. "The Radiant One is a major supporting character in this movie. Thanks to you, we now have to reshoot all the scenes involving him."

He paused, then continued, "Of course, I want to thank you. After all, you exposed the Lightbringer's crimes, and justice was served, wasn't it?"

His words were full of sarcasm and irony.

Normally, von Dier should not behave so erratically in public.

But Psychic was someone he hired at a high price, with his salary alone exceeding a million dollars, not to mention the production costs of filming the movie. More importantly, this is a superhero movie series, and Psychic has a backstory; now, just rewriting the script is making him lose money hand over fist.

Not only that, but the release date also needs to be adjusted; the theaters are ruthless vampires that devour people without spitting out the bones.

It's fair to say that this movie was destined to lose money if it wasn't released online, and it would lose even more if it wasn't released at all.

Von Deer had planned to live off this superhero movie series until retirement, but now he's facing bankruptcy.

Half a lifetime of hard work can be ruined in an instant; no matter how good-tempered you are, you can't help but lose your temper when you see Mercury.

Mercury listened to this, but simply smiled: "Yes, justice has been served, and the guilty must bear the consequences. Even celebrities are no exception, don't you agree? Big stars."

Von Diehl's eyes narrowed. He clearly hadn't expected that this young man, despite his age, would possess such a high level of sarcastic and unsettling mannerisms.

He glanced around and roughly guessed what had just happened, then gave a composed smile: "Looks like you've come at the wrong time. I just happened to be designing a costume for the female lead in my new film, so I made an appointment with the designer."

"I'm so sorry, I didn't expect the club to value our new movie so much, even clearing the area for us. It seems the club understands that those who get in through their parents' reputation can't compare to those who earn their membership through their own hard work."

"However, if you insist on going in, I can give you a chance. But remember, don't take pictures, don't talk, and don't bother us. Just stand quietly to the side; children shouldn't disturb adults."

Rex's knuckles turned pale from clenching his fists, and tiny arcs of electricity danced wildly between his fingers, producing a dense series of crackling sounds.

Von Diehl ignored it, even calmly adjusting his collar.

He recognized Rex's identity and was deliberately provoking him. A headline like "Storm King's Son Attacks Movie Star at Private Club" would generate massive traffic for his new movie, regardless of the truth, enough to offset some of his previous losses.

Mercury reached out and pressed down on Rex's shoulder. He could feel Rex's muscles trembling; his anger was on the verge of exploding.

"Calm down, Rex. You have a special status. If you make a move here, you'll be trending on social media tomorrow."

Rex understood this principle as well. His father was the Storm King, which gave him the confidence to act recklessly, but for a normal person, it became a constraint.

Seeing this, von Dier slowly put his sunglasses back on, struck his signature screen pose, and said sarcastically, "Did you hear that? Go back to your father and cry, you little brat."

Mercury sighed inwardly; this time, he truly couldn't persuade him otherwise.

If it were just a verbal exchange, it wouldn't be a big deal, but Von Diehl's words were like stabbing Rex in the heart.

Rex's sanity crumbled instantly. His figure blurred abruptly, and he transformed into a blinding blue-purple bolt of lightning, leaving a trail of almost charred afterimages in the air.

Regardless of status, position, or laws and regulations, Rex just wanted to tear this bald man's mouth apart!

But as soon as Rex approached Von Diehl, it was as if he had crashed into an invisible wall of glue, and his speed suddenly dropped drastically. The air visibly twisted and deformed, forming an extremely viscous and transparent barrier.

It was Von Deer's telekinesis that was at work. Although he was just a celebrity and not a superhero, the power of his telekinesis was indeed strong, and he could easily lift a small car.

Rex's strength wasn't particularly high to begin with, and being captured by this force field made him feel like an insect caught in a net, almost unable to move an inch.

"Is that all you've got?" Von Diehl looked at Rex, who was crawling like a snail, and laughed contemptuously. "No wonder you were kicked out of Atlantic City."

After being mocked to this extent, Mercury couldn't take it anymore. He turned his head and whispered to Nora, "Cover us, protect yourselves."

Without the slightest hesitation, Nora flipped her hands, and countless soap bubbles burst forth—at an alarming speed, instantly coalescing into a wall of bubbles that enveloped everyone.

Mercury was about to rush in and drag Rex out when he suddenly heard a scream.

It wasn't von Dier, nor Rex. It was the group von Dier brought.

At the same time, Mercury also felt something strange – Rex's high-voltage current. However, the red holy light on Mercury's body instantly sensed it and blocked the current, which was powerful enough to render someone powerless.

Where did the current come from?

Mercury was taken aback, then realized—it was Nora's soap bubble. The soap bubble could conduct electricity, turning the high-voltage electricity that Rex could only release by touching into a long-range area attack.

He quickly turned back to look at Nora, worried that she might also be injured by the high voltage.

But Mercury saw Nora standing behind the bubble wall, giving him a confident smile.

Her soap bubbles were controlled with remarkable rhythm; she would release a large burst of bubbles, then quickly cut them off, sending them flying towards the enemy, before recreating them. This allowed her to utilize Rex's external electrical current for wide-area AOE attacks while ensuring that the high-voltage electricity wouldn't spread to herself along the bubbles.

Mercury couldn't help but chuckle.

He was overthinking it. Nora had known Rex for much longer, and she probably already knew how to use her abilities to support her teammates.

Without further hesitation, Mercury unleashed a surge of holy light, smashing through Von Diehl's telekinetic field like a bulldozer. The barrier that had been giving Rex a headache was as fragile as paper before the holy light, shattering instantly.

He spread his five fingers and gripped the bald man's shoulder tightly.

To Von Diehl's horrified gaze, Mercury dragged him like a chick into the swirling, electric bubbles. The superstar's eyes rolled back, and his body convulsed violently, like a breakdancer.

Just as Mercury was about to push harder, the air suddenly seemed to explode.

"Bang—!"

A powerful shockwave swept outwards from them. The countless bubbles shattered instantly, and even the electric arcs were extinguished. Nora, who was far away, couldn't dodge it and was knocked to the ground by the aftershock.

The soap bubbles all dissipated.

In the middle of the corridor, only Mercury remained standing steadily. Nora and Rex were shaken off their feet by the shockwave, while Von Diehl and his gang of cronies were all lying on the ground. Occasionally, a few of them would twitch their fingertips, unable to utter a sound.

Mercury looked in the direction the shockwave had come from and saw the staff member in charge of clearing the area with a serious expression, his right hand still raised high. Clearly, the shockwave had originated from his hand.

He tried his best to suppress his emotions and maintain a polite tone: "Gentlemen, private fights are strictly prohibited in the club. If you would like to spar with your superpowers, we have training grounds available for your use."

"Damn it!" Von Diehl struggled to his feet, covered in dust and grime. Accustomed to the limelight, he'd never been so humiliated. He immediately pointed at Mercury and his men, yelling at the staff, "Are you blind? They started it! How are your people doing their jobs? You spent ages clearing the area, and you just leave these bastards here to disgust me?!"

He thought he had found the club's weakness and wanted to use it as an excuse to make trouble.

The staff member simply straightened his loosened cuffs, not even glancing at him: "I'm sorry, Mr. Von Diehl, I think you've misunderstood something. Our previous clearing of the area wasn't to serve you; quite the opposite, please leave immediately, because our truly distinguished guest is about to arrive."
