Mr. Death in the Steam World

Chapter 12 After the Fierce Battle

"Sir, your sister is currently undergoing emergency treatment—"

A doctor in a white coat walked out of the emergency room.

"Now we need you to explain the situation."

In the early hours of the morning, Moen, covered in blood, rushed into the city hospital carrying the unconscious Clara, causing quite a commotion.

He had no way of explaining where he came from, after all, what he had experienced tonight was too bizarre for ordinary people.

As a second-best option, he pulled out a student ID from his pocket and handed it to the doctor to prove his identity.

"Kansas..." The doctor examined the ID. "Contact your advisor. Please tell me his name."

Without much thought, Moen simply gave Professor Pip's name.

Before long, Professor Pip arrived in a hurry.

With a grateful look in his eyes, he resolved Clara's medical issues in just a few words.

Sitting by Clara's bedside, Moen held his sister's right hand tightly.

Her long silver hair matched the color of the hospital bed perfectly, but her small face was smeared with gray.

He himself had only recently transmigrated, and his encounter with Clara was at most a fleeting one.

But he always felt indebted to the girl in bed.

After all, he had taken her brother's body, and he would most likely never be able to explain it to her.

The door to the ward opened, and Professor Pip walked in.

"...You really got rid of that flower?"

Professor Pip's voice sounded somewhat unbelievable.

Moen nodded and truthfully recounted how the Flower of the Other Shore was destroyed.

Of course, he omitted the specific details, only saying that he solved the problem of the flower using a special method.

As for what that "special method" was, Moen didn't say, and Professor Pip didn't ask further.

After listening, he remained silent for a long time, his eyes reddening, and finally he let out a long sigh.

"Leonard...you can finally rest in peace. Someone has avenged you."

He took off his glasses and wiped them, his eyes filled with both shock and gratitude as he looked at Moen.

"I will remember this kindness."

Moen nodded, but his voice involuntarily lowered.

"Professor, I've found Professor Leonard's body, but—"

That night he left the body on the barge at the dock, without having time to deal with it.

Judging by the timeline, they should have already been discovered.

Pip sighed.

"It's not your fault, child, it's all that damned flower's fault."

No, I mean—

In reality, Moen was worried that the sudden appearance of a corpse would cause unnecessary commotion and implicate him.

After listening, Professor Pip waved his hand to reassure him.

"The college had already reported Leonard's disappearance, and I had dealt with Sheriff Hanks of the police station several times."

"I will handle this matter. Closing the case based on the reasoning that the missing professor died by accidental drowning should be easy."

He stroked his beard and smiled at Moen.

"Just remember this—this has nothing to do with you from beginning to end."

In this way, Moen no longer had any worries.

After finally shedding his last burden, his eyelids suddenly felt heavy.

After a whole night of fierce fighting, his body and mind were already exhausted, even though he was dead.

He was so tired that he lay in bed for a full day and night before waking up.

After confirming that his sister was still unconscious but not in mortal danger, the second thing Moen did was to contact Professor Pip.

The two met in the college office.

"Professor, I have two things I'd like to ask for your help with."

Pip waved his hand:

"You've avenged my best friend, so don't be shy, just ask."

Moen took a deep breath and made his long-considered request.

"First thing, Professor, for reasons I cannot disclose, I need a large number of live animals, and for that, I would like to join your laboratory."

"It's nothing. Just come and check in with me once you've recovered."

Moen breathed a sigh of relief. With Professor Pip's words, even if he didn't get any good essence, at least he didn't have to worry about survival.

"Then the second thing, Professor, that flower stayed in my house for a long time, and I dare not go back."

"Now my brother and I are penniless and have nowhere to stay."

"I would like to ask you to help me find a place to stay. It doesn't have to be fancy, just a place for my sister and me to live."

Professor Pip paused for a moment, then burst into laughter.

"You little rascal, you're quite the schemer. Did you find out beforehand that Leonard owns a shop here with me?"

"what?"

Moen swore he knew nothing about it, but it seemed like it was a good thing for him.

It turns out that after Professor Leonard went missing, Pip helped him take over a store.

Business was booming before, but Pip lost interest in running it and soon closed down.

"I wanted to sell it, but I haven't been able to find a suitable buyer."

Professor Pip handed the key to Mohn.

"Now you can use it, I'll just charge a token rent."

"Well... I'll waive the rent for the first three months; consider it a personal favor to you."

"Oh, I see you don't have any money, right? Here, I'll lend you some to tide you over."

"No need for interest, just remember to pay me back within six months."

Professor Pip pulled a wallet from his pocket, inside which were several gold pounds.

Moen was overjoyed and quickly took the keys and wallet.

"Thank you, Professor!"

This isn't a university professor; he's the kind of person who gives you whatever you ask for. He's practically Pip Alpha!

"Don't thank me, just do a good job."

Pip Dream waved his hand.

"By the way, have you decided what you want to do? You can't just sit around and live off your savings."

Moen gave a mysterious smile; he had thought about this question long ago.

For the next period of time, Moen stayed in the ward, and Professor Pip would occasionally bring some snacks and fruit to visit him.

Taking advantage of this rare moment of free time, he immersed his consciousness into his mind, touching the dark blue light in the Death Note.

That is the blue essence left behind by the flower of the other shore, "Vibrant Fragrance".

A warm, gentle power surged into his body, unlike the intense white and green essences he had encountered before. Instead, it flowed slowly like warm water, permeating his limbs and bones.

【Vibrant Fragrance: Your recovery speed for injuries, health, etc., is greatly increased. You can share this effect with others, but the total amount is limited.】

[Description: Let's take a break in the embrace of the fragrant flowers]

The effects of the essence are immediate.

The wounds inflicted on my body by the spider lily were now scabbing over and falling off at a visible speed, revealing new skin.

This level of resilience is enough to amaze even the best doctors in the hospital.

A more noticeable change is that the remaining lifespan displayed in the Death Note has changed.

Originally, there were only four days left, but after absorbing the blue essence, the time was extended by a full ten days.

As for why this change occurred, Moen is not yet clear.

Perhaps it's because the blue essence itself contains more vitality, or perhaps it's a bonus that comes with the [Vibrant Fragrance] ability.

In short, he gained ten extra days of life, which is always a good thing.

More importantly, he can also share this recovery effect with others.

After confirming that he had fully recovered, he immediately allocated all the recovery effects to Clara.
