Chapter 83: Is Slytherin's legitimacy in Gryffindor?
Chapter 83: Is Slytherin's legitimacy in Gryffindor?
In a deserted corner of the castle, Harry and his two companions stopped, panting heavily.
Ron, panting and terrified, his brow furrowed, said, "Harry, you're a Parseltongue! Why didn't you tell us?"
"What am I?" Harry looked at him blankly.
Hermione explained from the side, "You can talk to snakes!"
"I know,"
Harry didn't find this strange at all. After all, in his opinion, there were plenty of amazing things in the magical world. Talking to snakes was nothing, and there should be other animals that could talk to each other too.
"Once at the zoo, I let a python out to scare my cousin Dudley."
Harry said nonchalantly, even a little excited at the thought.
"Just once, so what? There are plenty of people here who could do that."
"No, they can't. This isn't just any talent, Harry."
Hermione looked at Harry with concern.
"This is terrible."
"What's so bad?" Harry frowned.
Looking at his best friends and thinking about how his classmates had behaved in the Great Hall, Harry's thick skin finally caught on and realized something was wrong.
Only then did he realize that something was beyond his comprehension. "If I hadn't told the snake not to attack Justin—"
"So you wanted the snake to stop!" Ron suddenly realized.
"You were there too, you heard that?"
Ron quickly explained, "I heard you speaking Parsleyan! The language of snakes!"
"Is it another language?" Harry asked, somewhat bewildered.
Hermione and Ron nodded quickly.
"But I didn't realize—how could I not know I was speaking another language?"
Harry looked at Hermione, hoping his clever friend could help him explain.
After all, in Muggle television and comics, talking to animals is just a very common superpower, similar to being able to fly or become invisible.
"I don't know, Harry. But you sound like you're encouraging that snake."
Hermione sighed. "Harry, listen to me—there's a reason why Slytherin uses the snake as a symbol."
"Salazar Slytherin is a Parseltongue! He can talk to snakes too."
Ron explained to the savior who had always stayed in the Muggle world, "That's exactly why the whole school now thinks you're his great-great-great-grandson or something."
This is not a good thing. During Voldemort's time, almost all the students in Slytherin House were Death Eaters, and now, the savior who defeated Voldemort is actually the rightful heir of Slytherin?
Even Voldemort doesn't speak Parseltongue!
Voldemort was indeed like that, but he never showed it to anyone else.
"But I'm not!" Harry shouted, then his voice faltered, and he said hesitantly, "It can't be."
Harry himself had some doubts; after all, a thousand years had passed, and no one could say for sure that they might actually have Slytherin blood in them.
"But based on the current situation, you are very likely to be—"
Hermione's explanation only confused Harry more.
The sound of footsteps approached just in time, and the three of them quickly shut up.
When Xavier arrived, he immediately noticed the tense atmosphere between them.
Behind him followed Ernie, and Justin, a Hufflepuff boy, hunched over with a look of shame on his face.
Since the Chamber of Secrets incident didn't happen, Harry isn't actually that annoying now. Justin is willing to apologize and believe Harry.
There is no situation in the original book where Justin stops talking to Harry.
Ernie nudged Justin on the shoulder.
"Potter, no, Harry,"
Justin walked up to Harry, took a deep breath, and said, "I'm here to apologize. Just now—I was terrified. When that snake swam towards me."
His knuckles turned white from clenching his fists. "You did save me. I shouldn't have looked at you like that and said those things."
Xavier had already explained it to him, and Justin himself had thought about it and realized that the situation at the time really had nothing to do with Harry.
Justin paused, a look of guilt on his face. "When I first saw Parsley, my first instinct was—but the dark wizard wouldn't let the snakes stop. So—thank you."
Harry looked at him, remained silent for a moment, then walked over and extended his hand to him with a smile.
Two second-grade children looked directly at each other and shook hands, and that was it—they made up.
Xavier watched this scene with a touch of emotion, thinking, "This is the 'savior' after all." He then stepped forward and introduced Justin and Ernie to Harry and the others.
Harry also introduced Ron and Hermione to them, and the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff groups officially became acquainted.
After exchanging pleasantries, Harry finally couldn't help but ask the question he had been holding back: Was there any way to prove his identity? He really didn't want to have anything to do with Slytherin.
"Actually, instead of pointlessly arguing about whether you are a descendant of Slytherin..."
Xavier offered a very simple solution: "Why not just check your family lineage? That would easily find out if you're related to Salazar Slytherin."
Everyone looked at him.
Genealogy.
Xavier uttered a word, and everyone suddenly understood.
Aristocratic genealogies are incredibly useful, and coincidentally, the Potter family and Salazar's family are considered noble families among wizards, and their lineage is ancient and unbroken.
With a complete genealogical record, it doesn't take much time to find out if two lines intersect.
"Is it that simple?" Harry asked.
"It's that simple."
Over the next few days, the two groups met up.
Those who want to go to the library should go to the library, those who want to write letters home should write letters home, and those who want to find professors should find professors.
Hannah got a copy of the Pureblood Register from her great-aunt. Susan's mother, an employee of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, helped find the Potter family's information, and Ron also asked his father to send over some documents.
Xavier and the rest of the team were responsible for arranging the data by year.
Although Xavier himself admitted after finishing the process that he didn't really understand those marriage contracts and such.
Moreover, while organizing these materials, he had a profound realization: the entertainment industry is truly chaotic.
In just a few days, they gathered enough evidence to present the answer to everyone.
There is no marriage alliance between the Potter and Gaunt families. Harry Potter is not a descendant of Salazar Slytherin.
Therefore, Harry and Slytherin are not related.
Harry is at most a new Parseltongue.
Although Xavier knew that wasn't the case, but rather Voldemort's doing—it wasn't a talent at all, but rather that Voldemort, in his attempt to kill Harry, left a portion of his power along with a small part of his soul in that scar.
The news began to spread from the Gryffindor common room.
Without the Chamber of Secrets incident interfering and no students being petrified, Harry's situation was much better than in the other timeline.
However, some Gryffindor students, led by the Weasley twins, began to mock Slytherin, because it was uncertain whether Harry, the Parseltongue, was the heir to Slytherin, but the fact was that Harry was a student of Gryffindor.
Even the Slytherin students were somewhat dejected.
Because Parsleyans practically represent the orthodoxy of Slytherin, and the only remaining Parsleyan in the entire school wears a red scarf with a gold lion around his neck, not to mention that Gryffindor is their mortal enemy.
