Chapter 5 Reversal
"Come on! You bunch of green maggots, Grandpa's right here!" (in goblin language)
Lorraine darted out of the caravan. If Piper were surrounded by those goblins, he would be finished. He had to lure them away first and then look for an opportunity.
I never imagined that being fluent in swear words would have this kind of use...
The eight goblins who wanted to flank Piper looked like they were spitting fire when they heard this. Even the halflings on their faces ignored everything and rushed towards Lorraine.
"You bunch of idiots, don't fall for his tricks!"
The goblin, seeing his minions acting as if they had lost their minds (if they did), couldn't help but curse them out in frustration.
Even Karl, the merchant who was fighting desperately in the camp, looked surprised when he saw this.
Mocking? Is he a professional? We're saved!
"This is really troublesome..."
Lorraine dodged a thrown wooden club, twisted her waist, stepped forward, and plunged her sword into the goblin's chest. Then, she rolled to the side in a disheveled manner, dodging other attacks while pulling out her sword.
Seven remain...
As he stood up, he grabbed a handful of sand and threw it at the goblins. Then, with a powerful push of his legs, his shoulder slammed straight into the nearest goblin, the immense difference in strength causing its sternum to cave in instantly.
There are six left.
Taking advantage of the chaos, he acted again, swinging with all his might.
The rusty longsword swept through the dust and struck a green-skinned beast squarely in the head. The sword tip let out a mournful cry of despair before shattering cleanly into countless pieces of metal, which shot out in all directions.
Lorraine was nearly hit by the flying debris, but thankfully it was just a false alarm.
Five.
He stared at the broken sword in his hand, now only half intact, and felt as if he were about to cry.
Once I have the money, the first thing I must do is buy a good sword...
This won't do. No matter how weak the goblins are, he can't handle them without weapons. Lorraine frowned and quickly glanced at his surroundings.
Piper was already locked in combat with the goblins, and the survivors seemed to be holding back the goblins surrounding the camp, preventing them from returning to support their leader.
There is still time.
He turned around and saw that the fierce attack had made their formation extremely loose. Lorraine kicked the one running in the lead over the ground, and then braced himself and darted into the woods.
Three companions died before their eyes in the blink of an eye, and the anger in the eyes of the remaining goblins subsided somewhat.
The cowardice hidden in their genes was immediately revealed. Without the leader's command, none of them were willing to come forward to their deaths, so they simply started cawing and arguing, giving Lorraine plenty of time to maneuver.
He staggered through the woods.
The dense canopy of trees almost completely blocked out the moonlight, so he could only run forward by instinct, and almost tripped over the stones under his feet several times.
Even though he entered the woods first, he was almost caught up by those green-skinned bastards.
Thanks to their small stature and natural dark vision, goblins thrive here.
No one would dare to venture into the forest at night in the presence of a monster with darkvision, as it would be tantamount to suicide.
Lorraine was certainly not that kind of fool, so...
He paused, and flames burst forth from his hands, illuminating the pupils of the goblins chasing behind him.
"This is far enough... you scum, try this!"
......
Among all human species, halflings are a rather special one.
Their short stature gives them a natural affinity, and they are happy to integrate into the societies of various human species.
They are naturally hardworking, capable, and willing to share, and are extremely loyal to their partners.
If you don't mind that they sometimes share your treasures, then they are clearly the companions every adventurer dreams of.
This is also why Piper didn't ask why he had to go himself; he acknowledged Lorraine as his partner, and his partner needed him.
That's enough.
"You piece of trash, you piece of trash, you piece of trash, take this hammer blow!!!"
Piper charged wildly toward the big green scumbag, the muscles in his arm gripping the long-handled warhammer bulging, sweat dripping from his pores and dispersing into puffs of white mist in the cold night, making him look like some kind of monster.
The warhammer was raised high and brought down with great force due to inertia!
The big man neither dodged nor evaded; he simply drew his longsword and blocked in front of him, the hammer striking the sword with a dull thud.
With a flick of his long arm, he deflected the hammer to the side, the force of which, enough to shatter rocks, was released onto the ground.
The hammerhead smashed a deep crater in the ground, and Piper almost fell to the ground.
"That's it?" The goblin chuckled lowly. "A dwarven mongrel?"
Upon hearing this, Piper's face turned bright red. He suddenly pulled out his hammer and swung it in another sweeping motion.
The goblin took a half step back, dodging the hammerhead, and thrust his longsword out like a venomous snake, aiming straight for Piper's throat.
Piper hurriedly turned to the side, the tip of the sword grazing his neck and leaving a shallow bloodstain on his tough skin.
"Oh shit!"
He uttered a word in Dwarven language, and swung the hammer in a wide arc to protect himself.
That big guy's sword was fucking heavy. He swung it like he was out of his mind, and every swing made his palms go numb.
He gradually found himself struggling to defend himself, and was struck by the sword several times in a row, his leather jacket being cut and hanging like vines.
"Whoosh—whoosh—"
Piper's steps grew heavier and heavier, and he breathed heavily, feeling the monstrous writhing before him as if it were about to collapse.
"Haha! This idiot can't hold on any longer!"
He excitedly launched another attack, but his left foot tripped over his right, and he rolled twice on the ground before stopping.
Piper struggled to his feet, and in his daze, he seemed to see a person crouching by a tree behind the swaying bastard, the person and the tree next to them both swaying.
Oh, it was me swaying...
Reason briefly triumphed over rage, and Piper regained his senses. He gasped for breath, then mustered the strength to roar again:
"Is that all you're capable of? You avoid your father's hammer like it's the plague. Did your mother cut your brain along with the umbilical cord when she gave birth to you?!"
Even Lorraine, who was hiding behind the tree, almost lost her composure. She could only cover her mouth tightly with one hand and twist her thigh hard with the other, trying to distract herself.
The goblin roared, his hands trembling slightly as he raised his longsword. The blade instantly became a blur, slicing into Piper's shoulder.
"ah!--"
Piper roared in pain, but his hands gripped the sword tightly.
His eyes widened in anger, and he slowly grinned, revealing a somewhat crazed smile.
The goblin sensed something was wrong. He kicked the halfling off his sword and quickly turned around.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
Lorraine's days of breaking into people's homes at night had not been in vain. While the two were dealing with each other, he had already quietly circled behind the goblin, making almost no sound.
They were now extremely close, so close that Lorraine could smell the goblin's blood.
He stretched out his right hand, and instantly, blazing flames burst from his fingertips.
Lorraine's Burning Hand
The burning hand pressed against the goblin's chest in his terrified gaze. A stream of scorching air gushed from between his fingers, piercing through his leather armor, burning into his flesh, and rushing toward his beating heart.
The goblin's body suddenly froze.
He let out a short, painful groan, and then fell forward.
Lorraine quickly withdrew her hand and rolled awkwardly to the side, barely avoiding the massive body.
"boom--"
The goblin crashed to the ground, raising a cloud of dust, twitched twice, and then lay still.
Lorraine struggled to her feet, and with another thought, she used her Burning Hand to grab its head.
Even though the continuous use of spells made his head throb as if it were about to split open, he still forced himself to keep the Burning Hand running until he could smell the burning odor.

Lorraine staggered back two steps and slumped against a pine tree.
He exchanged a glance with Piper, who was already lying on the ground not far away, and gave him a bright smile.
