Mr. Death in the Steam World

Chapter 58: The Group of Four Finally Reunited

Emily was somewhat puzzled, but still answered truthfully:

"Yes, what's wrong?"

"I already have a plan." Moen straightened his collar.

"Go downstairs to the living room and wait for me. Give me half an hour, no, twenty minutes will be enough."

She blinked, her disbelief clearly written on her face, but seeing Moen's determined look, she finally nodded and turned to walk towards the stairs.

Fifteen minutes later.

Emily sat on the sofa in the living room, listlessly twirling her hair with her fingers.

Hearing footsteps on the stairs, she looked up and saw Moen coming down the stairs.

His body was noticeably dirtier than when they parted, and his hands were outstretched forward, as if he were holding something unseen.

"Here, your clothes."

Moen walked up to her and handed her the "air" he was holding.

Emily paused for a moment, then reached out and felt a cool, smooth fabric.

"It really is it!" A surprised smile spread across her face. "Detective, how did you do that?"

"This is the detective's secret."

Moen smiled slightly, his tone nonchalant, as if finding a completely transparent garment was nothing more than a piece of cake for him.

Emily puffed out her cheeks, clearly dissatisfied with his answer, but Moen wouldn't budge, and no amount of pressing him would change anything.

"Fine, fine, I won't tell you then."

She carefully folded the unseen garment, held it close to her chest, and then looked up at Moen.

"Anyway, thank you. Would you like to stay for dinner? Our chef is quite good."

"No need!" Moen replied without hesitation.

He had spent the entire afternoon in this manor filled with traps and now all he wanted was to get back to his safe and cozy office.

"I have other matters to attend to, so I won't bother you any longer, Miss Emily. If you or your family need anything else in the future—"

"I'll definitely come to you first!" Emily replied with a grin.

Moen nodded, gave her a slight bow, and then turned and left through the door.

Emily, clutching the transparent dress, watched Moen's retreating figure hurry across the lawn, around the fountain, and disappear into the night at the manor gate, and giggled.

"Oh, this detective is really interesting," she said to herself.

"But he actually has 'Raine's quill pen' in his hand. Could he also be a student at the academy? I've never seen him before..."

She lifted the transparent dress in her arms, tilted her head and thought for a moment, then her eyes suddenly lit up.

"I wonder if Xiao Feifei knows him."

......

The night breeze, carrying the coolness of the river, swept over him as Moen walked home, silently making a decision in his heart.

Before accepting a commission in the future, always make sure to ask the client if their home has any hidden traps or contraptions.

However, counting the hard-earned twenty-five gold pounds in his wallet, his mood improved again.

I doubt only he could come up with such a method.

When he saw his dusty coat, a brilliant idea struck him.

Since Emily's clothes are dustproof, why not just fill the whole room with dust?

So he pushed open the doors one by one, infusing magic into the dust in the air.

Under his magical properties, they fell from the air at a speed dozens of times faster.

The floor was completely clean, which meant there was nothing wrong with the room. On the contrary, if there was a clean spot in the room, the clothes must have been there.

To be honest, dealing with each room one by one would be too much for an average magician. Only Moen, with his fifty-two magic loops, dared to do it this way.

Even so, he was still drenched in sweat and nearly collapsed.

Finally, after casting a spell on a room on the third floor, a dressing mirror appeared exceptionally clean.

The invisible garment was draped over the mirror.

Actually, if you think about it carefully, the method itself is not complicated, but only Moen can execute it.

A vast reserve of magic power, the right magic attributes, and a good mind are all essential.

Just as Moen was feeling smug about his earnings for the day, the badge Arthur had given him in his pocket suddenly became slightly warm.

He infused it with a wisp of magic, and Arthur's voice immediately rang in his ears:

"Marcus, breaking news, another member of our team has returned to Kansas."

Are you free tomorrow afternoon? Let's have a meal together, the four of us, as a formal meeting.

Another group member?

Moen remembered that Arthur had mentioned that there was a fourth person in their group.

Judging from Arthur's limited descriptions, he seems to be a member who is skilled at creating all sorts of novel gadgets.

What kind of person would she be?

A clever craftswoman, a female magician who could make Arthur give a helpless, wry smile, perhaps around the same age as Fils, perhaps a little older, more composed, or—

Emily's smiling face appeared in his mind without warning.

Emerald eyes, a cunning gaze, and clever little touches throughout the entire villa…

Moen's body trembled involuntarily.

"How could that be?" he muttered to himself, deliberately raising his voice as if trying to convince himself.

"She's clearly not a magician; there's not a trace of magic emanating from her, right? Haha, impossible, impossible..."

He unconsciously quickened his pace, as if trying to leave this absurd thought behind.

However, fate is often unkind.

The following afternoon.

"Cheers!!!"

Everyone raised their glasses and drank together. Looking at Emily, who was somewhat drunk, Moen sighed, rubbing his forehead, feeling quite troubled.

"Hehe~ Mr. Detective~ hiccup, what are you doing? That's so ungentlemanly, how annoying~"

Phils hugged Emily tightly as she tried to cling to Moen, her face equally helpless.

"Mr. Marcus, can you explain why my Emily acts like she's been bewitched whenever she sees you?"

Arthur patted Moen on the shoulder.

"You've got some skills, Marcus. You've already captivated Miss Manro the moment you met her. You have a touch of my charm in my younger days!"

Looking at the chaotic group in front of him, Moen felt like he had boarded a pirate ship.

He finally understood the true value of Emily's "fresh and quirky ideas" that Arthur had mentioned.

But to be fair, it's not bad at all.

He looked down at his hands, then looked up at everyone, and suddenly laughed.

A detective who can't solve cases, a dashing priest, a top student who doesn't have enough credits, and a wealthy young woman with a passion for handicrafts.

This combination may not be strong, but it will undoubtedly be very interesting.
