Which way to go is the road?

Chapter 15 Getting Double Pay

After Dong Lu returned to school, Qian Luomei went to the front desk. Contrary to her expectations, the customers who came to the internet cafe did not gossip about her past. Instead, many people came to ask where the beautiful cashier from before had gone.

Qian Luomei gradually withdrew her "defensive dagger" from her mind, and the various arguments she had prepared were no longer useful, leaving her feeling somewhat disappointed.

After a morning of trying, she finally encountered a few clueless people who asked her a few questions about the soldier. Before they could finish, she rattled off all their questions: "Yes, I'm that foolish woman who got scammed, Qian Luomei. I was blind, so feel free to say whatever you want! I can even tell you something you don't know: I almost sold the whole internet cafe because of that scammer!"

None of her prepared explanations were useful; her candid reply actually put Qian Luomei at ease, and she stopped worrying. She smiled and said, "If the whole internet cafe were sold, you'd probably just go somewhere else to use the internet. Nobody wants to waste such a prime location opening an internet cafe!"

"Look at what you're saying! What kind of sarcastic remarks would we make? Has anyone said that before? That's really despicable. We're not like that. What's past is past. You're doing great now. To be honest, if this internet cafe were gone, I really wouldn't know where I'd go to use the internet! What's past is past. We'll continue to support your business as always!"

These idle people who usually seem annoying and disgusting have suddenly become quite endearing, and even the people who came with them are nodding in agreement.

Life isn't that bad. Give life a smile, and it will return a ray of sunshine to you.

After cleaning and washing his hands, Xiang Fei walked across the fishpond to the front desk, where he was surprised to see Qian Luomei singing: "On the banyan tree by the pond, cicadas are chirping, announcing summer..."

"Sister Luomei, you seem to be in a good mood today!"

"When have I ever been in a bad mood? I'm just exceptionally happy today!"

"Why? Did you find some money?"

"Superficial. Do I, Qian Luomei, lack money? Why would I be so happy to find money?"

"Why?"

"Uh... I hate the heat, so I'm happy with the cool, clear skies and crisp air as summer turns to autumn, okay?"

"It's not that profound! Autumn has come before! Is it really that big of a deal?"

"None of your business..." Qian Luomei picked up a pen and threw it, but Xiang Fei caught it. Surprised, he picked up a calculator and pretended to throw it.

"Admin, the mouse isn't moving! Admin..." The urgent cries echoed from the internet area in the distance, and the people playing online games were absolutely furious about this computer malfunction.

Qian Luomei picked up the walkie-talkie: "Xiangzi, Haoming, one of you come down here, someone's calling for the internet cafe manager!"

"Sister Luomei, I'm dealing with a computer problem upstairs. Haoming is in the bathroom downstairs!" Xiangzi's deep voice came through the walkie-talkie, sounding a little out of breath, as he was probably squatting on the ground fixing the problem.

"Xiang Fei went to the restroom to urge Wang Haoming; he really knows how to time it!"

"Don't bother him, I'll handle it." Xiang Fei stood up from the sofa, walked to the bar, and pointed to the computer in Qian Luomei's hand: "It's her own property, if it gets damaged, it's none of my business!"

"Hey, are you sure you can handle it?"

"You'll find out soon enough!" Xiang Fei turned back and gave Qian Luomei a meaningful smile before heading towards the internet area.

A moment later, Wang Haoming came out of the restroom, wiped his wet hands on his clothes, and walked to the front desk, saying, "Sister Luo Mei, which computer was malfunctioning? I'll go take a look!"

"No need, Xiang Fei has already gone!"

"What can a cleaner do there? He might break the machine!"

"I'm not sure either, but since he took the initiative, he should be able to fix it!"

"No, I have to go see where it is."

"Sector B! You don't need to go. Xiang Fei is back; let's ask him."

Xiang Fei was in a good mood because he had solved a computer problem independently, right under the boss's nose.

Passing by the fishpond, I casually picked up some fish food and sprinkled it on the surface. The fish, whose names I didn't know, rushed over, vying to surface and greedily devouring the meager amount of food. Ripples spread across the water, lotus buds and leaves floated by, creating a rather attractive scene in the internet cafe.

Xiang Fei watched for a while, then left the fishpond and walked towards the front desk. As he got closer, he noticed two people staring at him, which made him feel uncomfortable. He awkwardly walked over.

"Is it fixed?" Seeing Xiang Fei's uncomfortable look, Qian Luomei shook her head and asked jokingly.

"Fixed! It was a minor issue; I'd just ripped the mouse cable, put it back in, and restarted the computer!"

"Who told you to fix it? A cleaner should just do their job. You broke the computer, can you afford to pay for it?" Wang Haoming gritted his teeth, his eyes seemed to turn into two mouths, burning with an indescribable hatred as if he were about to devour someone. Even Qian Luomei next to him turned her head and looked at him in surprise.

"I saw that you were all busy and people were urging me, and I also told Sister Luo Mei before I went!" Xiang Fei suppressed his anger and tried to answer calmly.

"If they're pushing you hard, they're pushing the internet cafe administrator. What does it have to do with a stinky janitor like you?..."

"Wang Haoming, isn't this going too far? Judging from your tone, you think this internet cafe is yours now? I'm the boss, what right do you have to babble about it? Xiang Fei went to get the computer fixed and told me, and I agreed. And this stinky cleaner, you look down on cleaners, don't you? Don't forget how you got this internet cafe in the first place! I thought you'd changed because you've been working hard lately, but you're still the same stinky person! Let me tell you, from now on, besides cleaning, Xiang Fei will also be the internet cafe manager on the first floor. You two should get along well from now on; you're colleagues. Why do you have to pick a fight with each other? Go apologize to Xiang Fei!"

At this moment, Qian Luomei perfectly embodied the boldness and efficiency of a girl from Yandu, and she seemed even more like a boss.

"I'm...sorry!" Wang Haoming was unwilling and resentful, but he obeyed Qian Luomei's words without question.

"It's okay, we're just colleagues. I won't do it again..." Xiang Fei noticed that although Wang Haoming apologized verbally, he didn't even look at him properly, so he wisely stopped talking.

"Alright, you can go upstairs now. From now on, Xiang Fei will handle the issues on the first floor, so you two won't have to run up and down!"

Wang Haoming responded and went upstairs. Qian Luomei walked over and patted Xiang Fei on the shoulder: "That's just Wang Haoming's temper, don't mind him!"

"Sister Luo Mei, I didn't care. I'm just afraid I won't do a good job as a network administrator. I just learn what Lao You and the others usually handle. There are still a few problems I haven't encountered yet, let alone learned, such as setting up a regional network!" Xiang Fei was serious about this. If he couldn't do the job well, he might as well not do it at all.

"That's great! You've learned so much in less than two months, I'm really impressed! You can learn those two things slowly. Anyway, I'm not planning on changing the machines anytime soon, so they'll be fine for these minor issues!" After saying that nice thing, Qian Luomei, as the boss, started calculating again: "However, until I find a cleaner, you can't neglect the cleaning of the internet cafe. If I'm busy, the front desk cashier is also your responsibility! Okay? If not, just say so!"

"Okay, I'll get up early and clean up. The machines won't break down all the time. When there's nothing to do, I'll just stay at the front desk and take a break! If a machine malfunctions occasionally, I'll go and fix it. Anyway, there are surveillance cameras everywhere in the internet cafe, so if no one's at the front desk for a while, it probably won't be a problem. Just make sure the money is locked up!"

"Sounds a bit busy, but it's okay, young people can work hard! Don't worry, you won't work for nothing. It'll be paid double for every day you work as a cleaner, isn't that fair?"

"And there's the front desk work too, shouldn't it be tripled?" Xiang Fei asked, looking aggrieved and feigning pitifulness.

"No, double it! Don't push your luck!" Qian Luomei, acting like a female landlord, pinched Xiang Fei hard, making him beg for mercy in pain.

Humans have an innate tendency to be lazy, in this respect no different from other ordinary animals. When basic survival conditions are met, they become complacent and may even abandon basic hunting skills to obtain food. Therefore, wild animals in zoos will only face death if they are separated from their keepers.

However, humans differ from ordinary animals in that they can restrain and even overcome their inherent laziness, constantly learning and acquiring new knowledge and skills, thereby creating greater opportunities for personal growth. Of course, there are also those who are enslaved by their innate laziness, not only being lazy in their behavior but also clinging to outdated ideas. Even with superior living conditions, they are still domesticated animals and cannot be considered truly human.
