Chapter 16 [The Flesh Bodhisattva's] Request

With great difficulty, Lu Yu suppressed the despair surging in his heart, put away the pocket watch, and looked solemnly at the "temple".

Just now, in his memory, he saw the stone Buddha turn its head, and the candles in the four corners of the "temple" went out at the same time, then quickly reignited, but the flames had turned into black flames that emitted a strong stench. The huge black chains were not moved, but they emitted a mournful and sharp cry.

Clearly, the stone Buddha that existed only in the depths of the [Flesh Bodhisattva's] memory could even slightly penetrate the barrier between memory and reality. It was only a few aftershocks that briefly triggered the containment measures set up by Bodhi.

Wang Zheng and the white-haired woman both wore solemn expressions, their gazes fixed on the mutilated bodies in the "temple".

If the "Flesh Bodhisattva" wants to take this opportunity to escape, this is undoubtedly the perfect chance.

However, it seems to have no such intention.

Only after the last tremor within the "temple" subsided and the candle flames returned to normal did that voice, calm to the point of being almost hollow, slowly begin to speak:

"Don't worry, I'll stay here and wait for my 'final chapter' to arrive."

Although in a sense this was exactly the outcome the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs wanted—after all, if the "Flesh Bodhisattva" didn't die, the strange stone Buddha existing in the other's memories would only appear sooner—Lu Yu still couldn't help but ask:

"Since you can foresee the future, why don't you try to change it?"

The "Flesh Bodhisattva" smiled without saying a word. This smile fell on his skinless face, making it impossible to tell whether it was ferocious or compassionate.

Seeing that it was unwilling to answer, Lu Yu changed the subject: "Then could you give us a little hint about the future of the three of us?"

In fact, the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs had been trying to use the [Flesh Bodhisattva]'s ability to foresee the future, but the [Flesh Bodhisattva] had always been unwilling to cooperate. Today, he had a rare opportunity to communicate with the other party, so he naturally did not want to let it go.

"The only future I can foresee is the future that concerns me."

Upon hearing this, Wang Zheng immediately frowned and asked warily, "So, your initial detention... was indeed intentional?"

This has always been a mystery that has troubled everyone in the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs. Although the bureau had sent out many experts at the time, with the strength of the "Flesh Bodhisattva" and its ability to foresee the future, it was impossible for it to be imprisoned deep underground if it did not want to.

[The Flesh Bodhisattva] seemed not to have heard the question, or perhaps was considering whether to answer it. After a long while, he spoke slowly, his voice still gentle, but the content sent chills down the spines of the three:

"On the day I die, one of you will also die."

"Explain yourself! Who will die?" Lu Yu's expression changed slightly as he pressed for an answer.

The "Flesh Bodhisattva" remained silent, still smiling.

Lu Yu knew that as long as the "Flesh Bodhisattva" refused to answer, it would be a waste of effort to ask him any further. But he was really unwilling to give up and tried every possible method to probe repeatedly. He even changed his address from "Brother Bodhisattva" to "Papa Bodhisattva," but he still couldn't get an answer.

Wang Zheng frowned and whispered, "The forbidden sequence's words cannot be completely trusted. Besides, no one can be sure that the future it foresees will come true. Even if you are really worried about my and Xiaoqin's safety, there is no need to ask it for help like this."

"Who said I was worried about your safety?"

Lu Yu gave him a strange look, scratched his messy hair, and said with a worried expression, "I'm afraid that I'll be the one who dies. If that happens, I'll have to enjoy myself for at least half a year first."

Wang Zheng's face darkened.

Lu Yu didn't look at him, remained silent for a long time, and finally asked the question he cared about most.

"What exactly is that thing in your memory?"

"god."

After a long silence, the "Flesh Bodhisattva" finally spoke again, but only uttered this one word without giving any explanation.

"You call a being that attempts to descend to earth through you a god?"

In fact, the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs is determined to execute the "Flesh Bodhisattva" for two reasons. First, the other party has the ability to foresee parts of the future, which is very likely to cause serious damage to the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs in the near future.

But this is only a secondary reason. The real reason is that, according to Bodhi, even such a powerful "flesh bodhisattva" is merely a medium. If it is not executed, an even more terrifying being will descend upon it in the future.

It is worth mentioning that Bodhi clearly pointed out the threat of the "flesh bodhisattva," but gave the contradictory advice of "not executing" for some unknown reason.

"God is God, and His identity cannot be denied because of His actions."

The Flesh Bodhisattva said calmly, "Even though you have used all sorts of means to execute me so many times, I have never denied your identity as 'human'."

Clearly, after being executed in so many different ways, it harbored some resentment.

Being implied to be not human, Lu Yu wasn't embarrassed. Instead, he curiously examined the head hanging from the black chains and tentatively asked, "If that's the case, then what is your undeniable identity...?"

The Flesh Bodhisattva did not answer, but calmly said, "If you want to give that god a name, you can call him—the Rotten Buddha."

"Rotten Buddha..."

Lu Yu had completely erased the image of that stone Buddha from his memory, but even so, a chill still ran down his spine. He etched that name firmly into his heart and pressed on, "Besides these things, is there anything else you can tell us?"

He knew very well that the reason why the "Flesh Bodhisattva" was willing to see them today was not because it was afraid of its own death and wanted to confide in someone. It must have something else to convey to them, or rather... to the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs.

[The Flesh Bodhisattva] understood his meaning and said slowly, "I have a request."

ask?

All three were taken aback, a sense of absurdity rising in their hearts. It was rare for a forbidden sequence to make a request to the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs.

Before they could respond, the "Flesh Bodhisattva" continued speaking to himself: "This request is related to the 'Crimson Script' you are searching for."

"What is the 【Crimson Script】?" Lu Yu asked, looking bewildered.

Thinking that this guy had indeed been extremely busy lately and had no time to pay attention to these things, Wang Zheng had no choice but to reluctantly explain: "The newly appeared S-level forbidden sequence yesterday, Bodhi did not give it a name, but blood-red characters appeared on the fallen leaves for the first time, so headquarters simply used [Blood-red Characters] as its code name."

"No name was given, and blood-red characters appeared for the first time... It's obvious there's something wrong here..."

Lu Yu was stunned for a moment, then suddenly realized what was happening and complained, "Why didn't you tell me about something this important sooner?"

"I called you and even came to your door."

Wang Zheng remained expressionless. "But you told me to get lost."

"……All right."

Lu Yu scratched his head, not embarrassed at all, and looked at [Flesh Bodhisattva] again: "What do you want us to do with [Crimson Script]? Capture it and make it your roommate?"

"Bodhi's advice regarding the [Crimson Script] is to strictly prohibit its inclusion," Wang Zheng reminded him.

"Strictly prohibiting harboring? This is the first time I've heard such strong wording..."

"Still...still severe...severe..."

The white-haired woman tried to add something with difficulty, but her stutter was so severe that Wang Zheng immediately replied:

"Execution is strictly prohibited."

"Strictly prohibit harboring criminals, and strictly prohibit executions?"

Lu Yu's eyes widened. "Could this newly emerged forbidden sequence be Bodhi's biological son?"

Wang Zheng's lips twitched slightly: "Bodhi is a tree, but the [Crimson Script] is at least in appearance a person..."

"Naive. Can't trees have children?"

Lu Yu scoffed at his meager imagination, then his expression turned serious, as if deep in thought, "But... it's another S-rank forbidden sequence for humanoids..."

He looked up at the "Flesh Buddha," his expression gradually turning strange. "Could it be... that thing is your biological son?"

The "Flesh Bodhisattva" ignored him and simply stated his request.

"I hope you can kill him."
