A top star in the Chinese entertainment industry, but also a Taoist priest.
Chapter 33: Not paying is just freeloading, isn't it?
Tang Yixin was pulled along for a few steps by her, and couldn't help but laugh: "You're so curious about the Taoist priest?"
"Of course," Nazha said matter-of-factly. "It's such a pity we missed the morning's religious ceremony."
The four of them arrived in front of Chen Shouyi one after the other.
Jin Chen spoke first, continuing the question from this morning: "Daoist Master, how did that incense light itself this morning? It lit as soon as you waved your hand!"
Naza also came closer, her deep, large eyes staring intently at Chen Shouyi:
"Yeah, yeah, and that sword too, leaving smoke trailing behind—I thought it was special effects when I watched the video!"
Tang Yixin stood next to Nazha. Although she hadn't witnessed the morning's ritual, her curiosity was piqued by Jin Chen and Nazha's descriptions.
She tilted her head to look at Chen Shouyi, two shallow dimples appearing at the corners of her mouth: "Daoist Master, I've heard them talk about it in such a mysterious way, is it really true or not?"
Jin Chen immediately chimed in, "Of course it's true! I saw it with my own eyes!"
"When you arrived, it was already halfway done," Nazha bluntly exposed. "Chen Yao was the one who watched it from beginning to end, right, Yao Yao?"
Several people turned their gazes to Chen Yao at the same time.
Chen Yao, standing at the very edge, was momentarily taken aback by the sudden attention. But she quickly regained her composure and nodded slightly.
"Yes, the Taoist priest made a whole set."
She spoke in a calm tone, but her gaze remained fixed on Nazha, like a cat eyeing its prey.
Nazha was a little confused by the stare and turned to ask her, "Yaoyao, why are you staring at me like that?"
"It's nothing," Chen Yao said, turning her gaze away.
Ignoring the strange behavior of Chen Yao, Nazha continued to press Chen Shouyi for details about the ritual.
On the other side of the shed, Wanhao and Yao Yichen were drinking water next to the prop box.
With a bottle of mineral water in his hand, the man's gaze swept across the field and landed on the purple figure surrounded by four actresses.
"Is that the Taoist priest we were talking about before?" He nudged Yao Yichen with his elbow.
Yao Yichen followed his gaze and nodded: "I guess so."
As Wanhao screwed the bottle cap on, his expression was somewhat subtle.
A few days ago, when we were having dinner together, Nazha and Jin Chen talked about this Taoist priest, still speaking in the tone of an observer who had heard that he was very powerful.
How come these people have become so familiar with the Taoist priest after only a few days?
"Let's go take a look."
Wan Hao strode off in that direction, and Yao Yichen hesitated for a moment before following him.
As the two approached, Jin Chen pulled Chen Shouyi aside to ask him about swordsmanship.
"What are you all talking about so excitedly?" The man's gaze swept over the women's faces before finally landing on Chen Shouyi. "This must be Master Qingquan, right? I've heard so much about you."
Chen Shouyi nodded slightly and bowed with his hands clasped in a Taoist salute: "May the Heavenly Venerable grant you boundless blessings."
"My name is Jiang Jinfu, just call me Jinfu." Wanhao smiled. "I've heard them talking about you a lot these past few days, they're making you sound like a legend."
"I was merely doing what I could," Chen Shouyi said calmly.
Sett took another half step forward: "Master, since we've run into each other, why don't you take a look at me too?"
Chen Shouyi's gaze fell on Wanhao.
He was in his early twenties, over 1.8 meters tall, with broad shoulders, a straight back, and a dashing face—the kind of person you could spot in a crowd at a glance.
Chen Shouyi glanced at his palm. The life line was deep, the wisdom line was trending well, and his career had taken off early in life.
However, the heart line branches into several shallow and short branches. In particular, there is a horizontal line near the Mount of Apollo, which is faintly dark.
This horizontal line doesn't correspond to emotions, but to temperament. This person has an uncontrollable fire hidden in their temperament.
"Mr. Jiang has had good fortune in his career, achieving fame early on with the help of benefactors," Chen Shouyi said calmly.
"However, you have a fiery temper hidden within you. You can usually suppress it, but once you lose control, it can easily hurt yourself and others."
Sett paused for a moment, then smiled and said, "Master, you mean this? I do tend to get carried away when I play basketball."
Chen Shouyi glanced at him; he wasn't talking about basketball.
"Benefactor, this humble Taoist priest offers you two words."
Sett raised an eyebrow.
"restraint."
Sett paused for a moment: "Restraint?"
Chen Shouyi nodded, but did not reply or say anything more.
Sett was silent for a moment, then nodded: "Okay, I got it."
He took half a step back, the smile returning to his face, but noticeably less pronounced than before. It was unclear whether he had genuinely remembered it or simply found the Taoist priest's words unpleasant.
Yao Yichen watched for a while, then couldn't help but lean forward and ask, "Master, could you please take a look at me?"
Chen Shouyi glanced at him.
To be honest, he didn't recognize this person. He had no recollection of this face in his memories before transmigrating, and he hadn't had any contact with him in the six months since.
Clearly not an important character, but since they've come up here, there's no harm in taking a look.
Chen Shouyi sized up Yao Yichen's face.
His face was nothing particularly noteworthy, but when Chen Shouyi's gaze fell on his brows, his heart stirred slightly.
A sense of melancholy lingered between his eyebrows and the space between his eyebrows. The color was not dark, but the location was peculiar—it was pressing down on his life palace.
This frustration is not emotional, but rather a matter of fate.
This means that this person will soon face a hurdle that is neither too big nor too small. It won't be a bloody disaster, but it will be enough to make him suffer.
"You should be careful lately," Chen Shouyi warned.
Yao Yichen blinked: "Be careful of what?"
"A depressed aura pressing down on the life palace indicates an unexpected disaster in the near future," Chen Shouyi explained. "It's not a major event, but it will cause some pain for a while."
Yao Yichen's expression was somewhat dismissive: "What kind of accident? Can you be more specific?"
Chen Shouyi glanced at him but didn't reply.
He's said enough.
From what Sett just said, he pointed out at least two key aspects: emotional irritability and the people close to him.
On Yao Yichen's side, he also pointed out the unexpected disaster.
Chen Shouyi said no more; if he said any more, he would have to charge. Only those who pay are good benefactors; not paying is just taking advantage of someone else.
The two rough guys, Wanhao and Yao Yichen, came over to chat just to join in the fun.
Moreover, these two have never mentioned offerings of incense or shown any genuine interest in learning from each other since they arrived.
The few words he gave to Wanhao and the reminder he gave to Yao Yichen were already out of consideration for their shared production team.
The reason why Jin Chen and Nazha were examined so carefully earlier was because they were sincere, and also because they are beautiful.
What are these two thinking? Do they really think they can get something for nothing just because of this little bit of friendship?
Chen Shouyi picked up the thermos and took a slow, deliberate sip.
