Hogwarts: A little lion in the skin of the Eagle School
Chapter 17 Luna's Notes
It was time for Potions class to end.
Professor Snape produced a dozen or so glass jars from somewhere and placed them on the podium. The jars were filled with fresh fish eyes, which looked like unprocessed pufferfish eyes.
"Merrick, come back here at 7 p.m. tonight. Pick out the spoiled ones from the eyes of these pufferfish and clean them thoroughly."
After saying that, he left without looking back.
Ryan walked over to John, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "That's just how Professor Snape is. He always grabs a few people who failed Potions class to punish and make them do some disgusting dirty work."
"Let's go back for dinner first, and I'll help you clean up tonight."
Ryan was a little worried that John might be frightened by today's lesson, causing him to feel overwhelmed by pressure and become self-conscious or give up on himself, after all, John was just a Muggle-born wizard.
He didn't really understand why Professor Snape was targeting John.
Because when John was daydreaming in class, Professor Snape didn't even notice. John's mere glance at the table in confusion was enough to trigger Professor Snape's unwarranted attack.
Moreover, even if John's potion-making failed, at least his level of completion was better than that of most of them.
However, he only received a score of 0.
Ethan and Titus also came over to comfort John. For these freshmen, Professor Snape's oppressive presence was too strong, and they couldn't think of any way to help John.
John slowly came to his senses after being comforted by the others, and laughed out loud: "What are you talking about? I'm not that fragile, that I would lose my fighting spirit because of a few criticisms."
"Besides, what the professor said makes sense; I was just too arrogant at the beginning."
John shook his head, grateful for their support, but decided he would accept his punishment himself that night and there was no need to bring them along.
After saying that, he ignored their reaction and pulled them toward the Great Hall of the People.
Although it wasn't mealtime yet, he wanted to go there first to wait and do his homework, and then finish eating before going straight to complete the 'punishment' arranged by Professor Snape.
Seeing that John was still in good spirits, the group stopped talking and started joking with each other.
Titus was the one who threw in the porcupine quills without turning off the fire, almost causing an explosion. If Professor Snape hadn't noticed in time and stabilized his cauldron with a wave of his wand, it probably would have really exploded.
Ethan laughed and said that he didn't use a scale to measure the amount of materials at all, he just grabbed a handful and threw them in, and the result was actually quite good.
Ryan went even further, throwing in pufferfish eyes and dried nettles together, claiming that this would prevent him from making a mistake. In the end, he even scored 30 points, higher than Titus' 20 points.
Once they arrived at the auditorium, the group sat together and discussed today's potions class assignment.
It's basically about writing a paper on scabies medicine, from its uses and manufacturing process to the collection and preservation of raw materials.
To put it simply, it's about reviewing. You can find half of the content in the textbook, and for the other half, you have to think about it yourself or go to the library to look up information.
Whether it's right or wrong doesn't matter; just write down your own understanding. Whether it's right or wrong, Professor Snape will judge for himself.
Good evening, John.
Just as John was doing his homework, Luna arrived at the auditorium, looking like she had just finished class.
Good evening, Sister Luna.
John and the others greeted them.
Are you doing your Potions class homework? Do you need my notes?
Luna saw that the group was engrossed in writing something while holding a book called "Potions and Magical Elixirs," so she asked them a question.
"Notes? Are they your senior's notes from her first year? I need them, I need them!"
Upon hearing that he could read his senior's notes, Titus immediately nodded and said yes.
Luna didn't hide anything and took out her textbook directly.
The first and second graders use the same Potions textbook, so it's very convenient to compare them.
Titus thanked her eagerly, then took Luna's textbook and began to read.
"..."
But after only a couple of glances, Titus suddenly fell silent again.
"Hiss, why add sun-distilled butterfly wing ash... and what does sun-distillation even mean?"
"?"
John and the others had originally wanted to go over and take a look at Luna's notes, but they were stunned when they heard Titus's words.
Are we still talking about scabies medicine?
Luna did not deny Titus's words, and said with a smile, "When butterfly wing ash is exposed to sunlight for a long time and then added to a potion, it can have an effect of dispelling gloom from the mind."
Although he couldn't understand it, John was deeply shocked.
"Then... why use moonflower roots instead of porcupine quills, and then stir counter-clockwise?"
Titus continued to ask, still puzzled.
"Because the energy of counterclockwise rotation can untangle the knots of resentment beneath the skin of the flower root, while stirring clockwise will make the potion dream of being boiled."
Luna said with a calm smile, as if she were stating some kind of truth.
"..."
The group fell silent. Was this a unique understanding among older students?
So stirring clockwise makes the potion dream of being boiled...
"Oh...I see. Thank you for your notes, Luna-senpai. I've learned a lot..."
Upon hearing this, Titus silently closed Luna's textbook and handed it back to her with both hands.
You should do your own homework...
If he actually includes Luna's notes in his paper, Professor Snape might target him in the next class.
"You're welcome, John. Do you need it?"
Luna seemed happier than usual, responding with a smile, and then looked at John.
"Uh... I, I just..." John heard Luna's incredible notes and was thinking of refusing, but then he saw Luna's big eyes and her pure, innocent gaze.
"Thank you, senior. I will study hard..."
In the end, John accepted Luna's textbook; after all, she meant well, and it wouldn't be right to refuse.
Perhaps Luna has some special and ingenious ideas hidden inside; we can just take the essence and discard the dross.
With that thought in mind, John opened Luna's textbook and began to study.
John was increasingly confused, wondering if scabies medicine could have so many strange ingredients added to it...
"Excuse me, Sister Luna, have you actually tried any of these things?"
"Of course, but Professor Snape always interrupts me halfway through."
"..."
There's a reason why someone interrupts you.
Who would have thought that the soil trampled by the Easter Bunny could actually be used as material, and that it would actually react when thrown in?
Is it that my imagination is too limited, or that Sister Luna's imagination is too strong?
Just as John was engrossed in his book, trying to understand Luna's imagination, a commotion suddenly broke out at the long table in Gryffindor.
"Someone saw him! Sirius Black!"
