Doomsday Reboot: My Superpowers Absorb Everything

Chapter 29 The Cornerstone of Reconstruction and the Shadow of Wandering

When the water tank at the purification station began to freeze over, Lin Ye was finally able to get out of bed and walk. His steps were still a little unsteady, and the scar on his right hand, like a winding purple vine, stretched from his finger bone all the way to his elbow. It was a mark left by the backlash of the "Devouring" seal energy, and it still felt numb when touched.

"Slow down." Su Ya supported his arm. The girl's complexion was much better than before, and the wound on her shoulder had scabbed over. However, the green energy was still weak, and the vines she was growing still had a faint yellow tinge. "Grandpa Zhou said you need to rest for at least another half month."

Lin Ye smiled, his gaze passing over her shoulder and landing on the busy figures outside the purification station. Zhao Feng was leading the Iron Hoof Alliance in reinforcing the defenses, dismantling nearby abandoned steel bars and building a half-meter-high low wall around the purification station; Li Hu had woken up at some point and was directing the survivors of the stronghold to clear the ruins, moving usable planks and sheet metal to the purification station in preparation for building new sheds; Lin Xi was squatting in the corner, holding a ceramic basin containing rice seeds salvaged from the stronghold's fields, using small stones to create a small seedling area.

"Grandpa Zhang..." Lin Ye's voice lowered. They had secretly transported Grandpa Zhang's body back and buried it on the hillside behind the purification station. There was no tombstone, only a wild chrysanthemum planted on the grave, which Lin Xi had specially found.

"Alliance Leader Zhao said that when spring comes, he will erect a stone tablet for Grandpa Zhang," Su Ya said softly. "Use the best bluestone and carve the words 'Guardian' on it."

Lin Ye nodded, but felt a weight on his heart. He walked to Li Hu's side and looked at the supplies being moved to the purification station—most of them were seeds and medicines that had been salvaged from the stronghold, along with a dozen rifles and a box of bullets, which Shi Tou had risked his life for.

"The remnants of Black Wind Stronghold can't have gone far." Li Hu's arm was wrapped in bandages, and it still throbbed slightly as he spoke. "Once you're better, we'll go and wipe out their stronghold!"

"No rush." Lin Ye picked up a piece of sheet metal, still scorched from the stronghold's granary. "The most important thing now is to survive."

His senses slowly spread, covering a five-kilometer radius around the purification station. In the valley to the west, the Bone Corpse King's energy reaction had completely disappeared, leaving only residual viral mist slowly dissipating; the chemical industrial zone to the south remained dangerous, and after Mo Yu's death, the radiation there seemed to have become even more chaotic; while in the abandoned factory to the east, he detected several familiar energies—the Black Wind Stronghold members, about thirty or so, hiding inside licking their wounds, one of whose energy reactions bore the characteristics of a one-eyed dragon, presumably the one-eyed strongman who led them.

"They're at the old cannery site on the east side," Lin Ye told Li Hu. "But we can't touch them now."

Although Li Hu was unwilling, he knew that Lin Ye was right. The purification station only had about twenty people who could fight. Zhao Feng's injuries had not yet healed, and Lin Ye and Su Ya needed to rest. Fighting head-on would only result in more harm than good.

Over the next few days, the purification station gradually came back to life. Zhou Ming repaired the water tank's filtration system, and clear water was reintroduced, allowing everyone to drink clean water; Su Ya used her remaining energy to grow several cold-resistant vegetables, which she planted in a corner of the purification station, adding a touch of green to the gray ruins; Zhao Feng sent out scouts to find out the distribution of mutants in the vicinity and set up a safe zone around the purification station.

Lin Ye's body was slowly recovering. He circulated the "Devouring" seal every day, and the dark purple energy was no longer as violent as before, becoming gentle and restrained. It carried a faint warmth as it flowed through his meridians, seemingly resonating with Su Ya's life energy in some strange way. The pendant on his chest would occasionally glow, gradually absorbing and cleaning away the residual energy impurities in his body.

That morning, Lin Ye was practicing condensing energy into a dagger when Zhao Feng suddenly came over, his expression grave.

"Something's happened." Zhao Feng handed Lin Ye a piece of blood-stained cloth embroidered with a black raven totem. "The scouts found this in the valley to the north, along with the bodies of three Iron Hoof Alliance soldiers. Their deaths were done in the same way as those of the Black Raven Hall."

Lin Ye's fingers tightened around the fabric. The remnants of the Black Crow Hall were indeed not all dead, and it seemed they had their sights set on the Iron Hoof Alliance.

"Mo Yu is dead, so who can command them now?" Lin Ye asked.

"Mo Yu's master is an old man called 'Old Crow.'" Zhao Feng's voice was chilling. "It's said that the guy can control corpses, and he's even more sinister than the Mo Lin brothers. He used to be behind the scenes, but I didn't expect him to come out in person now."

Lin Ye's senses immediately extended to the valley to the north. The energy there was chaotic and chilling, mixed with the aura of humans and the ferocity of mutants, as well as a kind of... nauseating energy like rotting flesh, clearly the work of Elder Crow.

"They're digging something." Lin Ye frowned. "There are energy fluctuations in the valley, like something... buried underground."

Zhao Feng's expression grew even more grim: "The valley to the north used to be a biochemical laboratory, but it was sealed off after the apocalypse. Could there be something more dangerous inside than the blood crystal?"

This conjecture silenced both of them. The Black Crow Hall had already become neither human nor ghost due to the Blood Crystal; if they were to obtain anything from the bio-lab, the consequences would be unimaginable.

"We must stop them." Lin Ye stood up, dark purple energy gathering in his palm. "Even if we can't defeat them, we can't let them dig it up."

Zhao Feng nodded: "I'll take a team with you. Old Zheng will guard the purification station, and Su's safety is in her hands."

Before setting off, Su Ya placed a bracelet woven from vines on Lin Ye's wrist: "This is a warning vine; it will heat up when danger is encountered." She infused the bracelet with her green energy, and a small white flower bloomed on the vine. "Xi'er and I are waiting for you to come back."

Lin Ye patted her head, then looked at Lin Xi standing at the door, clutching sunflower seeds in her hand, a warm feeling welling up inside him. He turned and followed Zhao Feng, his military dagger gleaming coldly in the sunlight.

The valley to the north was even more eerie than I had imagined. The bottom was covered with a thick layer of decaying leaves, which felt like walking on mud, making a squelching sound. A faint stench of decay filled the air, along with a pungent odor similar to formaldehyde.

"Be careful." Zhao Feng lowered his voice, gripping his military knife. "This place is really weird; even my metal powers are being interfered with."

Lin Ye's senses were also suppressed, allowing him to detect movement within a ten-meter radius. He gestured for everyone to slow down, while he walked at the front, dark purple energy flowing between his fingertips, ready to respond to any unexpected situations.

As they ventured deeper into the valley, they indeed spotted the Black Crow Hall members. There were about fifty of them, all dressed in black cloaks, frantically digging at the ground with shovels and hoes. An old man leaning on a bone cane stood nearby, his hair and beard completely white, but his face was wrinkle-free, his skin like dried leather—it was Elder Crow.

The excavated ground revealed a metal plate engraved with complex runes, emitting a faint blue light, clearly the entrance to the biochemical laboratory.

"They're about to open it!" Zhao Feng whispered. "Should we make a move?"

Just as Lin Ye was about to nod, he suddenly sensed a strong aura of danger. He abruptly grabbed Zhao Feng and dodged to the side—where they had just been standing, more than a dozen white bones suddenly emerged, piercing the sky like spears.

"Hehehe..." Old Crow's laughter was like the howl of a night owl, sending chills down one's spine. "Since you're here, don't hide. You'll be good nourishment for my 'bone slaves'."

As he spoke, hundreds of corpses suddenly emerged from under the decaying leaves on both sides of the valley. Some were human, some were mutants, all connected by white bones, standing up like marionettes, their empty eye sockets flashing red light.

"It's bone slaves!" Zhao Feng's expression changed drastically. "That old bastard has turned all the corpses in the valley into puppets!"

The bone slaves roared and charged forward; there were simply too many of them to kill. Although Lin Ye's dark purple energy could purify their bones, as soon as one was destroyed, a new one would immediately take its place, like an endless tide.

"Attack Elder Crow!" Lin Ye shouted, condensing dark purple energy into a spear and hurling it towards Elder Crow.

Old Crow brandished his bone staff, and a dozen bone slaves blocked his way. The energy spears pierced through the bodies of the bone slaves, but were blocked by the black energy emitted by the bone staff and dissipated into the air.

"It's useless." A strange smile appeared on the old man's lips. "Within my bone domain, your energy will only be weakened."

Lin Ye's heart sank. He could feel his dark purple energy being devoured by some cold, sinister force, making its circulation increasingly difficult. Zhao Feng's metallic powers were also suppressed, and the luster of his military knife grew dimmer.

Just then, the metal plate at the laboratory entrance suddenly made a "crack" sound, the blue light grew brighter and brighter, and an even more dangerous energy surged out from underground, carrying an aura of destruction.

"Success!" Old Crow laughed excitedly. "The bio-weapon 'Rotten Dragon' is about to awaken! This world will become the domain of our Black Crow Hall!"

The metal plate opened completely, revealing a bottomless pit. A gigantic claw covered in slime emerged from the pit and slammed onto the ground, causing the entire valley to tremble. Next came a head covered in tumors, resembling both a lizard and a snake, its eyes gleaming with a scarlet light.

"It's a Corrupted Dragon!" Zhao Feng's voice was filled with despair. "The ultimate weapon of the bio-lab!"

The rotten dragon let out a deafening roar, spewing black viscous liquid that landed on the bone slaves, instantly corroding them into pus. Its gaze swept over Lin Ye and Zhao Feng, filled with icy killing intent, clearly regarding them as prey as well.

With the Corrupted Dragon in front, the Bone Slave behind, and the treacherous Old Crow in between, Lin Ye and Zhao Feng found themselves in an unprecedented predicament.

Lin Ye stared at the rotten dragon's head, now covered in tumors, then glanced at the Iron Hoof Alliance soldiers fighting valiantly beside him. Suddenly, he gripped his military dagger tightly. He knew that he might truly not make it out today.

But he didn't regret it. At least, they had thwarted the Black Crow Hall's plot, and at least, the people in the purification station were safe for the time being.

Dark purple energy ignited within him once more, this time not for slaughter, but for protection. He looked at Zhao Feng, a resolute smile on his face: "Brother Zhao, how about going crazy with me this once?"

Zhao Feng was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter, the scar on his face contorting into a ferocious expression: "Good! I've never been afraid of death in my life!"

He raised his saber and dagger simultaneously, charging towards the despairing darkness, facing the corrupted dragon and the bone slave.

At the distant purification station, the warning vine on Su Ya's wrist suddenly became scalding hot, and the small white flower withered instantly. The girl's face turned deathly pale as she looked towards the valley to the north, green energy trembling violently in her palm.

Lin Xi clutched her clothes tightly, her small face filled with fear: "Sister Su Ya... Brother..."

Suya took a deep breath, shook her head vigorously, and channeled green energy into the ground beneath her feet: "No. He promised us he would come back to plant sunflowers."

The battle in the valley continued, the roars and explosions intertwined like a tragic war song. In a corner of the purification station, a sunflower seed, nurtured by Su Ya, was braving the cold wind, quietly peeking out its tender green shoot.
