Huayu 2002, I'm going to dominate the music scene!
Chapter 88 Sales Climax
Song Mo couldn't help but glance at Liu Sijia. Goodness, she really came here to ask questions to maximize traffic.
But he's thick-skinned enough to say without batting an eye, "I met Sister Binbin by chance. Later, when she found out I was preparing an album, she offered to help. Coincidentally, the music video for 'Broken Bridge in Lingering Snow' needed a female lead with presence, so I shamelessly asked her to come."
He paused, then added, "They are all very professional actresses. They were even more dedicated than me when filming the music video. It's my good fortune to have them."
Liu Sijia nodded and didn't press the matter further. She was a smart host; she knew what to ask and what not to ask.
In the control room, several staff members exchanged glances, smiles on their faces, but no one spoke.
"Okay," Liu Sijia checked the time, "Next, we'll hand the time over to Song Mo. The audience has been waiting for a long time and hopes you can sing a song live."
Song Mo thought for a moment, then smiled and said, "It's the height of summer now, so I'll sing 'Summer'."
Upon hearing this, Yang Mi immediately sat up from the sofa.
"Summer" is her favorite song, and she has listened to it on repeat in her head countless times, but she has never heard a live version of it.
She held the radio, her eyes fixed on the small speaker, as if that would make it easier to see.
The intro flowed from the radio; it wasn't as refined as the CD version, but it had a rougher, more realistic feel to it.
Song Mo's voice was there, without any audio editing or post-production, clean and pure, like a summer breeze blowing through the treetops.
"All summer long, I wanted to travel the world with you. The winding mountain roads were like an adventure of love. Your smiling face was my only treat, and I captured that moment with my eyes..."
Yang Mi started humming along, not loudly, but in a terrible way. Her mother thought the neighbor had killed a chicken and couldn't help but peek out from the kitchen. Yang Mi pretended not to see and continued humming.
After finishing her song, Liu Sijia took off her headphones and said into the microphone, "The director told me that the audience is so enthusiastic, the hotline has been overwhelmed, and everyone is asking you to sing another song. Why don't you sing one more?"
Song Mo glanced at her and nodded: "Thank you all for your enthusiasm. I've been in Yanjing for several years now, so I'm practically a Yanjing local. I especially like the song below; it's from my album, called 'Run Away.' Do you have a guitar?"
Liu Sijia paused for a moment, then nodded quickly: "Yes, yes, yes, director, go get one quickly."
There was a flurry of activity in the control room as someone ran to the next room to find a guitar.
Two or three minutes later, a young man came running in, panting, carrying a wooden guitar.
Song Mo took it, tuned the strings, plucked them a few times, and tested the sound.
"Sure," he said into the microphone. "This song, 'Run Away,' is dedicated to everyone who wants to do whatever they want this summer."
The intro guitar sound is completely different from the previous songs with their complex arrangements. Just a guitar, clean and simple.
Song Mo's voice came from the radio, even closer than before, as if he were sitting right across from you.
"We dedicate our youth to that magnificent city behind us, and we pay the price for this beautiful dream..."
Yang Mi leaned back on the sofa, the radio pressed against her chest, and Song Mo's voice came through right next to her ear.
As she listened, she suddenly felt something inside her being touched, a ticklish feeling that she couldn't quite put her finger on.
"I want to elope with you, to the farthest town..."
She closed her eyes, and a picture suddenly popped into her mind: a person running under the moonlight, with an empty field beside them, the wind was strong, blowing her hair all over the place, but she didn't want to stop at all.
"I want to elope with you and become the happiest people..."
Yang Mi opened her eyes, stared at the ceiling, and suddenly whispered, "I also want to elope with you."
She paused for a moment after saying that, then her face turned red.
Just then, my phone vibrated; it was a message from the QQ group.
"Song Mo's live rendition of 'Run Away' was absolutely amazing!"
Another vibration: "I want to set this song as my ringtone!"
He then asked again, "Does anyone know how to set it up?"
Then a few more messages popped up, this time from several boys.
"This song is absolutely amazing!"
"Guys, is confessing your feelings with this song a guaranteed success?"
"Does anyone know the lyrics? I want to write them down."
These past few days, the girls have been dominating the conversation in the QQ group, and the boys have barely been able to get a word in edgewise, even though they've been quietly listening to Song Mo's songs.
Now that "Run Away" has come out, they've all started to emerge. For them, this song isn't for listening to; it's for expressing their feelings.
The line "I want to elope with you to the farthest town" is practically a love confession anthem.
Yang Mi ignored the messages and tapped her fingers lightly on the sofa armrest in rhythm.
The show ended quickly, but Yang Mi continued to play Song Mo's songs on repeat.
Just then, her father, Yang Xiaolin, returned home from get off work, changed his shoes, sat on the sofa, and picked up the remote control to watch the news.
Yang Mi sat next to him, continuing to play Song Mo's songs.
The first song was "Jiangnan." As soon as the xiao (vertical bamboo flute) and guzheng (zither) started playing in the prelude, Yang Xiaolin paused for a moment.
He didn't say anything and continued to change channels to find news.
The second piece is "Luzhou Moon," with the sound of the pipa clear and cool, and Song Mo's voice drifting out from it.
"The moonlight over Luzhou shines on my heart, but you beneath it are no longer the same as you were back then..."
Yang Xiaolin put the remote control down.
"Who sang this?" he couldn't help but ask.
"Song Mo is my idol." Yang Mi's voice was a little louder, with a hint of pride.
Yang Xiaolin didn't reply. He leaned back on the sofa and listened to the whole song. When the chorus started, he nodded slightly.
"This song is good," he said. "The lyrics are well-written and the singing is clear, unlike that one you played last time, what was it called again..."
"Jay Chou," Yang Mi interjected.
"Yes, Jay Chou." Yang Xiaolin shook his head. "What kind of crap is that? He can't even speak clearly."
Yang Mi held back her rebuttal, thinking to herself: Dad, if you knew that Song Mo was called Little Jay Chou, you'd probably be furious.
She didn't say it aloud, but while the iron was hot, she played "Rain on Qingming Festival" and "Broken Bridge in Lingering Snow".
After listening, Yang Xiaolin made a rare comment: "This kid is something else. He writes good lyrics and pronounces words clearly. He's better than those Hong Kong and Taiwan singers."
Yang Mi smiled like a fox and said smugly, "Of course, otherwise why would they be my idol?"
"Hehe, I don't know who liked Nicholas Tse and Jay Chou before." Her father also bluntly exposed her.
Yang Mi blinked her cute eyes, "But right now, my favorite is Song Mo."
Yang Xiaolin ignored her fickle daughter and started reading the news.
Yang Mi glanced at her dad secretly, then sent a message in the QQ group: "My dad just said that Song Mo is much better than Zhou Jielun."
The group chat exploded instantly.
"Does your dad even know anything about music? Jay Chou is the coolest."
"My dad also said that Jay Chou's singing sounds like chanting scriptures."
"My mom said 'Jiangnan' is a nice song, and she even asked me how old the singer is."
"Hahahaha, Song Mo is popular with all ages!"
The group chat immediately became lively.
Song Mo was unaware that he had gained so many fans. After finishing the live broadcast of "Smooth Sailing" on Yanjing Traffic Radio, he did not rest and rushed to various radio stations for live broadcasts.
With this wave of exclusive interviews and radio program exposure, sales of "Pen, Ink, Paper and Inkstone" have reached another peak.
By early August, cumulative sales had exceeded 120 million copies.
