Lin Luo stood by the bed, his gaze sweeping over Eland's pale and quiet face, before looking at Dr. Parks, whom he had just urgently summoned. Only they and the sleeping Eland were in the room.
"Doctor," Lin Luo's voice was deep and clear.
"I need you to conduct a formal reassessment of Ayland's mental state in your professional capacity, accurately describing its severity. There is no need to, and cannot, conceal this fact."
Dr. Parks nodded immediately and skillfully operated the portable testing device. The chaotic and dim data stream that instantly appeared on the screen silently told of how bad the situation was.
"Your Excellency, the Major General's spiritual sea... is indeed as we know, the damage is devastating, and its activity is almost completely dormant."
"Any medical officer who sees this will come to the same conclusion."
"Very good." Lin Luo nodded slightly, then changed the subject, "Next, I need you to introduce an 'experimental therapy'."
A hint of doubt appeared in the doctor's eyes behind his glasses.
Lin Luo continued to explain, speaking at a steady pace:
"This treatment method was designed by you from scratch based on your professional knowledge."
"Its purpose is not to truly cure Eland, that I will do, but to serve as a 'front,' a 'reasonable' explanation to deal with the curious eyes of the military, the Academy of Sciences, and all others."
"It needs to conceal the fact that my spiritual power does not need to be combined, but can be effective simply through contact."
Seeing that the doubt in the doctor's eyes was gradually replaced by realization, he further explained:
"This treatment sounds very bold, even a bit... far-fetched."
"As for the results, you can attribute it all to Ayland's own tenacious will to survive, or simply admit that the success rate is extremely low."
"The important thing is to make the outside world think that we are just unable to accept reality, and are making a futile, last-ditch effort, and are 'grasping at straws'."
Dr. Parks understood completely.
He had been preoccupied with the thought that only Lord Lin Luo's mental strength could heal the Major General from Ailand's serious injury, but he almost forgot how great a danger this hope was to Lin Luo.
"I understand, Your Excellency!" The doctor's voice was solemn; only he could shoulder this heavy responsibility.
"Please rest assured, I will design a solution that appears to be based on cutting-edge theory, but is complex to implement in practice and its effectiveness is difficult to verify."
"I will make all the reviewers think that this is just Dr. Parks's unwilling academic adventure, and that it is your support in grief, and that they will never associate it with your spiritual strength."
His gaze became incredibly resolute, and he even subconsciously straightened his back: "I will definitely protect you and Major General Ailand."
Seeing the fighting spirit burning in the doctor's eyes, Lin Luo let out a soft breath and nodded. Another step had been arranged.
A silent battle is unfolding quietly in the still room.
Dr. Parks left with a heavy sense of mission, the door closed gently, and the room returned to silence.
Lin Luo turned around and his gaze fell on Ailand's sleeping face.
During this period, he focused his attention on providing deep reassurance every three hours.
Even during the intervals, he controlled his mental energy, allowing it to dissipate slowly and continuously into the air, like breathing.
The room was already permeated with his presence. Even the panda that used to love frolicking in the backyard would now often wander in and find a corner to curl up in, as if it felt more at ease here.
Lin Luo didn't know if all of this would be useful, or if it could really bring back Ailand.
He stubbornly tried every method he could think of, again and again, as if grasping at a straw.
He sat down by the bed, his fingertips gently brushing against Ailand's cool cheek, a gesture he himself was unaware of as he cherished her.
His chaotic thoughts gradually settled, and a strange tranquility enveloped him.
For the first time in his life, he had such a clear desire to protect something. No matter how difficult the road ahead, at least he would not regret giving it his all in the future.
He unconsciously leaned down slightly, his nose gently touching Ailand's nose, rubbing against it like a small animal confirming its scent.
Up close, Ayland's long, thick eyelashes were clearly visible, quietly covering her eyelids.
For a moment, Lin Luo almost had the illusion that the eyelashes would flutter and those icy blue eyes would open—
He paused, then gave a self-deprecating smile. "You're really dreaming... A severe blow to the mind isn't so easy to recover from..."
Just then—
"Splat!"
A heavy weight suddenly pounced on me from behind without warning!
Lin Luo was completely unprepared and was forced forward by the force. His lips unexpectedly collided with two cool but soft touches—it was Ailand's lips!
Their chests were pressed tightly together, and through the thin fabric, he could even feel Ailand's soft, elastic pectoral muscles!
Lin Luo's eyes widened instantly, his mind went blank, and all he could hear was the pounding of his chest like a drum, making his eardrums throb.
In his shock, he didn't realize that the instant their lips touched, a spiritual force, purer and warmer than ever before, flowed uncontrollably into Eland's body through this unexpected contact.
When he suddenly came to his senses, he sprang up as if he had been burned. The culprit—the round and chubby original—was sliding off his back and falling innocently onto the soft bed.
It turns out that this guy climbed onto the bed at some point, pretended to be dead among a bunch of toys, and then launched a surprise attack!
Lin Luo was both annoyed and amused. She grabbed the "brat" and gave his chubby bottom a couple of light pats.
"Don't you have any sense of your own weight?! Do you think you're a baby? Jumping on people like that!"
"He almost crushed me to death with his butt!"
Gun Gun was quite unconvinced and started whimpering pitifully. Not satisfied with that, it twisted its round body and kept bumping into Lin Luo's arms.
"This idiot, does it think I'm playing with it?"
Lin Luo was utterly exasperated. He helplessly pushed it away a little, but it happily pounced back. After a while, it turned this into a new game and had a great time playing it.
Looking at this carefree, increasingly excited fool, Lin Luo felt helpless. Well, what else could he do but play along with his "bear son" and resigned himself to his fate of causing trouble.
While Lin Luo and Gun Gun were playing around, no one noticed that deep within Ailand's lifeless spiritual sea, that faint point of light seemed to have finally absorbed the most crucial nourishment. It was no longer flickering weakly, but had grown slightly larger.
The light it emitted also seemed to become more solid and stable.
Like a seed that has finally drunk its fill of sweet rain under the boundless, dark frozen soil, quietly sprouting a tiny, barely perceptible bud.
