I used Hextech Grinding to become a top student

Chapter 87 The Battle of the Top College Entrance Exam Scorers: Tsinghua and Peking University Admissions Offices (20th Update)

Pretentiousness is a bad habit, but I can't break it anymore.

"You think your performance this time is good enough to get you the top score, right? Then we'll contact you to confirm as soon as your scores are released," said a teacher from the Peking University Admissions Office.

"No, that's not it. My usual monthly exam scores are around 680 or 690. There's still a gap between me and the top scorer. If I'm lucky, I might be in the top ten in the province," Zhang Weiji said. "But there's someone whose monthly exam score is more than 30 points higher than mine. I think if he's not the top scorer, then no one else will be."

"What? More than thirty points higher than you? Are you kidding me?" The Peking University teacher didn't believe it at all. Everyone on our list is already a potential Tsinghua or Peking University student. How could someone be more than thirty points higher? Is there such a person?

"Yes, don't you have any information over there? That person's name is Chen Mu, and I know him very well. You should contact him as soon as possible. Whichever university he goes to, I'll apply to that one too. As for the major, we'll talk about that later." Zhang Weiji revealed important information.

"No, that name isn't on our student list." The Peking University professor flipped through the names on the phone number he wanted to call for a while, and indeed, it wasn't there.

"You know what a genius who suddenly appears out of nowhere is, huh? Run forward, hurry up and make your move, or you'll miss out!" Zhang Weiji said cheerfully.

Everyone present heard it clearly, and Huang Zhong immediately shouted, "The results haven't been released yet, how come someone is already calling? Be careful, it might be a scam call!"

"That's normal. Top-ranked students in the province get attention from Tsinghua and Peking Universities. Don't think that top universities don't need to compete for students."

"If we don't pay attention, others will. What if one of the top scorers goes to Fudan University or Shanghai Jiao Tong University? They'll be devastated. And the University of Hong Kong is also eyeing us, having already snatched up quite a few top scorers." Zhang Weiji shrugged. "It's just that people from small towns like us don't have much exposure to these things. Schools like Yunchuan No.1 Middle School and the High School Affiliated to Sichuan Normal University have all sorts of methods to grab students, including early admission, guaranteed admission, competitions, the Strong Foundation Program, the Qiu Chengtong Mathematics Leading Talent Program, and so on."

We're the kind of kids who were left over after the selection process. We got in through the college entrance exam in our senior year of high school. Some of the really outstanding boys and girls got in in their junior year, and some even got in with national scholarships in their freshman year. Don't underestimate the number of geniuses in a country of 1.4 billion people!

Zhang Weiji is the most authoritative person in this field, while Chen Mu is a complete novice and knows nothing about it.

Before we could exchange more than a few words, another call came in.

Zhang Weiji used the same rhetoric as before, telling Tsinghua University once again that there was a ruthless student at Huai'an No. 1 High School who was sure to be the top scorer this year, and that Peking University was already vying for him. Would I lie to you?

Upon hearing that Peking University was vying for the spot, Tsinghua University immediately jumped on the bandwagon.

Chen Mu was speechless: "Why do you keep bringing me up?"

"Damn, Brother Mu, you don't understand again. I'm doing this for your own good. Don't think that just because you got the top score, you're all set. You're only valuable if others try to take you away. If both schools find out, they'll fight over it. When they're all red-eyed, what about scholarships, one-on-one guidance from academicians and Yangtze River Scholars, the freedom to change majors, competition funds, international exchanges, and the opportunity to give a passionate speech to all the top scorers in the country as a freshman representative at the start of the semester!" Zhang Weiji said, his eyes almost red.

The more I talk about it, the angrier I get. All these good things never seem to come my way!

The number one is not in the same league as the top ten, and the number one in the province is not the same as the number one in the country.

Although each province sets its own exam questions, schools will roughly determine the top scorer nationwide based on the difficulty of the questions from each province. If Chen Mu is as exceptional as he was in the last monthly exam and scores 735, then although he may not be the top scorer nationwide in name, he is practically the one!

"My goodness, just listening to it is already so exciting!" Liu Weice was swallowing hard. No one had ever told him this before.

"Really? You can change your major so easily? I heard it's incredibly difficult to change majors in college!" Jiang Yueyao asked.

"Of course, in normal universities, there are countless students who feel they've chosen the wrong major and can easily switch. Otherwise, the school would be overwhelmed. So, you have to be in the top 5% to 10% of your major in the entire school to be eligible to apply for a major change, and even then, the application might not be approved. But if you're the top scorer in the province, then of course you can be given more chances," Zhang Weiji explained.

"The power of academic geniuses!" Shen Qingyue was filled with longing as she listened. Is this what a prominent figure is like? And not just any ordinary prominent figure. "I've looked up some information. For example, Tsinghua and Peking Universities only admit 98 students in the entire Xijiang Province through the national college entrance examination, and 107 through special programs."

Only 205 people will be recruited in total, while 6,818 people will be recruited nationwide. These are the cream of the crop! There are over 6,000 people nationwide, and to stand out from this group is simply divine.

"That's right, I'm prepared to be a coward there. Brother Mu, have you decided which school you want to go to?" Zhang Weiji asked.

"You bunch of loan kings, the results aren't even out yet, how can you already be so sure? Things are done in secret, it's not good to open the champagne prematurely. I don't think I'll be the top student in the province. Maybe some super genius will pop up somewhere and suppress me." Chen Mu started to jinx himself.

Chen Mu and the others chatted along the way.

Meanwhile, Tsinghua and Peking Universities were in an uproar.

"Someone scored over 720? That's a bit too exaggerated. Since Xijiang Province started having college entrance exams, even in the easiest year, no one scored over 720 without any raw score," said Wang Yucheng from Tsinghua University.

"Yes, but they spoke with such certainty, what if it's true..." another admissions officer said.

As a result, the top students in their respective high schools, such as the High School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University, Yunchuan No.1 High School, Shanyu No.1 High School, and Changnan No.2 High School, were all asked a question when they received calls from Tsinghua and Peking Universities: "Do you know Chen Mu from Huai'an County?"

After several phone calls where the person claimed not to know the person, the admissions office of Tsinghua University was prepared to ignore it as fake news.

However, things took a turn for the better when they arrived at Yunchuan No.1 Middle School.

When Lin Yuchao, the top scorer in the senior year of Yunchuan No.1 High School, heard this name, he was about to say that he did not recognize it.

But recalling my homeroom teacher's words, I immediately remembered.

"I don't know Chen Mu, but I've heard of him in Huai'an County. There's a student there who almost always gets full marks in math and science. My homeroom teacher said he has a high chance of being the top scorer. I just don't know if it's the Chen Mu you're talking about," Lin Yuchao said seriously.

This news came like a bolt from the blue.

This gave Tsinghua University a glimmer of hope; does Huai'an County really have some strong men?

After confirming the news, Wang Yucheng immediately booked the tickets.

"I will personally go to Huai'an County, find this Chen Mu, and watch him check his score. If it is indeed above 720, then this student absolutely cannot be snatched away by those bastards at Peking University!" Wang Yucheng declared domineeringly.

Meanwhile, Lu Jing, the director of the admissions office at Peking University, naturally also had connections at Tsinghua University.

Upon hearing that Wang Yucheng of Tsinghua University was personally going to Xijiang, I immediately determined that the news was true and set off immediately, making sure the protocol was not low.

Otherwise, if they are the director and we are just ordinary admissions office teachers, wouldn't we be considered inferior and have a much higher chance of failure?

Peking University is no less competitive than Tsinghua University. We want this student. As long as we get enough points, we will do everything we can to beat Tsinghua University!
