Becoming an adventurer by copying monster abilities
Chapter 39 The Mark
On the way back, we happened to pass a horse-drawn carriage that was transporting goods over a short distance.
After paying a silver coin, Luke once again hitched a ride home.
Sitting on the wooden plank at the back of the carriage, Luke looked at his control panel:
Luke
Race: Human
[Class: Fantasy Walker lv.1]
【Strength: 7】
[Agility: 7]
[Physical Fitness: 7]
【Intelligence: 7】
【Perception: 7】
【Charm: 8】
[Combat Techniques: Gluttonous Slash, Imagination Manifestation, Crimson Rampage, Mystic Dodge]
[Specialties: Ember, Gift of Miracles, Darkvision, Basic Swordsmanship, Basic Shield Mastery]
[Talent: Miracle Fantasy]
[Gluttony Slash Lv.4: Proficient (3/40)]
【Imagination Manifestation lv.2: Beginner (15/20)】
【Crimson Rampage lv.1: Beginner (9/10)】
【Stealth and Evasion lv.1: Beginner (1/10)】
In terms of combat skills, their proficiency has improved to varying degrees once again.
Those crazed goblins are not considered a new type of monster, and Miracle Fantasy did not derive any power from them.
Village Chief Flint should also be considered part of the human faction, and therefore cannot be replicated.
As for the voice in the black mist, he didn't even see it; the miraculous illusion still failed to activate.
The greatest gain from this adventure was, of course, the combat technique he had longed for for so long, which he had finally mastered.
【Stealth and Evasion: Displaces a certain distance, depending on physical attributes and combat skill level】
Luca's current maximum displacement distance is approximately five meters.
Although it's far from the incredible teleportation of the black shadow in the scroll that can travel tens of meters in an instant, it's still enough to be surprisingly effective in battle.
There is no limit to the number of times [Stealth and Evasion] can be used each day, but Luca estimated the discomfort that would occur to his body after using it.
He should be able to use it at most three times before his body reaches its limit.
Moreover, after the third time, he should lose most of his fighting ability and can only use it as a last resort to escape.
Even so, this combat skill is already extremely powerful.
Unless you encounter a defense as impenetrable as that of Village Chief Flint, it's very difficult for an average person to defend against it.
The midday sun was exceptionally intense and dazzling.
The shadow, bypassing the roof of the carriage, fell on Luke's face.
Luca raised his hand to shield his eyes from the scorching sun, his gaze falling on his wrist.
On the skin that should have been clean and bare, there was now a strange mark.
The mark wasn't large; it looked like several pure black blades twisted together, or like a pair of intertwined deer antlers.
It bloomed wildly on his skin, possessing an eerie beauty.
Luke rubbed it vigorously; it wasn't a stain, but rather a deep imprint on his wrist, like a birthmark.
Aside from looking somewhat eerie, the mark didn't cause him any discomfort.
However, Luke knew that this was definitely not a good thing.
It is very likely related to what happened in the Black Hall.
He couldn't help but think of the mysteriously disappeared black finger bone.
He had it firmly in his hand, but it just vanished into thin air.
He had witnessed the village chief Flint swallow the black finger bone, and he was somewhat unsure of himself.
"Could it be that thing has fused with my body?"
...
The second-floor lobby of the Adventurers' Guild was bustling with more professionals than before.
Paul, a staff member, held a roster in his hand and made records by comparing it with the adventurers in the hall.
He would occasionally nod politely to adventurers he knew.
Although some of them looked rather fierce, he greeted them all warmly.
In the eyes of ordinary people, these are all terrifying beings that are not to be trifled with.
But in Paul's eyes, these people are all closely related to his performance.
Soon, he spotted a familiar figure at the entrance on the second floor and immediately greeted him with a smile.
"Mr. Luke, how did this adventure go?"
Inside the room, Luke briefly recounted what had happened in Yharnam.
Paul, who was taking notes, was dumbfounded.
After a long pause, he finally spoke to Luke:
"I'm sorry, Mr. Luke, perhaps I didn't explain it clearly to you earlier. An investigation commission doesn't actually need to go to this extent."
"If the investigation finds that cult members have indeed appeared, you can choose to collect some evidence to complete the mission, and the association will issue an additional cleanup order."
Paul never imagined that Luke alone could take the delegation to such an extent.
He seemed to see his excellent performance continuing to grow, and immediately patted his chest to guarantee it:
"But don't worry, since you've exceeded the target, I'll apply to the higher-ups for an extra bonus for you."
Luke thought for a moment and then recounted the last thing he heard: the mysterious female voice in the black hall.
I'd like to try and see if I can get any relevant clues from the staff.
Although the mark did not have any effect on his body, its presence still made him feel uneasy.
If someone recognizes this thing and mistakes him for a cult member, things could get complicated.
Unfortunately, Paul shook his head, indicating that he did not know.
"The pantheon of Rildran is extremely complex, and even some professional theologians cannot fully understand all the gods."
"Furthermore, some deities have different names in different regions. If you are interested in a particular deity, you can try to learn more about it at a church."
After completing the record of the commission, Paul left the room with the metal plaque that recorded Luke's identity.
Not long after, the young staff member excitedly reported the good news to Luke.
Because Luke performed exceptionally well in this mission, the association awarded him an extra fifty gold coins.
The reward for this commission is a total of 130 gold coins.
"If you find it inconvenient to carry, the association can open a vault account for you to store the gold coins directly in it."
Paul handed the identification badge back to Luke, winking as he did so.
"This is also one of the benefits for honorary adventurers of the association."
Luke readily agreed, bid farewell to Paul, and left the Adventurers' Guild.
Looking at the mark on his wrist, he decided to take Paul's advice and find out what was going on.
There is a church in Twilight, and there is only one.
However, this church does not have a strong presence.
Firstly, the town has a high population turnover rate, making it difficult to retain any loyal believers.
Secondly, the beliefs of the adventurers coming and going are too diverse, making it difficult for any single church to dominate.
Therefore, not many churches are willing to spend a lot of money to establish their foundation here.
The town's church is located in a somewhat remote area near the outskirts of town.
Luke found the address and went there.
Contrary to expectations of a grand and magnificent building, this so-called church looked rather old and dilapidated.
The stone statues in front of the main gate have suffered damage and cracks due to years of neglect.
It can be roughly seen that the stone statue is carved to depict a short man covered in scars.
His hands were bound by ropes, and his expression was filled with pain and pity.
