The Legend of the Fishermen of Sicily
Chapter 3: Whoever gets glared at dies!
Leo was undeterred and insisted on going to Marzamemi.
How is that possible?
What kind of constitution do I have?
This isn't just a matter of where you work and where the business goes bankrupt... it's like whoever gets slapped by your glare will die.
The driver did not try to stop them and drove them to the abandoned shipyard.
As darkness fell completely, the surroundings became pitch black, creating an eerie atmosphere.
Although it was already summer, Leo still shivered a little when he got out of the car—thinking that the environment looked too much like a secret base of some gang.
"Solberto doesn't live in the village anymore. The factory has been abandoned for a while, but there should be some supplies inside. You can stay there tonight. It's safe around here. The only danger is those damn mosquitoes. If you want to go back to Syracuse tomorrow morning, remember to go to the tobacco shop before 6:30. It's the place I just pointed out to you. Tell the owner you're looking for Aesop Castelli." After saying a sentence with more letters than all their conversation that night, Aesop grabbed the mosquito bites on his face and drove off.
Leaving the truck filled with the pungent smells of seafood, engine oil, and coffee, Leo cautiously walked forward, and soon a vague factory came into view.
The factory was ridiculously large; the two large doors alone were much taller than the stone buildings on either side. I tried pushing the doors open, and surprisingly, they were easy to open.
The space that comes into view can be described as enormous. There is no wall directly opposite the main entrance, allowing access to the outside world, where you can see palm trees and the shimmering sea under the moonlight.
Aesop said there were daily necessities in the factory, so Leo patiently searched and found a simple wooden bed with a mat on it behind a wooden door not far from the main gate.
The space has a similar height to a normal house, with an area of about ten square meters. There are obvious signs of human habitation, but it looks like it has been abandoned for a while.
After a long day of running around, Leo had neither the mood nor the energy to find another place to stay. He plopped down on a mat, took out the bread he had bought on the way, took a few bites, and began to make plans for the future:
The place I'm seeking refuge with isn't local, and the shipyard has gone bankrupt... so there's no point in staying in Marzamemi.
However, he decided to stay in Sicily for a while and find the truck driver he had just met early the next morning to return to Syracuse.
After making his next plan, Leo lay back and fell asleep, ending his long day.
But as soon as I fell asleep, a pale blue light appeared before my eyes, and then my consciousness became clear.
[The host has identified a base of operations; system evaluation in progress...]
[Open view – facilitates vigilance; dilapidated building – provides camouflage; built by the sea – ensures unobstructed escape routes]
Overall Rating: Excellent
[Congratulations, host! The mission to establish a foothold has been completed!]
[Host: Leo Volpe]
[Identity: Anonymous]
[Faction: 0]
Leo suddenly opened his eyes.
The "base" was determined so easily?
The blue light in front of me flickered a few times, and several new lines of text appeared below the panel.
Your base has been rated as excellent; a special reward is being distributed...
[Congratulations, host, you have received the skill reward - Precision Strike!]
[Precision Strike: Your attacks have begun to have 'accuracy'. Current effect: Close-range attacks are unerring; throwing trajectories are stable.]
[System Note: On the road to becoming a Godfather, you'll inevitably encounter some 'obstacles,' such as thugs trying to steal your territory, troublemakers, or people sitting in positions they shouldn't be in. The most efficient way to deal with these 'obstacles' is—to strike them dead cleanly and decisively!]
[Please strive to increase your influence and acquire more abilities.]
Leo thought to himself, "This skill looks pretty awesome. In a game, it would be a headshot lock-on move against a boss." But the next second, he suddenly sat up:
"No... what would I do with this ability? This is reality! Not a game!!"
......
Leo is a very adaptable person.
He slept through the night and accepted the fact that he was on the path to becoming a godfather, and changed his plans.
The "base" has been established and has received extremely high praise. Can we find such a good place to develop in other towns?
It's estimated that it would be difficult to find a company in Sicily that could withstand Leo's "mystical" attacks... It would be better to stay in Marzamemi, build a base, and "start from scratch" instead of causing trouble for others.
But the question is, will Uncle Sorberto agree?
This is his shipyard...
Leo decided to go to the village to see if he could contact the old man and then make further plans.
Leaving the small room, the first thing you see is the seaside scenery.
The rising sun casts an orange-yellow ribbon across the horizon, and as time passes, that ribbon spreads to even more parts of the blue sky and the sea.
When Leo was "disturbed" by the rumbling of his stomach, he was astonished to find that he had actually watched the entire sunrise.
I've seen the sunrise at Rio many times, but I'm usually busy taking photos and videos, and I also check my WeChat Moments or surf the internet. There are too many attractions and temptations, so I don't really focus on appreciating the scenery.
After enjoying his new, slower-paced life for a while, Leo left the abandoned shipyard. Besides trying to contact his Uncle Sorberto, he also needed to buy some food since he had run out of bread.
The village was very pristine, with no trace of tourism, so the shops were likely concentrated in one place. He headed towards the tobacco shop.
Marzamemi is located within the Syracuse province.
Syracuse was once one of the most important Greek city-states on the Mediterranean coast, so the small coastal fishing village of Malzamemi has a strong Greek flavor.
The houses are all built with earth-yellow stone bricks, and the doors, windows and decorations are mostly blue and white.
When Leo saw villagers along the way, he would smile and nod at them, but the villagers would look at him warily and act as if they were ready to turn around and run away at any moment.
Loud bangs could be heard from both sides from time to time—the sound of doors closing one after another.
Leo even caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye of a mother picking up her child and running away.
The commotion along the way reminded Leo of the warning the merchant father and son had given him yesterday—in Sicily, it's incredibly difficult to integrate into the local life, let alone build your own power base.
However, Leo optimistically consoled himself:
"Give them some time, they'll definitely accept me, don't rush it."
But at that very moment...
[You have received a mission: Show your fangs]
[Mission Description: The host has identified a base, but the surrounding population is unaware of your presence. In the Godfather's dictionary, being unseen is equivalent to not existing. The host is requested to conduct a high-profile display of force within the area to establish authority.]
[Quest Reward: Reputation +1]
