Chapter 98 The Little Guy's New Combat Technique
"Gustav! Who the hell treated the guests to drinks during the day, you old miser? Just say you can't afford it!"
Although the one-eyed adventurer protested loudly, he remained obedient and placed the empty glass on the bar.
Hahahaha!
""
Gustav returned to the bar laughing and poured him a full glass. He was the happiest person there after learning that the strange illness was not a plague.
If a plague really breaks out in the city, his tavern won't be able to stay open for at least half a year, and he'll lose a lot of gold coins.
Fortunately, they were there... Gustav glanced at the embarrassed Lorraine and the bustling tavern lobby, his smile widening.
"Gentlemen! I've bought out all the drinks tonight!"
"Oh oh oh oh oh!—"
'
Lorraine breathed a heavy sigh of relief as she watched the guests' attention shift to asking Gustav for more wine.
He used his knee to lift the half-armor that Gustav had slapped down, and was just about to take the opportunity to sneak upstairs when a fragrant breeze suddenly blocked his view.
"Oh, our Mr. Lorraine is back."
Lily stood in front of Lorraine with her hands behind her back and a smile on her face. She then took two steps closer and looked at him with admiration in her eyes: "It's all over the market now. A black-haired adventurer cut through the entire sewer all by himself. I heard there were more than a dozen ghouls as big as giants."
"It's all Gustav's fault for telling me to rest yesterday; I didn't get to see Lord Lorraine's heroic figure. What a pity!"
She raised her eyebrows when she said "Lord Lorraine," her tone was soft and gentle, and her face was full of mischievous smiles.
"The people of Frostvale must shed a lot of filth every day, after all, it's no easy feat for the sewers to accommodate more than a dozen giants." Lorraine smirked.
How come this story is getting more and more outrageous?
"Exactly! I thought they were just bragging. The sewers in the city aren't that wide."
Lily smiled, her eyes crinkling, but she quickly noticed the tattered marks on Lorraine's clothes. Her teasing tone vanished, and she frowned, saying, "But you do look like you crawled out of some really bad place... You're not hurt, are you?"
"It's nothing," Lorraine said casually. "It's mainly because my companions are so capable; I was just helping out."
"That's good."
Lily tilted her head and looked at Eileen, who was standing behind Lorraine watching the show. She smiled and greeted her, "Ms. Eileen doesn't look too well either. She must have been exhausted last night. There's a pot of mutton soup simmering in the kitchen. I'll heat it up and bring it over to you to warm you up later."
She placed her hands, which had been behind her back, in front of her and bowed respectfully to the two of them, saying, "Thanks to brave adventurers like you, we are able to work and live in peace. I'm so glad you're alright."
"us..."
Lorraine opened her mouth, about to say something, but Lily had already stood up again.
She gently twirled her apricot-yellow skirt, turned her head, and softly smiled at him, "I'm glad you're all alright. I'll get back to work now!"
Lorraine watched her retreating figure, seeing her return to the bar and get back to work, then let out a soft sigh.
Eileen, unusually, didn't say anything sarcastic. She just quietly watched Lily turn around and go back, then headed for the stairs. As she passed Lorraine, she raised an eyebrow at him and said, "I'm going to change my clothes. I'm not used to wearing the temple robes."
"it is good."
Lorraine scanned the tavern lobby, not seeing the short man, and asked Gustav, who was peeking at him from behind the bar, "Where's Piper? Hasn't he returned yet?"
"Pipe! Piper hears someone calling Piper!"
"Hey! Eileen!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the short man flew down the stairs like a cannonball, passing by Eileen, his eyes locking onto Lorraine by the door in mid-air.
"Aww!"
'
He ran while yelling his grievances at the top of his lungs, his voice filled with frustration and indignation: "Lorraine! You didn't even wait for Piper! That's a ghoul! Piper's never even seen a ghoul before!"
Lorraine was so startled that she took a step back.
He didn't want to die young, especially not to be run over by this little dwarf, so suddenly, in a moment of inspiration, he shouted, "Gustav said he's treating us to drinks today!"
"Really? Really!" Piper spun around, jumped onto the bar, and yelled, "A Dwarf's Special! A super-sized one! Now!"
Gustave was still secretly watching the play while wiping the glasses when Piper interrupted him, and he knew he wouldn't be able to see it.
"You don't even know how to save some money for me," he said with a laugh, turning around to pick up the largest wooden bucket cup on the shelf.
Lorraine breathed a sigh of relief and walked over to Piper.
He put down what he was carrying, asked Gustav for a glass of ale, and turned to the short man, asking, "How's that dwarf instructor doing?"
"Hiccup! One "6"
The short man had already downed half a barrel of wine, patted his round belly, and grinned at him: "Instructor Jill praised Piper, saying he's got real talent, and it won't be long before he learns 'Reckless Attack' and becomes a true barbarian!"
He spoke with great enthusiasm, but he didn't mention the word "rage" at all, probably because he still wasn't getting the hang of learning "rage".
"Wow, that's great! Oh... thank you, it'll be fine here."
Lorraine took the ale from Lily and met her smiling, crescent-shaped eyes. He smiled, raised his glass to her, and then took a sip.
"hiss-
—
The cool liquor and rich malty aroma slid down his throat, and he let out a comfortable sigh. He then took Piper's invitation from his pouch and handed it to him.
"Speaking of ghouls, we later ran into Viscount Herman that day. To thank us for our help, he invited us to a banquet, and you were included."
"real!?"
The short man took the invitation, looked carefully at the heading, and realized it really was his name.
"Oh! There's even a banquet! Piper likes this Viscount Herman, and Piper wants a whole roasted lamb! Do you think there will be bean stew? Piper misses Aunt Martha's cooking."
"Yes... Lily, could you get me two slices of bread?"
"Okay, Mr. Lorraine~"
Lorraine smacked his lips. He did miss that pot of fragrant and delicious stewed meat, but unfortunately, he probably wouldn't be going to Shallow Beach Town anytime soon.
"Next time we take on a mission, if we're not far from Shallow Beach Town on the way, let's stop by and visit Haifu," he said.
"Alright! This cup is a toast to the stewed pork with beans!"
Piper raised his glass in high spirits.
Lorraine smiled and raised her glass, clinking it against the one that was only as big as Piper's head.
"A toast to stewed beans and pork—cheers!!!"
