The next morning, Motu was awakened by a thunderous shout.

"New guy! Get up! The sun's shining right into your scales!"

The voice was so close it seemed to be right next to his ear. Mo Tu suddenly opened his eyes, his vertical pupils still shrouded in the haze of just waking up. He saw a dark green head squeeze in through the window of the stone house.

Several round bulges adorned its long neck, its emerald green vertical pupils shone with astonishing brightness, its serrated teeth were wide open, and it laughed like a madman.

Motu froze instantly.

They only met for the first time yesterday, and he's a dragon of the opposite sex. How dare this Green Tile just pry open the window and call him to get up?!

"Get out of here!"

Motu's voice was hoarse from just waking up, but it couldn't hide his shock.

"Can't you please respect the dragon's right to privacy?!"

Green Tile paused for a moment, then burst into a loud laugh, its long neck darting back through the window opening, its voice still echoing outside:

"Akino said you should go to her place to pick up your patrol equipment when you wake up! Hurry up, you're so slow!"

Motu sat on the stone bed for a while to recover before raising his hand to rub his temples and shake off the scales on his body.

A night's rest had greatly restored his health; the soreness in his left arm had completely disappeared, and there were no unusual noises when he moved his joints.

He was still a little dazed from the sudden attack.

He scratched at the fur on the stone bed with his paw, smoothing out the wrinkles, then walked to the corner, picked up the pickaxe, and slung it over his back, wedging it into the gaps between the scales.

As I stepped out of the stone house, the morning light was just emerging from behind the hills to the east.

The sky was grayish-blue, with a few wisps of thin clouds tinged with orange-red.

A thin mist floated on the river, drifting slowly along the surface, like a translucent veil spread across it. The reeds swayed in the morning breeze, the dewdrops on their leaves sparkling in the sunlight.

People are already active in the camp.

Green Tile squatted by the river, poking at the fish in the water with the tip of its tail. After poking for a long time without catching a single one, it got angry and slapped the water with its tail, splashing up a spray of water.

Una huddled in a corner of the open space, with several rough stone bowls in front of her, filled with a grayish paste.

She kept her head down, eating in small bites, her movements very light, making almost no sound.

Inigo stood further away, still in that same wooden stake posture, arms crossed, legs shoulder-width apart, expressionless, gazing towards the opposite bank of the river.

The morning light fell on his grayish-brown scales, without any reflection.

Motu looked around but didn't see Luo Lin or Qiu Ye.

"Where's Akino?" he asked Green Tile.

Green Tile didn't even look up, its eyes focused on battling the fish in the water, ignoring Blue Dragon, and simply pointed to the riverbank with the tip of its tail: "Over there."

Motu walked towards the river.

Akino was indeed by the river.

She sat on a flat rock, facing the river, her legs crossed, the hem of her dark blue robe spread out on the rock like a blooming flower.

She held a herbal scroll in her hand, which was already mostly burned, with grayish-white ash hanging from the end, teetering precariously.

She took a deep breath and exhaled a cloud of smoke, which rose in the morning light and was dispersed by the river breeze.

Motu walked up behind her and stopped.

"Akino-senpai."

Akino turned his head, his deep brown vertical pupils glancing at him, and the corners of his mouth curved slightly:

"Hey, up so early? Did that girl Green Tile wake you up?"

"You woke me up."

Mo Tu readily agreed, then paused and added,

She said you sent me to collect the equipment.

Akino hummed in agreement, took the cigarette out of his mouth, and tapped the ash off on the rock next to him.

The cigarette ash fell to the ground and turned into a few wisps of pale golden sparks, which dissipated in an instant.

She reached out and hooked a palm-sized metal object from the stone shelf behind her.

The thing looked like a polished obsidian, with three crimson crystals embedded in its surface and a ring of dark silver patterns around its edge. It felt slightly warm to the touch, a characteristic of alchemical creations.

"This is the 'Beacon Stone,' the patrol team's paging warning device."

Qiu Ye placed the beacon stone into Mo Tu's palm, then tapped the brightest crystal in the center with his fingertip.

"I wear it on my body normally. If I encounter danger, I can press the middle one, and it will emit a beep that only our team can receive, and it can also transmit a location signal to me."

The two next to it are spares; don't lose them.

Motu held the beacon stone in his hand, feeling the coolness of the crystal with his fingertips, and nodded.

Qiuye glanced at Lanlong, and seeing that he lingered, put the cigarette back in his mouth, exhaled a pale blue smoke ring, and smiled.

"What? Is there something else?"

Motu hesitated for a moment.

He had originally planned to exchange a few pleasantries, inquire about the situation of the troops, the patrol routes, and the border situation.

Gradually and naturally steer the conversation toward wizards.

But Akino's deep brown vertical pupils were looking at him, his eyes neither urging nor offering any pleasantries.

She seemed to have already seen through what he was thinking, and was just waiting for him to speak.

Motu decided to speak directly.

"I would like to ask some questions about wizards."

Akino raised an eyebrow slightly.

She put the cigarette back in her mouth, took a half puff, and then spat it out.

The smoke formed a grayish-white cloud in front of her, obscuring her expression. When the smoke cleared, the corners of her mouth curved into a more pronounced smile.

"really."

she says,

"Last night, Luo Lin told me that this newcomer would definitely come to you. I said not necessarily, maybe he'll go to the captain first?"

"No, that kid's smart; he knows who to talk to."

Motu did not respond.

Akino patted the rock next to him: "Sit down."

Motu looked at the size of the rock, then at his own size.

The rock wasn't big enough for him to sit on. So he simply squatted down, supporting himself on his forelimbs, and looked at Akino at eye level.

Akino looked at the way he squatted down and chuckled, "Okay, I like it when you're not bothered by formalities."

She stubbed out her cigarette and tucked it into her sleeve, then straightened her posture, her deep brown vertical pupils becoming more serious.

"What do you want to know?"

Motu didn't answer immediately. He mentally organized his thoughts before asking his first question:

How are wizard ranks determined?

Akino glanced at him, thought for a moment, and then drew a few lines on the rock with his finger.

The lines are straight and evenly spaced, like drawing a table.

"The path of a wizard can be roughly divided into several levels, from low to high."

She pointed to the bottom line with her finger.

"First Ring, Spark Apprentice. At this stage, spiritual energy is condensed into a solid core, mastering the shaping of basic elements."

Small fireballs, water shields, and wind blades are all basic skills.

First-ring wizards are relatively low-level in the Holy Blood Tower system, needing the protection of a mentor and lacking the ability to survive independently.

But one thing is certain: a first-ring wizard has already solidified their mental power and can resist the backlash from low-level potions.

Motu nodded.

Akino's finger moved up one space.

"Second Ring, Rune Wizard. The hallmark of this stage is inscribing the first innate rune, which allows for the instant casting of low-level spells."

At the same time, the physical body began to undergo initial elementalization, such as fiery skin, frost-like touch, and lightning-patterned body.

Second-circle wizards are recognized as official wizards in the Tower of Holy Blood, authorized to conduct independent research and experiments, entitled to apply for resources, and obligated to perform tasks assigned by the tower.

Her fingers continued to move upwards.

"Third Ring, the Spellweaver. Constructs third-ring spell models, such as Blizzard, Pyroblast, and Gravity Field."

At this stage, wizards can begin to manipulate space and time. This is not true manipulation, but rather the creation of a space that can be accelerated or slowed down, giving them a certain advantage within that space.

Third-ring wizards are typically city guardians, capable of building their own mage towers.

"Fourth Ring Road, Morning Star."

Akino's voice softened a little.

"The soul transforms into a star core, and the radiation field suppresses lower-level rings. Morning-level wizards can physically traverse the void and travel between planes. Wizards of this level are already the core combat force of major powers and the vanguard of plane colonization."

"Fifth Ring, Silver Moon. Sixth Ring, Rising Sun."

Akino stopped and looked at Motu.

Motu was silent for a few seconds, then asked:

"What level were those legendary wizards who imprisoned the God of Blood and used him as the foundation to build the Tower of Holy Blood?"
