Esoteric Buddhism: To live as king in America
Chapter 13 Escape
As a true southerner from a hilly region, Mian had always longed for one thing: to ride a white-maned horse and enjoy the freedom of galloping across the grasslands every day. But this wish remained unfulfilled until the plane he was on crashed.
In other words, poor Mian had no experience riding horses, or rather, Mian only just realized that he seemed to be a little dizzy from riding horses.
The thin, silver-haired knight raced wildly through the alley, with Mian and the vagrant hanging behind Ain like two huge burdens, swaying in the wind.
Behind Ain, the eerie mist followed closely, its speed no less impressive. The grayish-white mist surged, then spewed forward a dense barrage of sword light, like a fishing net.
Ain witnessed all of this. Having been arrested countless times by the caregivers in the mental hospital, Ain knew that facing the giant net that seemed to have caught her, neither going left, right, forward, nor backward was the best way to escape. Only by running to a place the other party could she find liberation.
So, she used the wall beside her as leverage to leap upwards, then adjusted her body to narrowly dodge the fatal attack before landing on the ground.
"My lord, my lord, I'm amazing, aren't I!"
Ayn was still young and this was the first time she had made such a wonderful move. As soon as she landed, she began to ask Mian for credit.
Mian really wanted to pat her head and praise her for being so spoiled, but as soon as she opened her mouth, the dinner she had just eaten came out as semi-digested food.
"vomit……
"Hey! My lord, did I run too fast?"
Seeing Mian vomit so badly she looked like her soul was about to fly away, Ain, who had just been beaming with joy, suddenly had tears welling up in her eyes.
Seeing that Ain, with her small frame, had carried two large men away, Mian couldn't bring herself to say anything to blame her. All she could do was give Ain a thumbs-up and comfort her.
"It's okay, you keep running, I can handle it."
"I can't take it anymore... Ugh... Girl, make your movements a little smaller."
The homeless man, clinging to the tattered rag that Mian was wrapped in, let out a pitiful wail.
Based on the long tail effect, the leverage principle, and Newton's third law, the homeless man suffered the most damage during the recent maneuver. His clothes were already torn to shreds by the sword light and friction against the wall, and he was on the verge of being completely naked.
"You're just a hitchhiker, don't ask for too much. If you go any slower, we'll all be chopped into mincemeat. Come on, hold my hand and hug me, that'll make you feel a little better."
In order to reduce the torque and save Ai Yin's effort, and also because continuing to drag her would expose her, Mian reached out her hand to the homeless man hanging behind her.
The homeless man immediately understood and, filled with gratitude, reached out to grasp her hand. But just then, a gasp came from Ain, who was running ahead.
"My lord, this is a dead end. I'm about to jump."
"!"
Before Mian could respond, Ai Yin had already leaped into the air, facing the wall blocking her way. The sudden change in movement caused the homeless man's hand, which was about to grasp hers, to fall into thin air. In his fear of being airborne, he instead grabbed another corner of the tattered cloth covering Mian's body.
The sound of tearing fibers filled the air, and Mian sensed something was wrong. Looking ahead, the group had already leaped out of the deserted alley and onto the bustling bay avenue.
A towering statue of the Goddess of Justice stands in the bay, while the Black Tower District rises majestically across the water. A grand party is underway on this bay avenue, where people gather to celebrate the victory of the Ocean Federation's War of Independence, for their annual revelry.
Right under everyone's noses, the tattered cloth covering Mian's body was completely torn apart, leaving only a piece tightly clutched in her hand.
The homeless man completely lost his grip and fell heavily to the ground. Ayn stopped in her tracks at that moment, turned back, and excitedly said to Mian:
"My lord, that cloud of fog doesn't seem to have dared to follow us."
"Um."
Looking at the crowd of people around her casting strange glances at her, Mian silently wrapped her face with the last remaining rag.
"Put me down now. I've already run around naked. I can't be carried on a girl's back anymore."
Ayn nodded obediently, then put Mian on the ground, which drew whispers from the surrounding crowd.
For some reason, besides these whispers, Mian seemed to also hear the sound of dignity shattering into pieces on the ground. But oh well, none of that matters anymore.
Wiping away the tears that involuntarily streamed down her face, Mian looked back at the low wall they had leaped over. The eerie mist that had been following them closely was now completely out of sight.
Considering its previous display of mobility comparable to Ain's, it couldn't have been simply shaken off. There's only one answer: it or its owner is afraid of exposing it to the public.
If that's the case, I should have rushed towards where there were people from the start. Mian felt once again that she was incredibly unlucky.
But this also reminded him. It made him realize that information about such supernatural beings was rarely found on public websites for smartphones, and even when it was, it was mostly treated as an urban legend.
Could it be that something is preventing these extraordinary beings from being exposed to the world?
Mian silently memorized this information.
Just then, the homeless man recovered from his dazed state after falling to the ground. Despite being surrounded by onlookers, he felt no shame whatsoever, and simply dragged his equally naked body to Mian's side.
"Oh, bro."
His mouth was wide open, as if he could swallow a light bulb.
"What exactly is that thing? And are we safe now?"
"We're probably safe now."
Mian comforted him, while apologizing on her face.
"Although it was my first time seeing one either, that thing was probably aimed at me. I'm very sorry to have dragged you into this."
Having said this, Mian was prepared to compensate the homeless man. Unexpectedly, after stroking his beard and thinking for a while, the homeless man reached out and slapped Mian hard on the back.
"You're already like this, what else can I say, bro?"
The homeless man gave a thumbs up and a hearty smile spread across his face.
"We're all living such miserable lives, what's there to apologize for? We've practically become sworn brothers, why don't we get to know each other?"
Even though it was in another world and a different language was being used, Mian suddenly sensed a Freljord atmosphere.
"Um, if I may ask, you're not from the Rust Belt, are you?"
"Hey, brother, how did you know? We're genuine Great Lakes people. Back in the day, our area was pretty prosperous. It's a pity things are different now, otherwise we wouldn't have to come to the Liberty to make a living."
Well, he really is a true Northeasterner in some sense.
