Chapter 94 Tranquility and Noise
Chapter 94 Tranquility and Noise
Lorraine watched her back as she was draped in a blanket, opened her mouth, but didn't dare to ask the question.
Why didn't you cover yourself with the blanket earlier?
Before he could think further, Eileen's figure had already disappeared into the distance, so he quickly grabbed his clothes and followed her.
The temple's corridors were straight and orderly, and they quickly found the bathhouse, which was much smaller than the public ones, but was much cleaner.
A stone wall separated the men's and women's bathhouses, and the faint sound of water from the next room could be heard, which made Lorraine's imagination run wild.
"No peeking."
Eileen's voice came from the side.
"I'd like to see, but this wall is thicker than a bar counter in a tavern," Lorraine said helplessly.
"snort."
He took off his sweat-stained shirt and used several cleaning techniques to remove the remaining mud and bloodstains from his body. Then he scooped up water to rinse off most of the sweat.
As he sank into the clear hot water, the fatigue and soreness that had accumulated deep in his muscles throughout the day were finally released, and he felt incredibly refreshed.
So much had happened that day that Lorraine's nerves had been on edge the whole time, but now she could finally relax completely.
He leaned back against the pool wall, listening to the sound of water coming from next door, his thoughts drifting aimlessly.
What happened to them today was really strange.
Lorraine didn't know much about ghouls, and the idea of ghouls in the sewers seemed pretty normal.
He had heard many stories about sewers in his previous life.
But there were just too many strange things about that ghoul.
First of all, there were those translucent crystals, which even the learned Eileen had never seen before, so they were clearly not normal things.
Secondly, it has absolutely no sense of perception.
The three of them stood in the doorway and talked for a long time. The light from the shield shone on its face, but it didn't react at all.
And there was Viscount Herman.
Although, according to Eileen and Anya, it seemed quite normal for this lord, who possessed extraordinary martial prowess, to go out alone to exterminate monsters, something still felt off to him.
However, judging from his attitude during the subsequent confrontation, he didn't seem to have any hostility, and even seemed to have some goodwill.
Perhaps this is the demeanor of a strong person?
I don't care what's in the sewers, I'll chop them all down by myself with just a sword.
As for his subordinates? They're all just a nuisance.
Tsk tsk... Lorraine suddenly felt a little envious.
"Lorraine?"
Eileen's voice came from the other side of the wall, pulling him out of his thoughts.
"Here I am."
Lorraine responded, dipped her face in the water and rubbed it, then stood up from the pool.
He dried himself off and changed into the plain white robe. The fabric was very soft, but he couldn't tell what it was made of.
He fastened his belt, casually dried his wet hair, and then pushed open the door and walked out of the men's bathhouse.
Eileen was leaning lazily against the wall in the corridor, her wet red hair clinging to her fair neck and draped over her shoulders.
Water droplets dripped down her cheeks and into the collar of her white robe. The hot water made her skin appear fair and rosy, with a warm glow after her bath.
Her white robe was a bit too small; the head steward had clearly underestimated her figure, especially considering the belt cinched around her slender waist...
Lorraine licked her somewhat dry lips.
"You've been washing for a long time."
Eileen wrinkled her nose, her tone carrying a hint of complaint, as if she had been standing there for quite a while.
"I soaked in the water for a while, thinking about something."
Seeing that she didn't seem inclined to move, Lorraine asked in confusion, "Why don't you go back first?"
"My legs are weak."
Eileen sighed softly. How come this guy is so understanding of her one minute and so clueless the next?
"Come carry me on your back," she said.
"Oh... okay."
Lorraine bent down with her back to her, and patted her own back as she did so.
Two soft mounds quickly pressed against his back, Eileen's slender arms encircling his neck, and she rested her face in the crook of his shoulder.
"Um.
""
Eileen nuzzled his shoulder with her head.
Warm, even breathing sounds fell behind his ear, and a pleasant scent of soap wafted from her hair, making Lorraine's heart flutter.
He took a deep breath, lifted her slender legs that were tucked between his waist, and carried her into the room.
"squeak--"
Lorraine pushed open the slightly ajar door with her shoulder.
The dim candlelight and fragrance in the room made him drowsy. He carried Eileen to the bedside, turned his head and glanced at her, only to find that she had already fallen asleep.
With difficulty, he used his feet to open the blanket, then carefully placed Eileen inside, covered her with the blanket again, and wrapped her still-damp hair in a towel.
Eileen hummed comfortably twice, twisted her body under the covers, and her breathing became even again.
Lorraine lay down on another bed.
Although the bed wasn't exactly soft, compared to the tavern's room crammed with goods, this narrow bed, where at least you didn't have to worry about your outstretched feet hitting any weapons or equipment, was more than enough to be grateful for.
He glanced at the contours of Eileen's body beneath the blanket, then closed his eyes, letting himself sink into this rare tranquility.
I slept exceptionally soundly that night.
Lorraine was awakened by a familiar aroma. He sniffed and smelled the aroma of toasted bread, fried eggs, and the temple's distinctive smoky scent.
"Gurgle—"
My stomach started growling uncontrollably.
I groggily opened my eyes and heard a familiar cold snort.
"woke up?"
Eileen had changed into a more fitted white robe and was sitting on a wooden chair by the window reading a book, holding a cup of hot tea in her hand.
Her face had regained its usual rosy glow, and she looked much more energetic. At this moment, she was scrutinizing him with eyes that seemed to be examining a criminal.
They're back...they're all back...
"That familiar expression is still the most pleasing to the eye," Lorraine thought.
"How did you sleep last night?" she asked.
"It's alright...it's quite comfortable."
Lorraine rubbed her eyes, turned over and sat up in bed, walking towards the plate of fragrant breakfast on the table.
"good?"
Eileen slammed her teacup down with a "bang," her eyebrows shot up, and she said angrily, "Do you know you've been snoring all night? All night! I thought that ghoul was sleeping next to me!"
Lorraine, who was munching on a piece of bread, paused upon hearing this, then said, "What? You mean? You're kidding me!"
"That's because you used to sleep with Piper." Eileen rolled her eyes. "That guy snores louder than you. The two of you together could have blown the roof off. You deserve to sleep with him."
Lorraine hissed as if she had a toothache. She secretly complained about the short guy's snoring, but it turned out she wasn't much better herself.
"Alright...you got up so early, did you go see Anya?"
He took a big bite out of the fried egg in his mouth.
"I just got back from seeing her. Her fever has gone down. Ryan is with her now, and she should be fine after another day or two of rest."
Eileen paused, then her tone became much more serious: "She asked me to tell you—thank you."
"That's too kind of you. It's good that way. We should head back to the tavern. That Piper guy has been alone all night; who knows what kind of mess he's made of it."
Lorraine picked up another piece of bread, ate it while taking off the white robe, and grabbed the clean shirt the priest had given her and put it on.
No sooner had the words left his mouth than hurried footsteps echoed down the corridor, and a voice came from outside: "Guests, the steward has sent me to announce that Viscount Hermann's butler has arrived and is waiting in the reception room. He says he's here to deliver the reward for the mission, as well as an invitation to a banquet."
