Mice dominate the dungeon
Chapter 23 Let's Speak Like Humans!
With the beetle tribe's finishing work completed, the soldier rats who had stayed at the second branch to help out had already returned to the rat park.
The soldier rats enjoyed a comfortable rest period.
As soon as Big Ears returned to the scout's hut, it plunged headfirst into its den. From the initial reconnaissance to the final cleanup, it hardly stopped moving.
Fortunately, it doesn't have to fight on the battlefield, otherwise it would have been exhausted and died outside the park long ago.
The big-eared creature, nestled in its warm little nest, fell into a deep sleep.
In contrast to Big Ears, Iron Claw, who manages supplies, has had absolutely no rest during this period.
The spoils brought back from the beetle tribe, though fewer in number than those from the burrowing ants, were more diverse in variety.
Those silly bugs brought everything to the tribe: all sorts of strange wood chips, the corpses of other insects and monsters, and even bizarre food they made themselves...
The sorting alone kept Iron Claw so busy and dizzy that he almost picked up his knife and chopped up the remaining beetles...
If it weren't for Twitch stepping in to comfort it and giving it a batch of unfamiliar mice it had never seen before!
According to the boss, this is a new breed of rat he just bred!
I assigned it to it as soon as I came out of the baby care corner!
And let it command these low-ranking rats at will, saying that these little guys are full of energy and there's no need to worry about tiring them out; just use them as much as you can, as long as they don't die from exhaustion!
Iron Claw didn't believe it at first, until it saw the brand-new cow-horse-rat.
These mice were only a head taller than them, and while they were quite robust, there was nothing particularly remarkable about them.
But when it was put to work, Iron Claw slowly began to feel something was wrong.
These little mice will never carry just one bag of supplies if they can carry two, and they can also do a variety of not-too-complex physical tasks at the same time.
Iron Claw even stared at one of the cow-horse rats, wondering how many times it could carry it back and forth in one bite.
When Iron Claw reached the twentieth or so rounds, his eyes were already tired, so he gave up counting.
When the other support mice had finished eating and were ready to rest in the evening...
The group of cows, horses, and rats even went out of their way to find it and asked it energetically if it had any more work to do.
Iron Claw:.......?!
It clearly didn't have a whip, so why do these little guys feel like there are rats behind them constantly waving iron whips?!
Finally, Iron Claw told them to rest first, and that they would be assigned tasks together the next day.
Instead of going to sleep, the cattle and horses each found something to do and got to work...
Fortunately, the arrival of this group of cow-horse-rat mice greatly reduced the workload of other logistics mice and also greatly improved Iron Claw's speed in integrating resources.
Of course, it wasn't just Ironclaw who was shocked by this group of cow-horse-rat; even the frontline soldier rat Korgan had a very direct experience of it.
In the morning, it got up on time to go to the training camp for training. At that time, it saw the group of new mice running back and forth between the Beetle Tribe and the Mouse Park to transport supplies.
Even when it's time for them to sleep at night, you can still see them training in the [training camp]!
Korgan was stunned several times, and in the end, he silently picked up his battle blade and practiced a few more sets...
As usual, just before going to bed, Korgan slowly walked into the empty barracks.
While observing the cows, horses, and rats venting their excess energy in the [training camp], he quietly sat down by the campfire to warm himself up.
The temperature in the park is low at night, and Korgan likes to let his body relax a bit before going to the training camp.
Not long after.
Korgan brandished his weapon in a posture that defied the physical structure of a rat, holding his battle blade.
This peculiar sword-wielding motion enabled it to achieve numerous remarkable feats on the battlefield.
At first, Korgan was extremely uncomfortable with this movement, feeling as if all the bones in his body were about to shatter when he practiced it.
Once it has passed through the most agonizing period of labor pains, this strange posture makes it even stronger, allowing it to inflict more damage on enemies while consuming less of its stamina.
Even so, Korgan still has not fully mastered this extremely special technique.
It doesn't know when it will fully master it, so it can only keep training and gradually increase its familiarity with the skill.
Korgan leaned on his battle blade, his two paws trembling, panting heavily.
It has completed ten sets of training...
Korgan, who had just gotten a short rest, suddenly noticed a figure standing at the edge of the training camp.
His body was pale gold, and he wore a crown.
"Hello, boss!" Korgan immediately straightened his back and greeted Tucci.
After a long day of work, Tucci took advantage of his free time in the evening to relax in the park and take a look around.
"Okay, sure."
"...Huh?!"
Tucci, who had just casually responded, suddenly felt something was wrong. He seemed to have missed the swarm of rats. He then turned sharply to look at Kolgan!
"You can talk now?!"
They were speaking the common language of adventurers on the ground... which surprised Twitch.
"Hmm!" Korgan nodded, panting, "Boss is acting strange... Can't you talk too?"
"When did you start talking?" Tucci asked again.
"It must have been a few days ago," Korgan said, tilting his head back and thinking for a moment after recovering.
"It happened while I was reading a book. I don't know how, but I suddenly started reading the words aloud, and after that, it felt like I could speak..."
Korgan spoke fluently, having essentially mastered a common language on Earth.
Tucci continued to ask questions as he made his judgment.
"What book?!"
"It's the one you gave me before," Korgan said, gesturing in front of Tucci.
It was that strange knife-swinging motion.
After watching for a while, Tucci finally recalled the book corresponding to the gesture Korgan was waving.
What Kolgan called a "book" was actually just a few thin sheets of paper.
It was accidentally found by other mice on the corpse of an adventurer while they were out.
The booklet records a combat technique used by professional adventurers.
Korgan clearly hadn't fully mastered it; he only performed the movements relatively smoothly.
It seems that adventurers' combat skills may not be suitable for rats, since these things are not meant for monsters or animals.
The reason I gave this thing to Korgan before was purely out of a desire to try it out, and also for a little personal gain...
"No wonder you spoke the common language of adventurers; you must have seen their combat techniques. But I doubt this kind of thing is universally applicable..."
After learning the truth, Tucci was immediately disappointed.
Tucci thought that Korgan had read some wise book, which prompted it to speak. He even considered showing it to the other mice so that they could also start talking.
The result is a manual of combat skills for professional adventurers...
It might be somewhat helpful for a fighting mad rat like Korgan, but it may not be effective for other rats.
Well, since we already know, let's give it a try!
Twitch decided to show all the soldier rats the booklet tomorrow, hoping it would have some effect.
What if...?
