Why is his holy light red?

Chapter 13 Street Heroes

In this era of rampant superhuman power, clashes between superheroes and villains have become commonplace, leading countries around the world to jointly implement the Guardians Act.

According to regulations, individuals with superpowers who register with their real names can apply to designate defense zones. As guardians, they will receive some law enforcement powers and corresponding salaries.

Based on the strength of their combat abilities, superpowered individuals are generally divided into two main categories: neighborhood heroes and city heroes.

The Radiant One is a seasoned neighborhood hero.

His defense zone was limited to the airport in Aru Tree City and three surrounding blocks, but due to the extremely high traffic flow of the fortress hub, his value and personal ability far exceeded those of ordinary street heroes.

Over the years, he has worked diligently, solving countless criminal cases and even personally suppressing two hijacking incidents by superpowered individuals.

His superpowers seem somewhat similar to Mercury's, both involving the control of visible energy.

However, this purple aura could not be used for physical enhancement or shield defense; instead, he shaped it into a myriad of aura beasts to attack.

This ability, similar to that of a "beast tamer," has been developed to its fullest potential by the Radiant Messenger.

Just as Mercury was using his red holy light to punish the shapeshifters, the Radiant One judged that the situation was escalating and decisively used his superpowers.

A purple light suddenly appeared.

The massive serpent materialized out of thin air and tightly coiled around Mercury's body.

At the same time, several streaks of purple light splashed onto the shapeshifter like raindrops, turning into slug-like soft, sticky masses. A large amount of slimy mucus quickly gushed out, seeping directly into Mercury's fingers along the shapeshifter's collar.

The friction in his palm seemed to vanish suddenly. The harder Mercury tried, the less he could hold on. The shapeshifter he had been gripping tightly slipped out of his control like an eel.

Before the shapeshifter could hit the ground, another purple light flashed in mid-air. A giant eagle swooped down, its sharp talons gripping the shapeshifter, and then soared into the sky.

Control, extrication, and rescue—the entire tactic flowed smoothly.

Mercury couldn't fly, so he could only watch helplessly as the shapeshifter was carried into the air.

He rubbed the remaining sticky substance between his fingertips and sighed, "Reducing friction, so that's how you can play with it."

Mercury's red holy light is also nearly omnipotent, but it requires targeted training to produce the corresponding characteristics.

Faced with the Radiant Messenger's unprecedented attack, Mercury ultimately lacked the experience to counter it.

The Messenger pressed forward with one hand, and the thick, purple serpent gripped Mercury tightly. The high-density purple energy layer continued to contract, and a sound similar to the grinding of teeth as steel bars twisted burst from the air.

"Give up resistance, or else—"

Before the words were even finished, an extremely dazzling red light shot out from the center of the strangulation.

The red light on Mercury's body resembled the blooming of a red spider lily, but each petal possessed the immense force of a hydraulic press, forcefully pushing open the giant purple python. This high-density purple spiritual light quickly became unbearable and began to disintegrate on its own.

The residual kinetic energy from losing its target caused the psychic messenger's wrist to throb with pain, and his knuckles turned deathly white instantly.

He stared intently at Mercury, whose red energy was far more powerful than his purple aura, an absolute energy level of overwhelming superiority.

The Radiant Messenger stretched out his arms, and a dense purple light reshaped him in front of him.

The photons squeezed together, producing a piercing thud, and two ferocious purple wolves, each over a meter tall at the shoulder, instantly took shape. Their light-materialized claws slammed to the ground, carving deep cuts into the asphalt.

Mercury ignored the two wolves and walked towards the Radiant Messenger, stepping on the still-pulsating purple light spots on the ground.

Mercury pointed at the shapeshifter in the sky, now powerless to resist: "He's trying to kidnap my family. I just want the name of the mastermind. Ask him, and you can take him away."

"Young man, don't be impulsive," the Spirit Messenger quickly advised. "This matter will be taken over by the Hero Association and handled by the adults."

Should we hand it over to the Hero Association?

Mercury knew their rules: first, the shapeshifter had to be treated, and the interrogation could only begin once he had recovered somewhat. He was also allowed to hire a lawyer to stall for time.

By the time Mercury finishes spouting all this nonsense, his family will probably already be dead.

He was just a second away from getting the answer out of the collapsing shapeshifter, but the Radiant Messenger interrupted him.

For Mercury, neither procedural justice nor laws and regulations mattered as much as the safety of his family.

Mercury's expression vanished completely.

"If you insist on stopping me, then I won't be polite."

Bang--!!

The moment the words left his lips, the asphalt beneath Mercury's feet collapsed without warning, creating a crater half a meter deep. Red light surged along his taut thigh muscles towards his feet, then exploded with a deafening roar.

The rubble, accompanied by a violent circular shockwave, swept outwards, and Mercury transformed into a scarlet straight line, crashing headlong into the Radiant Messenger.

The two ferocious purple wolves lunged at each other to intercept, but the moment they touched the red light, Mercury violently smashed them into countless shards of light. Without even a second's pause, the fist, enveloped in intense red light, pushed aside the air currents and shoved it right in front of the Spirit Messenger's face!

The red holy light has no fancy tricks, only the strongest defense and attack.

too fast!

The Radiant Messenger's pupils suddenly shrank to the size of pinpoints, and his hands clasped tightly together in front of his chest.

The raging purple light solidified in a fraction of a second, and a massive tortoise appeared out of thin air, transforming into a thick shield to protect him from behind.

boom!

The fist, enveloped in intense red light, slammed into the tortoise's shell.

A piercing explosion rang out as the red holy light forcefully wedged itself into the tortoise shell with absolute hardness. The tortoise's photonic structure twisted and collapsed rapidly, exploding into countless fragments in less than half a second.

The remaining red light penetrated the defense and struck the Radiant Messenger's crossed forearms solidly.

With a muffled thud, the Spirit Messenger's sleeve instantly ripped apart. The immense kinetic energy surged forth like a tidal wave, sending him flying backwards for over ten meters.

The Spirit Messenger felt excruciating pain in both arms, as if they were broken. Just who was this young man? This power was far beyond his ability to withstand. Barely blocking this punch was already his limit; another one, and he feared his body would be pierced through.

However, the Radiant Messenger also discovered a problem.

Mercury doesn't seem to be able to fly!

Before the Radiant Messenger could catch his breath, the air in front of him emitted another piercing shriek, and the red light pressed down upon him like a shadow.

The Messenger gritted his teeth and, ignoring the excruciating pain of his fractured bones, stretched out his arms. Purple light surged wildly before him, and four purple cheetahs leaped out from the corner and pounced on Mercury.

Mercury was like a locomotive that had reached its maximum speed, ignoring the attacks of the cheetahs and charging forward recklessly, smashing everything in its path to pieces.

The four cheetahs quickly collapsed, but at least they bought the Radiant Messenger a fraction of a second.

A brilliant purple light shone above the head of the Spirit Messenger!

A giant purple eagle with a wingspan exceeding three meters materialized out of thin air, its thick, luminous claws gripping the shoulders of the Spirit Messenger, and its wings flapped violently. The violent downward airflow stirred up a cloud of dust, and the Spirit Messenger was lifted off the ground.

boom!

Mercury's heavy punch grazed the sole of the Radiant One's boots before striking a fire hydrant by the roadside.

The fire hydrant, made entirely of metal, was blown apart, and a high-pressure water jet shot into the sky, turning into a torrential downpour.

Mercury withdrew his fist and looked up at the Radiant Messenger hovering in mid-air.

"Are you taking advantage of me because I can't fly?"

He turned around, spread his five fingers, and grabbed the large metal lamppost next to the sidewalk.

A piercing sound of steel twisting and turning rang out as Mercury, with terrifying grip strength, crushed five finger marks into the hard alloy tube wall.

Click!

All the steel bolts securing the base snapped. Mercury, with his back fully extended, uprooted the four-meter-long metal streetlight, pulling up a large section of the cracked concrete base along with it!

A frenzied red holy light swirled wildly around his arm. Mercury took a half step back, stretched his upper arm back, and lifted the massive alloy weapon over his shoulder.

He didn't look at the Radiant One, but instead aimed the tip of the streetlamp at the shapeshifter hanging in mid-air, powerless to resist.

Just as the lamppost was about to be hurled like a javelin, Mercury's cell phone suddenly vibrated wildly, and the voice of the Iron Titan Robert came through: "Mercury, don't be impulsive, I'll handle this. Your family is safe; the Angels of Light have found them."

Upon hearing Robert's words, Mercury immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

The boiling red holy light froze for half a second, then quickly flowed back and extinguished along his arms.

Mercury released his grip on the lamppost.

The lamppost, weighing several hundred kilograms, crashed to the ground along with its base, causing the ground to tremble. The twisted metal smashed a manhole cover, raising a cloud of dust.

Mercury raised his head and looked at the Radiant Messenger, whose nerves were taut in mid-air. The boy, who had just been as violent as a demon, slowly raised his arms.

"I surrender."
