The Mad Warriors

Chapter 10 A Show of Force

For Wang Xuan, tonight's dinner was merely a meal to introduce him to Liang Zhixia's parents.

But who could have imagined it would end up like this, so awkwardly? In the end, Wang Xuan didn't have much time to eat with his in-laws, because his uncle and aunt had already asked all the questions they needed to. If Liang Qiyun and Xia Wenyin were to keep asking questions, it wouldn't be very meaningful and would only make Wang Xuan feel disgusted.

However, Wang Xuan could sense that his in-laws were quite satisfied with him. At least, they weren't pressuring him relentlessly, leaving him no way out or saving face.

After dinner, downstairs at the hotel, Xia Wenyin warmly took Wang Xuan's hand: "Xiao Wang, come visit us at home these next few days when you have time." As the saying goes, a mother-in-law's love for her son-in-law grows stronger with each passing year. Perhaps because he had drunk a little, the father-in-law, Liang Qiyun, slightly tipsy, mumbled, "I have a son-in-law," before getting into a taxi with a smile.

Xia Wenyin glanced at the time with a strange smile: "Zhixia, Xiao Wang just got back to the country. Why don't you two find somewhere else to talk? It's okay if you come back a little later. The hospital has given you a week off because of what happened today, so you can take a good rest." After saying that, Xia Wenyin got into a taxi and left.

Strangely, after Wang Xuan and Liang Zhixia were left alone, the two stood awkwardly by the roadside, seemingly at a loss for what to do.

"Let's take a walk, just like we did in Cuba," Wang Xuan suggested.

Liang Zhixia moved slowly and timidly to Wang Xuan's side, seemingly hesitant to speak. The scene from earlier that day still lingered in her mind; Wang Xuan had killed people in front of her more than once or twice.

Wang Xuan noticed that Liang Zhixia seemed hesitant, so he reached out and patted her head. "I returned for you. My old life is over. You were the one who gave me hope. No matter what you become, you will always be the most beautiful in my heart."

Bathed in the bright moonlight, Liang Zhixia slowly raised her head. The sight of half her face disfigured truly pained Wang Xuan. Liang Zhixia looked at Wang Xuan with teary eyes: "Even now, I still think I'm dreaming."

As she spoke, Liang Zhixia slowly embraced Wang Xuan. Wang Xuan had waited far too long for this embrace; at this moment, he seemed to finally understand why ancient emperors chose beauty over power.

Liang Zhixia, nestled in his arms, seemed to burst into tears, looking up at Wang Xuan with teary eyes: "I thought you didn't want me anymore." Their relationship was too deep; they should have been together all along, but Wang Xuan, considering his profession and circumstances, hadn't directly expressed it. It could be said that now they had finally crossed the final line.

Suddenly, Liang Zhixia broke free from Wang Xuan's grasp on her half-disfigured face: "But I'm so ugly." Yes, she was so ugly that anyone would think that Liang Zhixia was not worthy of Wang Xuan.

Wang Xuan touched Liang Zhixia's disfigured half of her face: "Whether now or in the future, I will never despise you. With today's advanced technology, it will definitely be cured. Don't worry, even if it can't be cured, I still won't despise you. Let's go, let's enjoy a peaceful life!" Wang Xuan said this for a reason.

Once, Wang Xuan and Liang Zhixia were secretly dating at night, and they were almost about to kiss when a grenade exploded less than a hundred meters away. Many times, just as they were getting intimate, someone would interfere.

Liang Zhixia finally smiled and slowly took Wang Xuan's hand: "I want to go to the lakeside with you to see the stars, I want to walk with you on a bustling street, I want to eat ice cream with you, I want to go to the movies with you, I want to..." Wang Xuan covered Liang Zhixia's mouth with his finger: "Don't say anymore, let's go eat ice cream first, okay?"

Liang Zhixia nodded obediently. Finally, her wait had not been in vain; the man who had once made a promise to her had returned.

Liang Zhixia was about to put on her mask when Wang Xuan stopped her: "I'm back now, what are you afraid of?" Wang Xuan casually tossed Liang Zhixia's mask into the trash can: "Come on, let's go get some ice cream."

However, the two had only taken a few steps.

With a creak, creak, Wang Xuan instinctively shielded Liang Zhixia behind him and reached for his waist to look. Two military armored vehicles parked on the side of the road braked sharply to a stop.

It seems that Wang Xuan's date with Liang Zhixia is going to be canceled again.

Several fully armed soldiers got out of the car, one of whom, carrying a pistol, approached Wang Xuan: "Wang Xuan, right? Our leader wants to invite you for tea." Liang Zhixia was terrified and hid behind Wang Xuan. The man carrying the pistol was a captain, and he looked quite formidable.

This sudden turn of events was truly unexpected for Wang Xuan; Xia Zhen had actually resorted to underhanded tactics!

The captain immediately comforted Liang Zhixia: "Miss Liang, don't be afraid. Your uncle said he wants to bring you along too." Since he could say he would bring Liang Zhixia, Wang Xuan had nothing to be afraid of and casually pulled Liang Zhixia into the car.

Half an hour later, in the command post of the military region, Wang Xuan sat watching Xia Zhen, who was engrossed in reviewing documents. It was clear the other party was trying to intimidate him. Liang Zhixia was moved to another room, told that Xia Ningshuang would be there shortly.

Wang Xuan has been sitting here for five minutes, but Xia Zhen completely ignores him, keeping his head down and revising the documents.

Wang Xuan was naturally in no hurry, staring at the cigarette in Xia Zhen's hand that was about to burn out.

When the cigarette ash landed on the table, Xia Zhen finally looked up: "Don't you smoke?" He casually tossed the cigarette to Wang Xuan, who then casually placed it back on the table: "I haven't smoked in a long time."

Wang Xuan guessed that Xia Zhen most likely already knew his identity.

Therefore, Wang Xuan was waiting.

After Xia Zhen finished reviewing the official document, he put it away and tidied up before leaning back in his chair and looking at Wang Xuan: "The domestic situation is not the same as that abroad. Kid, this is the first time I've misjudged someone in all my years in the army." Xia Zhen's words seemed to be an admission that he hadn't realized Wang Xuan was a mercenary.

Wang Xuan chuckled, "Hehe, how could General Xia Zhen say that? When I returned to the embrace of my motherland, I was just an ordinary unemployed youth, nothing more." Yes, Wang Xuan was also eager to express his stance; he simply wanted to return and marry Liang Zhixia.

But to everyone's surprise, Xia Zhen pulled out a pistol from under his desk, cocked it, and placed it on the table: "I only have this one niece. I've loved her more than my own daughter since she was little. No matter what she's become now, she's still the apple of my eye. I don't want her to marry a scoundrel from the underworld."

Scumbag?

Upon hearing this term, Wang Xuan was genuinely displeased. What did it mean to be a scoundrel? He was a king-like figure in the underworld.

Xia Zhen stared at Wang Xuan with a strange smile: "But speaking of which, your resume is really impressive. I just watched the eight-second video of you saving my niece during the day. Honestly, it would be great if you were one of my soldiers." This seemed to be another attempt to give Wang Xuan a way out.

"I returned for Zhixia, and I am willing to spend the rest of my life protecting Zhixia." Wang Xuan's answer also made his position clear: he was no longer prepared to deal with war.

Xia Zhen naturally didn't believe it and slammed his fist on the table: "I don't care what your purpose is, if you really want to marry my niece, then you'll have to get past me first. Stop with the nonsense. I can kill you right now anyway, since your identity is very, very dirty."

But to everyone's surprise, Wang Xuan's smiling face suddenly darkened. No matter the situation, Wang Xuan disliked being threatened.

A U.S. Army major general once threatened Wang Xuan and eventually died in his own home. To this day, the U.S. Secret Service has not been able to find out the truth.

Xia Zhen was secretly delighted to see Wang Xuan's expression change drastically. His goal was to provoke Wang Xuan so that he could then take Wang Xuan to his death on the spot.

However, Wang Xuan wasn't that foolish. The plan was too crude; even a fool wouldn't fall for it. Wang Xuan's face was as unpredictable as the weather; just moments ago it was gloomy, but now it was smiling: "General, it seems unnecessary!"

Xia Zhen was now puzzled. What was wrong with this kid? He had threatened and humiliated him so much, yet he remained so calm. He was beginning to understand why Wang Xuan, at such a young age, could be so outstanding in that ancient, dark world where people devoured each other without spitting out their flesh.

The young man in front of him gave him a feeling of being unable to grasp him, like a fog, clearly right in front of him but impossible to hold onto.

Xia Zhen suddenly sighed, and from that single sigh, Wang Xuan seemed to glean a great deal. Wang Xuan knew it was time to act, and he maintained his sunny smile: "General, I've gleaned some things from your sigh. First, you won't really kill me or arrest me. It's simple; your superiors, or even higher-ups, have given you orders to investigate me. Also, your sigh shows you see my persistence towards Zhixia. You know I'm sincere, so you can't do anything about it. Of course, I believe you're also in a dilemma. You originally wanted to intimidate me, to force me to leave Zhixia. However, I won't fall for that. Furthermore, my return to the country already speaks volumes. And, marrying into the family is truly not a problem."

For several seconds, Xia Zhen remained silent, clearly indicating that Wang Xuan had guessed everything correctly. Xia Zhen's expression was quite interesting; he simply stared at Wang Xuan with astonishment.

Finally, Xia Zhen suddenly laughed, a hearty laugh: "Haha, haha, this is really too funny. The younger generation surpasses the older generation, you can't deny getting old." Although Xia Zhen was laughing, Wang Xuan's expression turned serious. If a general of such stature only had this much skill, then it would be too ridiculous.

Sure enough, Xia Zhen's smile vanished abruptly, or rather, his laughter subsided quickly: "So?"

Wang Xuan sighed, "Alright, alright. I surrender, I surrender. Tell me your conditions, anyway, I'll still have to call you uncle from now on." Wang Xuan knew that this was the time to play the family card. Xia Zhen smiled smugly, "Haha, that's right. No matter how successful you are outside, after you marry Zhixia, I'll be your uncle. Isn't that interesting?"

However, Wang Xuan stared at Xia Zhen thoughtfully, a hint of worry in his eyes, and said, "Having mercenaries from the dark world become the nephew-in-law of a professional general is fine, as long as you're not afraid. Your government..." Before Wang Xuan could finish speaking, Xia Zhen immediately reached out to stop him, saying, "Alright, that's enough. Come to my military district whenever you have free time. You should have a lot of things my army needs in your head."

Sure enough, they're all old foxes. But why did Wang Xuan get the feeling that Xia Zhen was about to dissect him from head to toe from Xia Zhen's words?
