The path to becoming a football legend began with being ousted from Carrington by Manchester United.
Chapter 13 This is just the beginning
Can De Gea stop Lin Yi? Of course not.
Young Lin Yi has a big heart; his composure is as high as A-, and he is not a spineless coward who would falter at a crucial moment.
Facing an empty Manchester United penalty area, Lin Yi made a slight adjustment and delivered a delicate shot. The ball skimmed along the grass, passed under De Gea's arm, and rolled successfully into the net.
In the final minute of regular time, Lin Yi scored again against Manchester United, completing his hat-trick and making the score 3-1.
Lin Yi's goal completely dashed Manchester United's hopes of equalizing, and his outstanding performance helped the team secure the Community Shield.
"Before the game, Sir Alex Ferguson didn't seem to think Lin Yi was a talented player worth treasuring. I wonder if he regrets it now."
"This was supposed to be our rising star, but now he's been handed over to Manchester City. Someone at the club should be held accountable for this."
"A Chinese teenager, shining in England, single-handedly defeated the invincible Manchester United, making his name known to the world: Lin Yi!"
"After today, English football has gained another talented young player—Lin Yi from the Far East!"
"I am now incredibly excited for Manchester City's new season. The attacking duo of Lin Yi and Aguero gives us endless possibilities."
"At the age of 18 years and 115 days, Lin Yi became the youngest player in the history of the Community Shield, including its predecessor, the Charity Shield, to score a hat-trick, and he has etched his name into the history of the Community Shield forever."
"That's incredible. Lin Yi's record is unprecedented, and I believe it's highly likely that it will never be surpassed. He's so young. I really can't imagine that there will be a player younger than 18 years old who can score three goals in a Community Shield match in the future."
The outcome of the match was no longer in doubt. During the few minutes of stoppage time, all the commentators were talking about one person: 18-year-old Lin Yi.
"Bang!"
In a Manchester house, McGuinness, who was watching the game, kicked over his coffee table, scattering beer cans and cigarette butts all over the floor.
Unable to bear the commentator's excessive praise of Lin Yi any longer, McGuinness turned off the TV, sat blankly on the sofa, and cold sweat poured down his forehead.
Sir Alex Ferguson sat on the sidelines, his face expressionless, quietly watching the Manchester City players celebrate their victory.
After a long while, Ferguson called his assistant: "Call the Glazer steward and tell that idiot McGuinness to get out of here immediately, I mean immediately! Get him as far away as possible before I get back to Carrington. I don't want to see him again."
Soon, the awards ceremony was ready, and captain Kompany led the Manchester City players onto the podium.
"Lin, come here! With me!" Kompany beckoned Lin to his side, and the two of them held up the uniquely designed prize shield together.
Fireworks celebrating victory were set off, and colorful ribbons filled the sky. Lin Yi held his first adult team competition trophy, smiling exceptionally brightly.
As the players left the field and passed through the interview area, Lin Yi was instantly surrounded by all sorts of cameras and microphones.
"Lin, as the best player of this match, what would you like to say to the fans, especially to Manchester United who gave up on you?"
Lin Yi originally did not intend to give an interview, but a reporter's question piqued his interest.
Lin Yi stopped, turned to face the camera, and slowly said, word by word, "This is just the beginning!"
After saying that, Lin Yi pushed through the crowd and left, leaving the reporters with a lot of questions.
Does this statement imply that Manchester City will win more titles in the future, that a hat-trick is just the beginning, or that revenge against Manchester United has only just begun?
Perhaps Lin Yi's words were meant to be a triple entendre, and no one knows the answer yet.
A luxurious bus carrying Lin Yi and his teammates, along with the newly won championship shield, slowly departed Wembley Stadium and embarked on their journey home.
After the excitement, all that's left is exhaustion.
Lin Yi planned to take a nap on the way to recover his energy, but he had only dozed off for a short while when he was woken up by the person next to him.
When Lin opened his eyes, Kompany was sitting next to him at some point.
"Vincent, remember the metal lockers in the locker room?" Lin Yi, a severe morning grumpiness sufferer, reminded his captain. "Unless you have something important to say, don't blame me for going too far."
"You brat, you want to beat me up?"
Seeing that Lin Yi's fist was clenched so tightly that his knuckles were cracking, Kompany involuntarily swallowed and quickly changed the subject.
"Um, I really have something to do! Don't go back to the dorm, come with me!"
"Go with you? Where to?"
Kompany feigned mystery: "Don't ask around, I'll give you a surprise later."
Lin Yi wasn't having it. He reached out and grabbed Kompany's neck with his right arm, asking impatiently, "Translate for me what 'surprise' means?"
"Ouch! Ouch! You little bastard, you hit me way too hard!" Kompany, who was almost out of breath, dared not hide it any longer and had no choice but to tell the truth.
"Gareth Barry was injured and couldn't come to London with us, but he's already prepared a celebration party in Manchester to welcome you newcomers. You have to attend; it's a Manchester tradition."
Lin Yi asked, somewhat puzzled, "Isn't the tradition that newcomers have to shine the shoes of the veteran players?"
Kompany said angrily, "That idiot Tevez is just picking a fight because he's in a bad mood. What era are we living in? How can such a bad habit still exist? He's completely ruining our reputation."
He then solemnly told Lin Yi, "Garres saw your brilliant performance and, to show how much they value you, they specially changed the party location to Chinawhite Manchester."
"Manchester's most upscale nightclub, known for its luxurious Asian-inspired decor, featuring many Chinese elements such as lanterns. As you can tell from its name, 'China White,' this place was specially chosen for you."
It's clear that Kompany is a seasoned nightclub regular; he speaks about it with great expertise.
But Lin Yi's attention was drawn to another word.
"Them? Didn't you say Gareth Barry? Which 'them'? Who else?"
Kompany replied with a dismissive tone, "Gareth doesn't know anything about organizing things. He was just in charge of making the connections. The ones who really put this together were our two die-hard fans. You've definitely heard of them."
"Guy Ritchie, a great British director, have you seen his masterpiece, Barrels of Two Smoking Barrels? It's very interesting."
"Liam Gallagher, lead singer of Oasis, hailed as the godfather of Britpop, do you like Oasis's songs?"
Lin Yi nodded slowly: "I've seen Crazy Stone and heard of Penicillin."
