Full-Time Magister: The Ruler of Wind and Rain

Chapter 14 Year-End Performance Appraisal

"How is it?" Mu He asked in a low voice as he saw Mu Bai approaching.

"I did as you said." Mu Bai's previously gloomy expression turned into a slight smile.

"That's good. In that case, you should be able to turn the tide and win a great victory. As for Mo Fan," Mu He revealed a chilling smile, "I'm just doing this for the good of the Mo family. By kicking his son out, we can save him the trouble of being a father. Now, at least we have an extra passenger."

Mu He and Mu Bai had already set up their dirty tricks. The bald examiner was undoubtedly one of their people, and the slightly adjusted exam order meant that after Mu Bai finished, Mo Fan would be next, and after Mo Fan, Wang Yu would take his exam. After Mu Bai finished his exam, while his hand was still on the Star Sensing Stone, they secretly slipped a hidden stone from his sleeve.

The function of the Dark Stone is simple: it absorbs some of the light emitted by the Star Stone, dimming it. Thus, Mo Fan, a complete novice who could easily only get a C, would be lucky to get more than a D after having his light absorbed by the tiny, grain-like Dark Stone. Wang Yu, affected by the Dark Stone, would probably only get an A at best. This gives Mu Bai a huge opportunity to overtake him. To maximize the differentiation between students' scores, Tianlan Magic High School's year-end assessment heavily relies on Stardust scores. A significant drop in this area means that even if Wang Yu's magic release is exceptionally good and he gets an A, he won't be able to make up for it. Based on Mu Bai's observations, Wang Yu's magic release seems to be facing some kind of bottleneck; his progress this semester hasn't been fast, and he's only slightly more proficient than Mu Bai now, probably only managing a B+ at most. Therefore, first place in the whole school will be Mu Bai's! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Mu Bai was grinning from ear to ear. This time, not only could he get Mo Fan expelled, but he could also snatch the first place and act like a big shot. It was so satisfying!

……

On the other side, Mu Zhuoyun slowly spoke, "Mo Fan, that name sounds familiar."

"Brother, he is the son of Madam's former driver." Mu He knew exactly what to say to hurt his brother the most.

Mu Ningxue, who had already recognized Mo Fan, had a slight twitch in her eyes, but quickly regained her composure. In truth, she had already recognized Mo Fan, but perhaps for this young girl, keeping her distance was a form of protection.

Mu Zhuoyun glanced at the calm Mu Ningxue beside him, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes. Children are bound to be immature and rebellious at times, especially girls, whose rebellious phase starts early but also ends relatively early. As they grow up, they won't be so childish anymore.

"Look," Mu Zhuoyun said calmly, "He was once part of the Mu family." He wanted his daughter to see that the son of a driver couldn't possibly be outstanding, and that such a person would eventually fade from their world. He didn't want such a boy to leave any scars in his precious daughter's heart.

……

Mo Fan didn't care what those people were saying. He couldn't forget Mu Ningxue, but he didn't go up to talk to her. He knew that with his current power, getting close to her would only harm himself and others.

With something on his mind, he inadvertently walked up to the Star Sensing Stone and, like everyone else, placed his hand on it.

The light was very faint, even weaker than a D-grade light. Strange, the light inside the Star-Sensing Stone was clearly vibrant, so why couldn't it break through the encirclement?

Wang Yu, this man—no, this boy—felt something was off.

Faced with this strange situation, instead of approaching to observe more closely, he closed his eyes and began to listen. This was a phenomenon that Wang Yu had accidentally discovered last month. When he closed his eyes and relaxed his mind but did not enter a meditative state, he seemed to be able to hear the sound of the wind.

The breeze echoed in his ears, and swayed in front of him. In moments when no one was aware, the winds of this world were whispering and telling Wang Yu their stories.

He listened carefully to the few gusts of wind closest to the Star-Sensing Stone. Some of the winds were gentle, some were restless, and some were cunningly swirling around him.

"Got you?" Wang Yu smiled and opened his eyes.

At this moment, Mo Fan had completed his first Stardust Test and actually got a B, which was above average. This caused a lot of discussion among the students and teachers who thought he was a poor student. Wang Yu also saw Mu Bai and Mu He whispering to each other. They thought they were whispering very quietly, but little did they know that the wind recorded everything.

What's the coolest way to make an entrance? This thought only lingered in Wang Yu's mind for a moment, not because he gave up, but because he had already figured it out.

"Wind Track - Speeding Up!"

While everyone around was focused on why Mo Fan, a slacker, had suddenly made such a dramatic improvement in his grades, only Mu Ningxue seemed to sense something. But when she realized what was happening, she only saw a streak of cyan wind extending from a distance to the Star Sensing Stone where Mo Fan was, and in the next instant, Wang Yu drifted past!

To avoid any unforeseen complications, Wang Yu immediately realized that he needed to find the culprit behind the problems with Mo Fanxing's Star Sensing Stone. Based on the information he had just overheard in the wind, he was already 80% certain he knew what it was and where it was. 80% certainty equals success; that was Wang Yu's mindset, and that's what he acted towards.

In the blink of an eye, Wang Yu passed the Star Sensing Stone from the back of the line, twirled it between two fingers, and then darted in front of the principal and his group. Between his right index and middle fingers was a tiny grain of sand, but something that no mage could ignore: a Dark Stone!

The moment Wang Yu stood still, the Star Sense Stone in front of Mo Fan, which had already finished its first test, suddenly burst out with a burst of light, giving the onlookers a real glimpse of its brilliance.

"Principal Zhu, please take this." Wang Yu smiled and handed the dark stone to the principal, who seemed to have finally realized what was happening, before turning and leaving.

Principal Zhu's gaze deepened. "The entire exam is suspended. Check all the Star Sense Stones. If there are no problems, this candidate will not have their exam attempts deducted and will be allowed to take the test three more times." He then surveyed the playground, glancing casually at Mu He, and declared with righteous indignation, "We must provide the candidates with the fairest and most just examination environment!"

The bald examiner was terrified. Every candidate's Star Sensing Stone was checked after the exam, and Mu Bai's examiner was the one being checked! Covering up or framing someone during the exam would have dire consequences!

Mu He was embarrassed, especially since the bald examiner was staring at him intently, and Mu Bai looked even more flustered. Finally, Mu He spoke up, "Since there's a problem, let's retest. Director Wang, go to the storage room and get another Star Sensing Stone… Star Sensing Stones are useful, but they're a bit delicate. They can cause minor problems when exposed to different energies. We really have to thank Wang Yu; he spotted it immediately and was quite agile, making up for our mistake."

As expected of an old fox, he immediately blocked the matter. Mu He is such a troublesome person. Fortunately, Wang Yu had already finished playing the role of Boyi, so he nodded in agreement. He was not prepared to break ties with the Mu family at this time.
