Doomsday Plan Special Envoy

Chapter 14 That's...our ship!

Boat?!

Jiang Yan jumped out of bed instantly. He quickly glanced at the time; it was a little past eight o'clock in the evening.

I slept for about three hours.

He hadn't taken off his clothes while sleeping, so he got out of bed and followed Su Muyun to ask about the situation.

"How much further?"

Su Muyun quickly replied, "I spotted him at 3 nautical miles away, and now it should only be about 2 nautical miles away. Their fishing boat is very small and hardly shows up on the radar."

She continued, "I just started the anchor winch, and the anchor should be out of the water now, but it might be too late to warm up the engine."

Jiang Yan then went directly to the captain's cabin and started the electric pre-fuel pump.

The larger boat does indeed have a much greater horsepower than the smaller fishing boat, but it takes time to start.

Normally, this type of medium-sized fishing boat needs to be preheated for about 5 minutes before starting, otherwise it is easy to malfunction.

The small fishing boat is very close; we'll probably be right next to it in five minutes.

"Should we warm up first? Or start right away?" Su Muyun looked at Jiang Yan, only to see him open the cabinet and begin to put on his combat uniform and helmet.

"No, it starts normally. I've shown you the steps. I'll go take a look."

Jiang Yan put on his gear, with a square-headed baton strapped to his left waist and an arrow box with about a dozen arrows hanging from his right waist.

He carried a bow on his left shoulder and held the middle of a spear in his right hand.

In less than a minute, he was fully armed and went up to the second-floor deck, looking toward the direction of the small boat displayed on the radar.

Jiang Yan had his own considerations.

It's the first day of the apocalypse, so social order shouldn't have completely collapsed yet, and the people on the small fishing boats might not be vicious thugs.

He can communicate with small boats over long distances and use drones to deliver food and water.

If they were delayed by just a few minutes, the Nautilus would be fully operational, and the small fishing boats would have no chance of catching up with them.

In comparison, starting a large ship directly without preheating carries a greater risk.

Improper operation can easily cause piston rings to jam, or cause wear and cracking of moving parts, or even, if you're unlucky, lead to cylinder seizure.

He absolutely would not allow any possibility of problems with the ship.

During the apocalypse of the Yi Yang, it would be terrible if a ship broke down at sea. Jiang Yan had no repair experience, and there would be no rescue ship to tow them back to shore.

At that point, they would have no choice but to take advantage of the darkness to board the speedboat behind them and retreat back to shore, forced to abandon a large amount of precious supplies on the ship.

After weighing the pros and cons, Jiang Yan still had more faith in his own abilities.

He was never afraid to interact with people, especially during the apocalypse.

Standing at the edge of the deck, he looked out at the pitch-black sea.

After the scorching sun sets, this sea area unexpectedly bursts into vibrant life.

The wind rose and the waves surged, sweeping away the deathly silence and the sweltering heat.

In the turbulent, murky dark sea, fish and shrimp that had suffocated during the day floated in the shallow waters.

As the water temperature drops at night, a large number of predatory and omnivorous fish are attracted to the surface and feed voraciously, creating a scene reminiscent of a koi pond in the scenic area, with constant splashing sounds.

"Get the transport drones ready, load them with food and water, and drop some off for them later," he said, turning back to Su Muyun in the captain's cabin.

Su Muyun immediately ran back to the storage compartment on the first floor: "Okay, I'll give them some compressed biscuits and water."

With modern technology, compressed biscuits are considered the best source of energy, with half a pound providing over a thousand calories, equivalent to six or seven bowls of rice.

The transport drone has a payload of 30 kilograms, enough to feed several adult men for a long time.

About three minutes later, Jiang Yan spotted the small fishing boat with its fish-attracting lights flashing. It looked only seven or eight meters long, which explained why the radar on board couldn't detect it.

He was also wondering why the small boat was heading straight for him.

Finding a ship in this vast ocean is basically like finding a single drop of water in a basin.

Coincidence?

He didn't quite believe it.

Jiang Yan took out a powerful flashlight, aimed it at the fishing boat a hundred meters away, quickly swept the light back and forth, then kept it lit and motionless, repeating this cycle.

The meaning of the light signals is simple: "There are people here, stop" or "I'm here, I see you."

At night at sea, when there is no radio or machinery malfunction, a powerful flashlight is a common communication tool.

The old captain and crew must know what they're doing. Jiang Yan saw that they could sail a small fishing boat this far, so he figured they weren't novices. He felt reassured and started sending signals with his lights.

Soon, the fish-attracting lights on the opposite fishing boat flashed three times, paused, and then flashed three more times.

Urgent help needed.

Jiang Yan returned to the captain's cabin, took out a megaphone, and shouted into the distance:

"Stop, small boat ahead!"

"Speak your mind if you have something to say, otherwise leave!"

After being called twice, the small boat finally slowed down, and then a semi-electronic voice came from the old loudspeaker.

"Is this Boss Jiang on the 'Nautilus'? This is Zhang Shun. Wang Da is injured, and we don't have any medicine on board. Your ship should have some, right? We want to board and rescue Wang Da; he's in critical condition!"

Jiang Yan recognized the voice; it was Captain Zhang.

He also remembered who Wang Da was; he was the second mate in the shipping team he had recruited.

As agreed, the shipping team was supposed to board the ship this morning, but Jiang Yan was determined not to let them board. So, he paid them a penalty for breach of contract this morning and ordered some food and water to be delivered to their hotel.

He had instructed Captain Li Defu and Wang Da and Wang Er that something was wrong today, and told them to stay in the hotel and not wander around.

They had gone to great lengths, and Jiang Yan never expected that they would appear at sea with Captain Zhang Shun.

Although they were acquaintances, Jiang Yan clearly couldn't let them board the boat. There were at least four or five adult men on the other side, which was far too dangerous.

And Wang Da was injured...

In a post-apocalyptic environment, injuries are most likely caused by being scratched by zombies, which carries an extremely high risk of infection.

He couldn't possibly put people at risk of infection on the ship.

Therefore, Jiang Yan refused.

"No, Captain Zhang, I know there's been a zombie outbreak on the shore. I'm not sure if you guys have the virus, so I can't risk the lives of everyone on board. You can't get on the ship."

"However, I will send you some medicine, food, and water, and try my best to help you."

"Tell me, what kind of injuries does Wang Da have?"

Jiang Yan ended Captain Zhang's request with a question, interrupting any potential entanglement.

"But……"

On the small fishing boat, a young man's expression suddenly changed. He looked at Captain Zhang Shun beside him and said, "Dad, that's our family's boat."

Captain Zhang Shun grabbed his son and gently shook his head, saying, "They've rented it out. It belongs to them for the duration of the lease. Don't say anything more."

He glanced back at Wang Da on the bed. Wang Da's foot had been pierced by a steel bar, and he could only wrap it with a cloth to stop the bleeding. The brown scabs had now stuck to the cloth.

Captain Zhang Shun used a loudspeaker to call out to the other side:

"Wang Da's foot was pierced by a steel bar, a penetrating wound. The daytime temperature is too high, and there wasn't enough time to treat it. It might be infected now; we need antibiotics!"

Jiang Yan, who was on the boat, waved to Su Muyun and instructed her, "Go get iodine and hydrogen peroxide, as well as antibiotics, ceftriaxone and metronidazole. Also get tourniquets and bandages. Take as many as you can, we won't need them for now."

"it is good."

Su Muyun ran quickly to the medicine storehouse and took the medicine according to Jiang Yan's needs.

There weren't many oral antibiotics available, but she still took several boxes as Jiang Yan requested in order to save the person.

Finally, everything was packed into a small box and delivered by drone to the fishing boat on the other side.

Without antibiotics, the anaerobic bacteria in the wound would multiply rapidly, and Wang Da estimated he wouldn't survive until dawn.

Jiang Yan specially wrote a small note on how to treat the external injury. If you follow his instructions, there is a certain chance that you can save Wang Da.

The premise is that Wang Da was only pierced by a steel bar in the sole of his foot, and not bitten by a zombie or anything like that.

Thanks!

After receiving the two boxes of supplies, Captain Zhang expressed his gratitude through a loudspeaker. He then stopped the ship, lowered the anchor, and watched the "Nautilus" gradually disappear into the distance, a hundred meters away.

"Zhang Chuan, lend me a hand and help me treat my brother's foot."

Wang Er rushed to the bedside after taking the medicine out of the box. His brother's lips had turned white and his consciousness was becoming blurred.

If this isn't dealt with soon, it'll be all over.

The crew immediately sprang into action, except for Captain Zhang Shun's son, Zhang Qiming, who stood on the deck, staring blankly at the beautiful white-bodied, red-bottomed fishing boat that was sailing away.

That is……

Our family's boat.
