I revived the Demonic Sect in North America

Chapter 14 You're Just a Dog

Seeing that Li Ang didn't react much, Liu Yue felt a little discouraged.

But she's not one to give up easily.

She immediately turned to Bruce, clasped her hands together, blinked her eyes, and used the same coquettish tricks she always used on her elders and suitors, saying in a sweet, coquettish voice:

"Hey Bruce~ please take me! I'll treat you to dinner! No, I'll treat you and your cousin to dinner! A big meal! To the best steakhouse in Manhattan, you can order whatever you want!"

Bruce was almost completely overwhelmed by Liu Yue's sweet talk.

But he looked Liu Yue up and down, noting that her outfit was clearly quite expensive.

His remaining rationality still made him shake his head and refuse:

"Hey girl, it's not about whether you eat or not. This area south of the Bronx is no joke. My cousin and his gang seem all smiles and laughter, but they can be incredibly rough when they get physical. A girl like you going there would be like throwing a perfectly grilled steak into a pack of starving dogs. What do you think would happen?"

Bruce's metaphor, though crude, is indeed very vivid.

Instead of being scared, Liu Yue burst out laughing, finding Bruce's words quite amusing.

"Then if I follow you and Li Ang, you two are so capable, yet you can't protect a little girl like me?"

"We'll protect you?"

Bruce glanced at Li Ang, who was silently eating and seemed completely detached from the situation, and said with a wry smile:

"Li Ang isn't good at fighting. This guy's cunning; he's faster than anyone else when a fight breaks out. As for me... although I'm big and strong, I can't fight four hands with one fist. If something really happens, I'll have a hard time even taking care of myself. Girl, take my advice: curiosity killed the cat. This isn't something you girls should get involved in."

Liu Yue continued to pester him, and Zhang Han finally lost his patience.

He slammed the salad bowl down on the table with a loud "bang".

The attention of the other three people at the table was drawn to them.

Zhang Han managed to maintain a calm expression, but his tone had become anxious and flustered:

"Yueyue, stop fooling around. Do you know what the south is like? It's a slum! It's synonymous with filth, chaos, and danger! The streets there are full of garbage, needles, homeless people, and gangsters! What if something happens to you? How am I supposed to explain it to Uncle Liu?"

As Zhang Han was speaking, he noticed that Bruce's gaze was starting to turn unfriendly, so he quickly tried to cover it up:

"Well, Bruce only declined because he cares about you. Perhaps we should spend our time on more meaningful things, like preparing for SAT practice tests or looking into Ivy League summer programs. Those are the things we should be focusing on!"

Bruce curled his lip.

Influenced by Li Ang, he was not a person who liked to fight or be aggressive, so he didn't say anything.

Liu Yue, however, reacted like a cat whose tail had been stepped on; the coquettish expression on her face vanished instantly, replaced by undisguised annoyance.

"Zhang Han, are you fucking annoying? Where I go and what I'm interested in is none of your business! SAT? Ivy League schools? Those are things my dad cares about, not me! If you think those are important matters, go do them yourself and don't bother me!"

Liu Yue became increasingly angry as she spoke, and her voice rose, drawing the attention of the surrounding students.

"All you do is think about is the SAT, GPA, and recommendation letters. You live like a complete nerd, it's so boring! I just think Leon is handsome, and I just think Bruce is interesting, so what?"

Zhang Han was publicly criticized, yet he was afraid of Liu Yue's status and dared not retaliate.

Under the curious gaze of the crowd, his face flushed red and then turned pale.

Bruce quite liked Liu Yue's straightforward manner.

They especially enjoy seeing Zhang Han get his comeuppance.

He grinned at Liu Yue and gave her a thumbs up:

"Little girl, you've got guts! But it's fine if you go play with my cousin."

Liu Yue snorted and didn't insist anymore, but she still had an expression on her face that said, "I'll go sooner or later."

Just then, the class preparation bell rang sharply, instantly drowning out all other sounds in the cafeteria.

Unlike students at Tokyo University who have ample lunch break time, American high school students have a very short lunch break, less than forty minutes.

This 40-minute period also includes time spent going back and forth to get books, finding the classroom, and going to the toilet.

This is because prolonged breaks can easily lead to bullying and conflicts among students, as well as other types of safety accidents.

To reduce liability and lawsuits, schools prefer to shorten lunch breaks and let students leave school early so they can release their youthful energy in the open spaces outside the school.

"Oh, Shirt, my first class this afternoon is chemistry!"

Upon hearing the bell, Bruce's bottom immediately sprang up from his chair as if it were springy, frantically starting to clear away his plates while yelling:

"I have to go right now, Li Ang, and you, my charming little chick! You know what? Old Bob in chemistry class is a freak! If you're late even once, you have to copy the periodic table ten times!"

Li Ang calmly stood up and smiled slightly:

"Wow, that's really weird."

Bruce patted Li Ang on the shoulder, winked at Liu Yue, and walked to the dish return area on his own.

Li Ang gave a wry smile.

He certainly understood that Bruce wanted to create an opportunity for himself and Liu Yue.

If he had free time on weekdays, Li Ang wouldn't mind hanging out with Liu Yue and earning some pocket money.

Unfortunately, Li Ang was pressed for time and had no time for such thoughts.

On the contrary, Liu Yue understood Bruce's gaze perfectly and immediately launched an offensive against Li Ang:

"Hey Li Ang, what classes do you have this afternoon? Want to walk together? I'm not familiar with the school yet, I might get lost. If you'd like to help me, I can treat you to dinner tonight."

She deliberately put on a pitiful look and stared at Li Ang with pleading eyes.

Other guys would probably find it hard to refuse such a beautiful and proactive girl.

Li Ang shook his head slightly and said politely:

"I'm sorry, Liu, I've had some things to take care of lately, so I'm afraid I won't have time to keep our appointment for the time being. The floor plan of the main building is at the entrance of the stairwell on each floor. I'm sure with your smart little brain that can pass AP Calculus, you'll be able to understand it. Sorry, I have to go now."

After finishing his sentence, Li Ang turned and left, his movements swift and decisive, leaving Liu Yue no room to continue entangled.

As Liu Yue watched him leave, the smile on her face vanished instantly.

She bit her lip, stomped her foot in frustration, and muttered angrily under her breath:

"Who is it...?"

However, her interest in Li Ang did not diminish; on the contrary, it grew stronger because Li Ang ignored her.

Liu Yue picked up her almost untouched plate and prepared to leave.

Zhang Han, who had been waiting patiently for a long time, quickly stepped forward and flattered him:

"Yueyue, I know the school well! I can go to class with you! I also have time to have dinner with you in the evening!"

Liu Yue stopped in her tracks, looked at him expressionlessly, and said coldly:

"Zhang Han, was I too nice to you before, causing you to get the wrong idea and think you're something special?"

Zhang Han's smile froze, and he forced himself to remain calm, saying:

"Yueyue, don't say that. I'm doing this for your own good. Before we came to America, Uncle Liu also told me to take care of you..."

"Take care of me? You're not worthy!"

Liu Yue chuckled and sized Zhang Han up and down:

"Stop with your little schemes. My dad put you with me as a follower, to do my odd jobs, not so you can boss me around, and certainly not so you can climb the social ladder. Understand?"

These words showed absolutely no mercy to Zhang Han.

Zhang Han's mouth was agape, his face flushed and pale, and he was making a hissing sound, but he couldn't utter a single word in rebuttal.

Seeing his pathetic state, Liu Yue grew increasingly disgusted and unleashed a double finishing blow:

"There's an old Chinese saying: 'A wise man submits to circumstances.' Zhang Han, you're just a dog, so don't even think about sitting at the table and being the master. I was too embarrassed to say anything to Li Ang and the others earlier, but please stay away from me from now on and don't keep hanging around me."
