The adventurer at the bottom is fantasizing again.

Chapter 39: Vomit from the First Kill of the Dwarf

Lorraine kicked the short guy in the butt, sending him flying to the side.

"Ouch!"

Piper rolled over and crashed into a tree next to him.

Lorraine finally breathed a sigh of relief.

If that shorty were to actually hit him with a hammer, tsk tsk, he couldn't even imagine the scene.

I easily dodged the bouncing slime monster again. The thing's attack speed wasn't slow, but its movements were just too clumsy.

"Get some branches, I'll press it to the ground."

Piper rubbed his head and stood up, saying with a wronged expression, "Oh..."

Lorraine ignored the idiot, ran a few steps away from the slime monster, then rummaged through his bag and pulled out a piece of rough burlap, which he spread out and held between his hands.

"Come on, you disgusting thing!"

He made a sarcastic remark to the slime monster.

Of course, the common language is used.

The slime monster wriggled and jumped up again, only to be firmly caught by the burlap and pressed to the ground.

"Quickly! Stick the branches in!" Lorraine shouted anxiously.

The slime from this stuff can corrode linen, and he couldn't hold it down for long. Besides, the feel of it was so disgusting that he didn't even want to describe the sensation.

"Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes!"

Piper held up a few dry branches that had fallen from the tree, snapped them in half with a "snap," and then haphazardly stuck them into the burlap.

However, the mud was frozen solid in winter, and he struggled a lot to barely manage to insert the needle.

"Strike it hard with the hammer."

"OK."

After a flurry of activity, the slime monster was finally pinned to the ground. The two then covered it with some dry branches and leaves, piling them into a pyramid shape.

With a thought, flames surged from his palm.

Lorraine threw the branch that the Burning Hand had set ablaze onto the flames, which quickly spread, emitting black smoke and a pungent stench.

[First Enemy Kill - Rotten Moss Monster]

[Reward: 50 Exploration Experience Points]

Current balance: 52 exploration experience points

A rotten moss monster?

So that's what it's called. It only gave me 50 exploration experience points. This thing is actually on the same level as a goblin.

Lorraine picked up a twig from the ground, wiped off some of the slime from the blade, then cut off some burlap and carefully wiped it before putting it back in its sheath.

"Let's keep going. The sun is about to set, we need to find a flat place to camp," he said.

As darkness fell, the already poor lighting in the woods became even more dim and gloomy.

The campsite was chosen under a large tree, and the surrounding ground was relatively flat with few shrubs around.

Lorraine took the newly bought tent roll off his backpack, unbuckled the strap, and threw it on the ground.

The tent popped open on its own in mid-air, the frame clicked a few times, and then stood firmly on the ground.

"That's so fast!" Piper exclaimed in amazement, circling the tent and poking the canvas. "Why didn't we buy one last time?"

"Don't say anything more." Lorraine placed her backpack at the tent entrance and then hammered the tent pegs into the ground.

The short guy chuckled and ran to gather firewood.

A campfire was lit.

Piper took the snake he had killed during the day from Lorraine's backpack, skillfully skinned it, and stuffed it into a small bag.

The snake meat was cut into two pieces, then scored with a knife, sprinkled with salt, and roasted over a fire.

Lorraine then took out some compressed biscuits she had bought at the grocery store, spread some apricot jam on them, and handed them to Piper.

The compressed biscuits were so dry that even with jam, they were barely edible and needed to be eaten with water to swallow.

The two could only stretch their necks and gnaw on biscuits while watching the roasting snake over the fire with longing.

"How much longer do we need to bake it? It'll get too tough if we don't eat it soon."

Lorraine said vaguely.

When it comes to cooking, Piper becomes quite professional.

Although his mouth was practically watering, he firmly shook his head and refused, saying, "No, undercooked snake meat is very easy to contract diseases."

"Okay."

The firewood crackled and popped as the two men stared intently at the roasting snake, as if they could cook it with their eyes.

After a while, Lorraine finally received the little man's decree.

"Alright, you can eat now."

Piper removed the two pieces of snake meat from the fire. The snake meat was roasted until it was golden brown, with slightly blackened edges, and sizzling with oil.

Lorraine took one section, and it was so hot that she had to quickly switch it from hand to hand to barely hold it.

"Whoosh—"

He blew on it a few times and took a bite without waiting.

"Click."

The flames licked the outermost layer of snake meat until it was charred and crispy, while the meat inside remained white and tender. The meat juice mixed with the saltiness of the salt exploded in his mouth, making him hiss from the heat, but he couldn't bear to let go.

"Hmm... Niche Shou, eh? That's good."

Lorraine praised it.

Piper was already so engrossed in eating that he didn't have time to talk. He held the piece of snake meat, gnawing on it until his face was covered in oil, his cheeks bulging, and he occasionally let out a satisfied hum.

"belch--"

Lorraine let out a burp, leaned comfortably against the tree trunk, and began shaving the snake's teeth with its ribs.

"I'll keep watch for the first half of the night, you should get some rest."

Staying up late has become an instinct ingrained in his soul, and even in this world, he still habitually stays up late.

"it is good."

After finishing its food, the little creature crawled into the tent, and soon after, you could hear its snoring.

Lorraine leaned against the tree trunk for a while, lost in thought, before realizing that the campfire's flames had dimmed.

He got up and added some firewood. Just as he was about to find a place to sit for a while, he suddenly caught a glimpse of something glowing in the darkness in the distance.

He stopped what he was doing, squinted and looked carefully to make sure he wasn't seeing things, then went into the tent and gently patted Piper, who was fast asleep.

Lorraine didn't know if it was the silverleaf grass the old dwarf had mentioned, or some kind of monster that, like an anglerfish, liked to use light to attract prey. Waking up Piper was the safest option.

"Something's up," he said softly.

Piper was startled awake by the noise, and groggily opened his eyes, asking, "What's wrong?"

Lorraine pointed to the bright light in the distance, and the two of them immediately took out their weapons and cautiously approached it while crouching low.

As he got closer, he realized that the light was coming from a crack in the ground.

Those were several plants with feathery leaves, the edges of which had a slight silvery-white tinge.

"This is silverleaf grass."

Lorraine reached out and gently touched the leaf.

He had memorized the picture on the old dwarf's scroll perfectly; the silverleaf grass looked exactly like the ones in front of him.

"Found them!? There are a few, let Piper take a look!" The short guy squeezed in.

"Six plants, no, seven plants. There's also a smaller one underneath."

Lorraine got up, went into the tent, took out a herb-gathering knife, and pulled a piece of firewood from the campfire. By the firelight, she carefully removed the leaves without damaging the roots.

After taking them all, he counted the number of leaves in the oilcloth bag.

There are a total of 57 pieces. If we calculate that each piece is worth 2 silver...

"5 gold and 14 silver medals, this trip was at least worthwhile."
