Mr. Death in the Steam World

Chapter 156 Special Envoy of the Order

Chapter 156 Special Envoy of the Order

Several middle-aged men in priestly robes sat around a long table, clutching parchment in their hands, their expressions increasingly solemn.

One of the elderly men with gray hair looked up, saw Moen walk in, and frowned.

"This is not a place for servants. Get out."

"High Priest," Moen did not step back, but instead took two steps forward, "I have important matters to report."

"Important matter?" The old man's tone was clearly impatient. "What important matter?"

Moen raised his hand and pointed to the northwest.

"That red light on the horizon is a sign that the demon has broken free of its seal."

The old man's pupils contracted slightly.

"Moreover," Moen continued, "this is no ordinary demon. To be able to do this, one must at least be at the level of a demon lord."

Several high-ranking members of the cult exchanged glances around the long table.

The high priest stared at Moen and slowly spoke, "How could a lowly servant like you know that's demonic power?"

“I’ve seen it before,” Moen said without changing his expression. “In my hometown in the South, a demon once descended upon us.”

""

"I was there at the time and saw it with my own eyes."

""

This explanation isn't perfect, but in this emergency, no one has the time or inclination to investigate whether a servant's past experiences are true.

The high priest remained silent for a moment.

"you're right."

She turned around, her gaze sweeping over every face at the long table.

"This is a sign that the demon is about to break free of its seal."

""

After he finished speaking, the room fell into a deathly silence.

"We didn't discover it before because the enemy had concealed it."

"Now that they're no longer trying to hide it, we can see it for ourselves—this is the work of the Truth Society."

A younger priest, his face ashen, stammered, "The Truth Society? The demons have broken free? How is this possible—how could there be anything like this in Winterfell?"

"Winter City has always existed."

The high priest interrupted him, his voice weary, "This city has been part of the seal since its founding."

"Why do you think the 'Ring of Eternal Winter' chose to set up its headquarters in this godforsaken place? Is it for missionary work? Or for ascetic practices?"

He shook his head, his tone bitter.

"No, it's to guard the seal."

Several high-ranking members of the cult remained silent around the long table, clearly aware of the fact.

The young priest swallowed hard, his voice trembling: "What...what kind of demon is that?"

The high priest sighed.

Beelzebub.

"Beelzebub, the demon who rules over gluttony."

"Specific details are unknown, but what is certain is that each of the original sin demons is an existence of the same rank as the twelve Olympian gods."

Moen's pupils trembled.

The same rank as the main god? Wouldn't that mean he's on the same level as Sharon, the daughter of the Black Moon, and Hesfil, the god of fire?

How am I supposed to crack an egg?!

He took a deep breath and forcibly suppressed the fear in his heart.

There's a bunch of classmates standing behind him. If even he shows fear here, then everything is really over.

"Is there no other way?" Moen turned his gaze to the High Priest. "We can't just sit here and wait to die."

The high priest remained silent for a long time.

"According to the records, Beelzebub's seal has been severely damaged over the generations of its transmission."

"The Truth Society took advantage of the situation to break the seal completely."

"If the seal is really broken," he didn't finish his sentence, but everyone present understood what he meant.

If Beelzebub were to truly descend, Winterfell would be reduced to ruins in an instant, followed by the entire north, then the entire kingdom, and eventually the whole world.

No one can stop it unless the gods return to earth.

"You're right," Moen's voice rang out in the silent room. "We have no chance of winning."

The high priest looked up at him.

"But so what?" Moen's tone was calm. "Staying here is waiting to die, and taking a gamble is also dying. Since we're going to die anyway, what's the difference?"

'

His gaze swept across the faces of the cult's leaders, then settled on the students behind him.

"At least if we give it a shot, there's still a chance to survive."

A bitter smile appeared on the high priest's face.

"You're just a menial servant, but you've got guts."

""

"We old folks, having lived to such an old age, are not as good as you."

""

She closed her eyes, finally made her decision, and said sternly, "Issue my order: all combat personnel of the Order shall assemble immediately!"

'

Several senior executives stood up at the same time around the long table.

High Priest

"Don't try to persuade me," the high priest interrupted them, raising his hand. "If even a lowly servant dares to fight so desperately, how can we, who have been protected by Lady Frostwinter for so many years, possibly cower in the background?"

Seeing that things were progressing as planned, Mo En breathed a sigh of relief and looked at his classmates behind him.

"Fellow students, the upcoming battle will be very dangerous, and this is no joke."

"If you want to stay here and wait for the results, no one will blame you."

,

"after all,"

He paused, a self-deprecating smile appearing on his lips.

"Even I am nothing more than an ant in the face of such a being."

,

The students looked at each other in bewilderment.

Soon, a boy stepped forward.

"I'll go with you."

His voice trembled slightly, but his eyes were firm.

"Since staying here is just waiting to die anyway, we might as well take a gamble."

Then came the second, the third, and the fourth.

No one chose to stay.

Phils stood beside Moen, a slight smile playing on her lips.

"Look, no one is afraid."

Moen glanced at her without saying a word, but the smile on his lips betrayed his feelings.

He hadn't felt this exhilarating feeling in a long time.

After transmigrating, he spent most of his time struggling to survive, for Clara, for the agency, and for all sorts of messy commissions.

But now, standing on this wasteland about to be devoured by demons, looking at those around me who, despite their fear, still chose to stand up.

He suddenly realized that this was what he had been looking for all along.

"High Priest." Moen turned around. "I went to the northwest to scout ahead. I'll lead the way for the advance team."

The high priest glanced at him and nodded.

"We need people at the base too," Moen continued. "We can't deal with that demon head-on, that's unrealistic. We can only try to stop the ritual and delay the time it takes for the seal to break."

"Alright." The high priest didn't say anything more, and took a snowflake badge from his waist and handed it to Moen.

"This is the cult's token. Wear it, and you will be the cult's special envoy. The cult members you encounter on the road will cooperate with you."

Moen took the badge and pinned it to his chest.

“There’s one more thing,” he said. “I built a safe zone in the far north, with dozens of residents and a few… priests, but now it’s not safe there either.”

"I'll send someone to bring them to the base; I need you to make the arrangements."

The high priest nodded.

Moen turned around and looked at the boy from the Elemental Academy.

"What's your name?"

"Lucas".

"Lucas, go back to the safe zone and bring everyone to the base. Be careful on the way."

Lucas nodded vigorously, then turned and ran out of the room.

Moen turned his gaze away and looked out the window at the crimson sky.

"Let's go, we don't have much time left."

""

The crowd filed out.

Soon, the cult's combat personnel assembled at the entrance of the stronghold.

Chloe's snowflakes warmed slightly in Moen's arms, keeping out the chill of the wind and snow.

He led Phils and his classmates into the snowstorm.
