Chapter 38 The Leaky Cauldron and Hannah Abbott

When Beth and the other person in the car saw Xavier fall asleep in the back seat, they stopped talking, and Darren drove the car more steadily.

Until they got home.

"Ethan, Ethan, wake up, we're home."

Beth gently nudged Xavier, while Darren, who was standing nearby, had already carried all the luggage.

"Um...sorry, Mom, I'm probably just too tired from the train ride—"

Xavier felt a little apologetic and quickly got up to help carry the luggage.

Upon arriving in the living room, Beth brought out the dinner she had prepared long ago, and Xavier also took out the magical snacks he had bought on the Hogwarts Express. After a long time, the family finally sat down together to enjoy dinner.

That night, Xavier returned to his small stairwell and slept the most peaceful night he had ever had in a long time.

Early the next morning—

Darren and Beth gave Xavier another hug before saying goodbye and heading off to work early.

Xavier first fed the two owls, then sat on the sofa and read the newspaper.

After such a long time, he felt like he was becoming increasingly disconnected from the Muggle world.

First, the scandal involving the British royal family:

Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and his wife Sarah Ferguson have announced their separation.

Princess Anne's marriage to Mark Phillips has officially ended;

Prince Charles and Princess Diana also began living separately...

"Chew, chew, chew~ This industry is really messy. Chew, chew, chew~"

Xavier lay on the sofa, happily munching on owl jerky.

By the way, this jerky isn't made from rat meat.

Furthermore, perhaps due to influences from the East, the British economy experienced a certain degree of recession in 1991.

Of course, the official term is: economic transformation.

However, even now, the pound is still depreciating uncontrollably.

When Xavier mentions the British pound, he thinks of Galleons, and then of the Philosopher's Stone.

"Turning lead into gold!"

If Nicolas Flamel wanted to, he could unleash an unprecedented financial storm in the wizarding world or even the Muggle world at any time.

In some ways, Nick LeMae was far more terrifying than Voldemort, Dumbledore, and even the now virtually extinct Grindelwald.

If he's willing.

Xavier received information over a long period of time to ensure he was not out of touch with modern society.

Then I started today's workout, but the results weren't good.

Given his current physical condition, even prolonged training wouldn't provide much of a training effect; it would be more like a warm-up.

It's nowhere near as fast as releasing magic, which consumes physical and mental energy.

Generally speaking, after Xavier casts dozens of spells, his body will become somewhat exhausted and his mind will become sleepy.

If you then use the remaining magic to nourish your body, your physical attributes will grow faster and the effect will be better.

Now, without the ability to cast spells, even consuming magical energy to stimulate the body has its limits; otherwise, the body will experience slight stinging.

Xavier didn't care at first.

"Pain is normal; pain means you're building muscle!" he tried to comfort himself.

But Xavier's magical creature instincts told him that this was bad for his future.

This resulted in Xavier feeling that he still had relatively sufficient physical and mental strength in order to allow his body time to heal itself.

Simply put, it means there's no outlet for one's energy.

Xavier felt like this thing was something he couldn't clear out from his own game's daily tasks.

It doesn't have much of an impact, but it's a bit annoying.

——The Break the Cauldron Bar——

Xavier still came here, bringing with him some of the money he had saved up.

The Leaky Cauldron offers accommodation, and although the price might be a bit high for him, he plans to rent a room there for a few days.

Xavier walked to the bar, where the bar owner, Tom, saw him and approached with a smile, "Little wizard, what would you like?"

"Thank you, boss, but no need. I wanted to ask about something..."

"Hi, Ethan, how are you?"

A head popped out from behind the counter; it was a girl with rosy cheeks and two golden braids.

"Hannah? What are you doing here?"

Xavier was genuinely surprised. Hannah Abbott, as a junior wizard from a wizarding family, was not usually expected to appear here like a Muggle wizard.

"It's because my name is Tom Abbott."

Old Tom noticed Xavier's surprise and continued, then looked at Hannah: "Since you're his friend, you two should have a good chat."

After Tom Abbott finished speaking, he wiped his hands and turned to greet the other guests, leaving the two young wizards looking at each other in bewilderment.

(In the original book, Hannah Abbott eventually marries Neville and becomes the owner of the Leaky Cauldron.)

"Tom Abbott... is that you?" Xavier asked.

"It's my uncle," Hannah said, emerging from behind the counter with a glass of butterbeer in her hand.

"My mother is a Muggle, and my father is a wizard. I occasionally come to help out at my uncle's place, and also to freeload—oh, no, I mean to visit my uncle."

As she spoke, she laughed first.

Xavier nodded, then remembered that Hannah was indeed of mixed race; he had heard her mention it briefly on the train.

"And you? What are you doing at the Leaky Cauldron?" Hannah tilted her head to look at him, her golden braids swaying with the movement.

"I'd like to rent a room, but I don't usually stay there long," Xavier said truthfully.

"Rent a room?" Hannah paused for a moment, then realized what she meant.

"Oh—you're Muggle-born, so you can't just use magic at home, right?"

Xavier nodded.

Hannah's eyes darted around, and she gave a knowing look.

"My dad said that levitating is particularly unfriendly to Muggle-born wizards. If you cast a levitation charm at home, the Ministry of Magic will know right away, without even giving you a chance to explain, and a warning letter will be sent over."

"That's roughly the idea," Xavier sighed.

"So I'm looking for a place, preferably a place where adult wizards gather, so that magical fluctuations won't be attributed to me alone."

"Then you've come to the right place!" Hannah clapped her hands.

"Wizards come and go from the Leaky Cauldron every day. If you cast a few minor spells here, the Ministry of Magic won't be able to figure out who did it. Besides, my uncle is a very nice person and won't ask any questions."

As she spoke, she turned and called out towards the bar, "Uncle! My classmate wants to rent a room, can you give me a discount?"

Tom Abbott peeked out from behind the bar, glanced at Xavier, then at Hannah, and shook his head helplessly.

"Alright, alright, for my niece's sake, two silver sikes a day."

Xavier quickly did the math in his head—two silver scissors were roughly ten pence.

No, the exchange rate between wizard currency and Muggle currency has always been confusing, but overall it's not expensive.

"Thank you, Mr. Tom," Xavier said politely.

"Don't mention it." Old Tom waved his hand. "By the way, the room is the third one on the left on the second floor. The key is here."

He took a brass key off the wall and handed it to Xavier.

Xavier took the key and was about to go upstairs to check the room when Hannah grabbed his sleeve.

"Wait a minute, you finally have a holiday, don't you want to go for a stroll in Diagon Alley?"

Xavier thought for a moment, the room wasn't going anywhere, he could check it later.

"Okay, let's go take a look."

The two entered the small courtyard through the back door of the Leaky Cauldron, and Xavier took out his wand and skillfully knocked on the entrance to Diagon Alley.

The brick wall flipped and crumbled, revealing the ancient cobblestone street behind it.
