I materialized a sci-fi fortress in a magical world.
37. Senior, it's been a long time!
"Phew~ I'm going to see my senior now, I need to get ready properly."
The next morning, Luo Yue looked at the clothes the boss had picked out for her and was caught in a dilemma.
He slept soundly last night. The annoying "little mosquitoes" were probably afraid of the newly installed two-dimensional foil and didn't dare to bother him. The bloody scenes of murder didn't leave him with any psychological trauma.
Anyway, it's not like we've met for the first time.
Small mountain villages and towns were never peaceful places in the past...
"Let's go with this one. It looks more mature. I can't let her still treat me like a little brother, can I?"
Luo Yue chose a very formal black coat, which, combined with his tanned skin from years of hard work, made him look like he had just come out of the mountains to dig coal.
He didn't think there was anything wrong with it, and went to meet up with Captain Doss.
"Uh... why are you dressed like that?"
"Isn't it nice? This is my most presentable coat."
Doss frowned, speechless at Royo's fashion sense, then waved for the city guards' carriage, blatantly using a public vehicle for private purposes, and leisurely made its way to the south of the city.
Walking down the street, Doss suddenly said:
"Lemire is a good girl, warm-hearted, kind, and very caring."
"Huh?"
"She used to be my subordinate, so naturally I wanted her to have a good life. But the [Hunter of Laws] is not a good place. It sounds glamorous, but you not only have to deal with those crazy dark wizards, but you also have to do some dirty work that can't be seen in the light of day."
Luo Yue was surprised that he would suddenly bring this up, and for a moment he didn't know how to respond.
Then Doss continued:
"They are, after all, the Grand Duke's people, so I can't say too much. I can only give you an unverified rumor—it's said that if a woman gets pregnant, she has to withdraw from the relationship."
Luo Yue understood what he meant and quickly waved his hand awkwardly.
"Oh...it's not what you think about my relationship with my senior."
Doss didn't ask any further questions, but simply smiled without saying a word, and then changed the subject:
"I heard that Lemir seemed to have made a splash again yesterday. This will draw even more attention to her, whether from her enemies or her superiors, so you'd better hurry..."
To avoid this awkward topic, Luo Yue had no choice but to admit that he was present yesterday and witnessed the whole thing.
After listening, Doss showed a slight surprise:
"Those rebels actually sent out a mage? That's really going all out. Luckily, we were prepared in advance, otherwise they might have succeeded."
"They have very few mages?"
"Strictly speaking, there are quite a few, but this matter is somewhat complicated, so I can only give a brief overview..."
Doss then gave Royo a brief explanation of the current situation.
"So, the power of the dark wizards is far greater than I imagined, and they've already become one with my Purple Lily School? Then why haven't I noticed anything?"
Luo Yue was somewhat surprised by this conclusion; it was so different from what he had witnessed yesterday.
Doss continued to explain:
"That's because of the Grand Duke's protection. You might not know this, but the Grand Duke is already a sixth-tier [Warrior]. He's been planning to break through to the seventh tier all these years and has even established an organization called [Hunters of Law]. Those black wizards generally don't bother him."
On the other hand, it's also because they're not very interested in our poor, remote area. If you've been to other parts of the empire, you'll know that people laugh at us as country bumpkins who've never seen the sea...
Of course, these dark wizards aren't all of one group. Just like you legitimate mages, they're divided into large and small factions, each backed by different forces. They lack a unified goal, so although they cause chaos everywhere, they rarely achieve significant scale.
Luo listened attentively, then asked:
"Who are these people supporting the dark wizard behind the scenes?"
"Who knows? Other schools of thought? Foreign powers? Even those nobles within the empire who harbor malicious intentions? It's all possible... Our duchy is relatively peaceful and harmonious thanks to the Grand Duke, but the rest of the empire... well, never mind, I'll stop here."
Doss shook his head, stopped the conversation, patted Royo on the shoulder, and earnestly advised:
"I'm telling you all this so you can understand Lemir's situation. She saved several of my men, and I have nothing to repay her with..."
"Understood, I will try my best to persuade her."
Luo Yue nodded vigorously. More than anyone else, he hoped that his senior could go back to how she used to be and live a peaceful and happy life.
........................
The carriage swayed and rattled through most of Maple Leaf City, taking more than an hour before finally stopping in front of a mansion that looked like a winery.
There was no sign at the entrance, but two guards in black trench coats stood watch, seemingly not intending to hide the fact that this place was special.
Doss led Royo closer and explained their purpose to the guard, but the guard looked at Royo with suspicion and sized him up.
"You're Royo? Captain Lemir mentioned you, but you don't look like a newborn puppy. You look like an old ox in a field..."
"Ahem~ My senior isn't good with words; she describes people based on her impressions."
"Alright, let me check first. Weapons and other prohibited items are not allowed here."
Luo Yue generously raised his hand, allowing the other party to examine him thoroughly. He even had his wrist held so that the other party could use their mental power to check his magic power.
In this place, even the guards are extraordinary individuals who have awakened magical and spiritual powers...
"Hmm~ A newly trained first-tier mage... not much of a threat. Come with me."
Royo then bid farewell to Doss and followed the guards into the 'winery'.
Inside was a small military camp. You could see a training ground with dummies, bundles of crossbows in the corner, and even a broken ballista. Several people who looked like craftsmen were tinkering around it.
From behind a door that resembled the entrance to an underground wine cellar, several clear magical fluctuations emanated, indicating that someone was casting spells below, possibly in a training ground or similar facility.
Luo Yue was taken to a five-story building, and then to the door of an office on the second floor, where he heard a guard knock on the door.
"Captain Lemir, I have a surprise for you."
An impatient response came from inside the door:
"A surprise? That had better be true. If it's just some impatient joke, then you're in trouble..."
As she spoke, the door opened, and Luo Yue instantly felt a fragrant breeze waft towards her, followed by a soft, warm body embracing her tightly.
"Junior, my junior, you've finally arrived!"
Luo Yue gave the guard who had led the way a grateful look, then gently put his arm around his senior and whispered in her ear:
"Senior, it's been a long time."
