Espionage: I Have Photo Editing Software
Chapter 10 Image Editing
Wang Xinheng shook his head and chuckled:
"Are you saying that even under our strict surveillance, Zhang Zhihe was still able to collude with others to frame you? Could he have foreseen this and hidden the evidence in your bedding beforehand?"
Wei Renming pondered for a long time, "I can't figure it out either. But one thing is certain: he must have sent a message out in some inconspicuous way."
"Enough! You're about to die, and you're still spouting lies! Do you think my knife isn't sharp enough?" Chen Zhiqiang drew his dagger again, ready to strike.
Wang Xinheng stopped Chen Zhiqiang and said with a smile:
"Mr. Wei, our Special Service Department desperately needs someone like you who understands Japanese spies. If you can tell us about the film reels being sent out and their suppliers, I'll personally recommend you to the director. Why die when you can live? What do you say?"
"The Special Service Department?" Wei Renming feigned ignorance.
"Looks like you're going to have to suffer the consequences instead of accepting the offer." Wang Xinheng's expression changed.
"I'm absolutely willing to cooperate!" Wei Renming shouted, then added, "But I'm really not a Japanese spy. Even if you beat me to death, I won't confess anything I don't know!"
He really didn't want to get stabbed!
"Use torture!" Wang Xinheng's eyes were gloomy.
"No, no! Give me one more chance!" Wei Renming's mind raced. "Handwriting! Yes! The handwriting on the assassination plot is definitely not mine!"
"You're just a liaison officer, not responsible for planning the scheme! How could it be your handwriting?" Wang Xinheng retorted angrily.
"Besides these, is there any other evidence?"
Wei Renming was on the verge of tears; he was almost in despair and truly didn't know how to save himself.
Chen Zhiqiang took out the photo and placed it in front of Wei Renming.
"Isn't having the section chief's photo and the assassination plan together enough to prove your identity?"
Wei Renming's eyes lit up.
It truly is a case of heaven never closing off all doors.
Several ways to save himself flashed through his mind immediately.
"Team Leader Chen, something's not right with this photo!"
"Hmm?" Chen Zhiqiang glanced at the photo and said:
"What trick are you trying to pull now?"
Wei Renming asked, "I wonder if Team Leader Chen has ever heard of invisible ink?"
"You actually know about invisible ink, and you still say you're an ordinary person?" Chen Zhiqiang not only knows about it, but he can also make it.
"My grandfather was a wandering sorcerer who traveled all over the country for many years and was very knowledgeable. He once told me that there was a secret invisible ink that would make the writing disappear quickly after being used, and that a special method was needed to make the writing reappear," Wei Renming said.
"That's right. You mean, someone wrote on the photo with invisible ink?"
Wang Xinheng took the photo and examined it carefully, but found nothing amiss.
"What's unusual about this photo?"
Wei Renming extended his hand and smiled:
"I need to take a closer look and then I'll point it out to you."
After he finished speaking, he tensed up.
If Wang Xinheng refuses, he won't be able to access the photos, thus failing to trigger the cheat ability, and everything will be in vain.
Wang Xinheng hesitated for a moment, then, seeing that Wei Renming was tied to the wooden frame and couldn't do anything fancy, he handed over the photo.
Wei Renming took the photo, and a virtual interface immediately appeared before his eyes. It was the Photoshop software he often used in his previous life, commonly known as PS.
He suppressed his excitement, turned his head and pretended to examine the photo, but actually imported it into the photo editing software and saved it to the material library.
Once an image is stored in the resource library, it can be retrieved and used at will in the future.
"Look at the bottom right corner of the photograph; isn't it a bit blurry?"
Wei Renming slightly blurred the image.
Wang Xinheng and his companion came over to take a look and exclaimed in surprise:
"I didn't notice it before, but now it does look rather blurry."
"This might be due to the transparent traces left after the ink dried, obscuring the image. Of course, this is just my guess," Wei Renming continued, casting his bait.
"Continue!" Wang Xinheng urged.
Regardless of who wrote it, it must contain important information; otherwise, why would they go to such lengths?
"My grandfather said that most of the ink marks left by invisible ink will become visible after being heated or soaked in water. You two might want to give it a try."
When Wei Renming saw the fish take the bait, he felt calmer.
Now it's Wang Xinheng and Chen Zhiqiang who should be worried.
What secrets were written on the photograph paper was what they most wanted to know.
Wang Xinheng snatched the photograph, walked to the charcoal brazier, and placed the photograph above the fire.
After baking for a while, the photographic paper showed no change.
He then soaked the photos in a basin of water.
Five minutes passed, and still nothing was found.
Upon seeing this, Chen Zhiqiang hurriedly left.
In no time, he took a piece of cotton cloth soaked in iodine and gently wiped the photographic paper.
However, the handwriting still did not appear.
After trying these three methods, Wang Xinheng and Chen Zhiqiang frowned.
"Why isn't it working?"
Wang Xinheng took the photo and walked out of the interrogation room, intending to ask other people for questions.
Several hours later, as dawn broke, Wang Xinheng returned to the interrogation room, looking exhausted. He grabbed Wei Renming by the collar and shouted:
"You bastard, there's no trace of secret writing on the photographic paper! The blurry image is due to a shooting or developing error! What are you up to by stalling for time? Do you really think I wouldn't dare kill you?"
He tried everything but couldn't make the secret writing visible. He felt he had been tricked and was naturally furious.
The scorching sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating Wei Renming's face. Seeing his opportunity, he quickly feigned a look of sudden realization. "I understand now!"
Ignoring him, Wang Xinheng gripped Wei Renming's neck tightly with both hands, as if he wanted to kill him.
Wei Renming's face flushed red, and he forced out a voice from his throat, "Trust me, trust me one last time, we'll see in a few minutes."
"District Chief, we can't kill him now!" Chen Zhiqiang advised.
Wang Xinheng glared at Chen Zhiqiang but didn't stop until Wei Renming's eyes rolled back, then he let go.
"If you can't give me a satisfactory answer within one minute, I will kill you!"
He was indeed angry, but it was more of an act of anger.
At his level, even expressing emotions becomes a means to an end.
Wei Renming gagged twice, gasped for air, and after feeling a bit better, stretched out his hand, saying with slight displeasure, "Give me the photo!"
"Watch your attitude!" Wang Xinheng shouted.
"What's wrong with my attitude? I was arrested for no reason and tortured. What attitude do you think I should have? Bowing and scraping or begging for mercy?" Wei Renming said indignantly.
Even a clay figure has a bit of fire in it.
If you keep backing down, even if you're not a spy, you'll become one.
Of course, he wasn't stupid. He chose this time because he was certain that Wang Xinheng wouldn't dare to really kill him.
As expected, Wang Xinheng's lips twitched a few times, and he coldly handed over the photo, saying, "You have thirty seconds left."
"I didn't need you to remind me!"
The scorching early summer sun shone into the prison through the small window.
Wei Renming raised his arm, pinched the photographic paper, and fully exposed it to the sunlight.
One minute, two minutes...
Wang Xinheng stared intently at the photo, and even after the agreed time had passed, he did not utter a sound to stop it.
He also longed to make a name for himself...
