Mr. Death in the Steam World
Chapter 160 Arrogant Fool
Chapter 160 Arrogant Fool
"We're almost there."
After several days of trekking, Gregory stopped and pointed ahead.
The distant horizon was completely swallowed up by the crimson light.
In the deepest part of that light, a huge black shadow could be vaguely seen, towering and upright, its outline blurred and distorted, like a door leading to an abyss.
That is the core of the seal, the location of Behemoth.
Gregory withdrew his gaze, about to say something, when suddenly a series of hurried footsteps came from the snowstorm ahead.
He suddenly raised his hand, signaling the team to stop.
Everyone simultaneously enters combat mode.
Gregory paused for a moment, then made his decision.
"Follow them."
He turned around and glanced at the line behind him.
"Whatever their purpose is, our purpose is to thwart it."
"Whoever they are chasing, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and we have no reason not to go and see."
The group changed direction and followed the footprints left by the men in black robes.
Moen walked at the front of the group, his "Eye of Death" half-open, tracking the footprints and residual magic.
On the snow-covered ground not far away, space suddenly began to distort.
Moen's pupils contracted, and his right hand was covered with scales again.
Gregory also drew his longsword, and the battle priests quickly formed ranks, the light of spells gathering at their fingertips.
A figure fell out from the center of the spatial distortion.
He was a young man, wearing the uniform of the Faculty of Arts, his face as pale as paper, and he was trembling all over.
Moen knew that face all too well.
Langdon Clive.
Gregory frowned and turned to look at Moen.
"Do you know him?"
"We know each other, we know each other very well."
Moen retracted his dragon claws, walked over, and squatted down in front of Langdon.
"Don't come any closer—don't come any closer—"
Moen waved his hand in front of him, but there was no reaction.
He frowned, reached out and grabbed Langdon's chin, lifting his face up.
Langdon's eyes were wide open, his pupils were dilated, and his eyeballs were bloodshot. He looked like he had been scared out of his wits by something.
"Clive," Moen called out, but there was no response.
He called out again, but there was still no response.
Moen's patience finally ran out.
He released Langdon's jaw and slapped him across the face.
“Pah!”
The crisp sound of a slap echoed through the snow valley.
Langdon's head was knocked to one side, and a red handprint quickly appeared on his face.
However, the effects of classical mechanics are still quite significant.
His unfocused gaze gradually cleared.
"Marcus?"
"What are you doing here—where am I—"
"Shut up," Moen interrupted him, his tone cold and hard. "I ask, you answer."
Langdon opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but looking into Moen's cold eyes, he swallowed his words back.
He looked around, examined the traces of the battle, and quickly came to a conclusion.
He looked up at Moen, his eyes filled with disbelief.
"You—you killed them?"
Mohn did not answer the question.
"I'll ask you one more time, why are you being hunted down by the Truth Society?"
Langdon's mouth opened and closed, and his eyes began to flicker.
"Clive, I'll ask you one more time."
"Why are you being hunted down by the Truth Society?"
Langdon lowered his head, staring at the snow, his lips trembling, unable to utter a single word for a long time.
Moen stared at him expressionlessly.
Gregory stood to the side, arms crossed, watching coldly.
Phils walked over and stood beside Moen, glancing at Langdon's disheveled appearance with undisguised disgust in her eyes.
The students also gathered around; some looked disdainful, some gloated, and others were simply there to watch the spectacle.
Langdon felt those gazes and lowered his head even further.
Moen finally lost his last bit of patience.
He reached out and grabbed Langdon by the neck, lifting him off the snow.
Langdon's feet left the ground, his face flushed red, and he instinctively tried to pry Moen's fingers off, but Moen's hands were as firm as iron clamps.
"I'm asking you one last time."
Moen's voice was as cold as the wind and snow of the far north.
"Was it you who orchestrated the Truth Society's invasion of the academy this time?"
Langdon's pupils trembled.
His mouth opened and closed, and he made muffled sounds in his throat, unable to say anything.
But judging from his performance, Moen no longer needed his answer.
Moen released his grip, and Langdon fell onto the snow, clutching his neck and coughing violently.
"I knew it, I should have known. Only you could do something like this, Clive. You did a fucking good job."
Langdon burst into tears, crying, "I—I don't know—"
"I didn't know they were members of the Truth Society—I really didn't know—"
"I just feel—I feel this event is unfair—"
"I'm the head of the Faculty of Arts, I should get the best resources, I shouldn't be assigned to that kind of place—"
"So—I contacted outside help—"
"They said they would help me, they would help me get a good record—"
"I didn't know they were members of the Truth Society—"
"I really don't know————"
He knelt in the snow, his hands braced on the ground, his shoulders shaking violently.
The sound grew louder and louder, eventually turning into a sob.
"I didn't mean to—I just—I just wanted to win—"
The snow valley was deathly silent; no one sympathized with the fool.
Moen stood in front of Langdon, looking down at him.
His face was covered in tears and snot, his eyes were red and swollen, his lips were chapped, and he looked extremely disheveled.
He suddenly found it somewhat ridiculous.
This person was once the top student in the Faculty of Arts, the third young master of the Clive family, the one who bossed him around in the classroom and mocked him in the hallway.
Now, he kneels in the snow, like a clown, crying uncontrollably.
"Clive," Moen said.
Langdon looked up at him, his eyes blurred with tears.
"Do you know how many people are now stuck at this record because you wanted to win just once?"
"Do you know that because you wanted to win, the Truth Society stormed into the academy, attacked the Akashic Records, and dragged everyone's bodies and souls into this hellish place?"
"Do you know that because you only wanted to win once, a demon of original sin is currently breaking free from its seal?"
"If we can't stop Beelzebub, do you know how many people will die?"
"The entire city of Farwinter, the entire North, the entire kingdom—everyone will die."
"Including you."
Langdon's mouth opened and closed, his face ashen white.
"I—I don't know—I really didn't know this would happen—"
"6
"You don't know," Moen repeated the word, "You know nothing."
"You don't know what truth is, you don't know what evil is, and you don't know what your 'outside helpers' are up to."
,
"You're just a fucking arrogant idiot!"
