Becoming an adventurer by copying monster abilities

Chapter 1 I Feel Like an Adventurer

"One, two, three..."

Beside the campfire, Luke put the spoils he had just cut down into his bag.

His hands, still trembling from the recent battle, were throbbing with adrenaline.

The air was thick with the lingering stench of blood, and a dozen goblin corpses, each missing its left ear, lay on the ground.

The bounty for a goblin is 2 silver coins, which is almost a day's wages for a strong adult laborer.

Looking at the three brownish-green pointed ears in the bag, I knew that my food and rent for the next period of time were taken care of.

This decent haul somewhat eased Luke's nervousness about facing these monsters for the first time.

Thinking of this, he sighed softly.

Luke had traveled through time, just one day ago.

It's less about time travel and more like the awakening of some kind of innate wisdom from a past life.

Memories from two completely different worlds merged together.

However, apart from making him mature a little faster, these two memories did not bring any substantial help.

After all, in this life he is just a farmer's son, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, his status will be limited to that of a farmer.

In his previous life, he was just an unlucky guy who had just graduated from university and was run over by a truck before he could even show his skills.

However, something else came along with this memory, flooding into his mind without warning:

Luke

Race: Human

Occupation: None

【Strength: 5】

[Agility: 5]

[Physical Fitness: 5]

【Intelligence: 6】

【Perception: 5】

【Charm: 7】

[Combat Skill: None]

Specialty: None

[Talent: Miracle Fantasy]

Well, he's not even a farmer, since his occupation is listed as "none".

This is what he can suddenly see, like the attribute panel of a low-quality online game from his previous life.

I can probably understand terms like "strength" and "agility".

However, this talent called "Miracle Fantasy" has always been grayed out on the panel, and he still doesn't understand why.

If a miracle had truly occurred, Luke wouldn't have ended up in his current state.

His hometown was suddenly struck by disaster, and as the sole survivor, he was forced to wander to a town on the edge of Sunset Forest, becoming a lowly adventurer.

"Hey, newbie, relax. It's just a goblin hunt, don't always look so gloomy."

Beside the campfire, besides Luke, there were three other people, roasting dry rations and jerky and enjoying them immensely.

The stench around them did not slow down their eating pace at all.

This is the adventurer party that Luca just joined, and it's different from the classic team with orc warriors and elf hunters that you might imagine.

The four people, including Luke, are all ordinary humans, and none of them are professionals.

Of course, if you're a professional, you don't need to hunt goblins for a living.

Therefore, the only difference between the four people is that they are good at using different weapons.

They're more like the type who, when asked "Are you an adventurer?", answer "I think I am."

The middle-aged man who spoke was named Tolin. He served as the front-line member of the group and wielded a double-edged axe.

The other two were a young man named Peggy, who used a short sword and a round shield and was responsible for restraining the enemy during the fight.

And the squad leader, an old man with graying temples named Sutton, was skilled with a bow and arrow.

As for Luke himself, he was holding a spear that he had saved up to buy after working hard in town for half a month.

The iron spearhead was polished to a fairly sharp point, and the spear shaft had undergone a hardening treatment, which slightly increased its hardness.

However, it is only used to deal with the lowest level monsters like goblins.

His role is currently more about boosting the team's morale and distracting hordes of goblins when facing them.

"Get ready and leave quickly. Our mission isn't over yet. Staying here too long might attract other things with the smell of blood."

Captain Sutton gave the order, and the others obediently stood up and extinguished the campfire.

According to Tolin, Sutton is a very experienced hunter.

Although he didn't become a professional, he still has considerable skill.

Once, a man escaped from an ogre's lair with only a bow.

In terms of wilderness survival experience, they are definitely much better than the others.

Their mission was to hunt down a small goblin nest discovered on the outskirts of Sunset Forest.

The few we just dealt with were just a small group of goblins we encountered while out foraging for food; they were merely an appetizer.

Hunting goblins, as Torin said, is an incredibly simple task, and it's also the most popular task for low-level adventure teams.

A goblin is only a little over a meter tall and has very weak fighting ability.

In a one-on-one fight, an average adult male could easily win.

For example, just now, Luca was hunting goblins for the first time.

However, with his teammates holding him back, he still managed to pierce the chests of the three green-skinned monsters.

However, goblins often travel in groups.

Moreover, these creatures are cunning; they usually don't actively attack human settlements, but instead prey on passing caravans and adventurers in the wild.

These green-skinned monsters, with their terrifying reproductive capacity resembling cockroaches, could slowly accumulate enough power to destroy human towns if not regularly eradicated.

Therefore, the Adventurers' Guild strongly supports adventurers starting with goblin hunting, and the bounties are quite generous.

With the old hunter Sutton leading the way, the team moved very quickly.

Apart from the group of goblins we encountered at the beginning, we didn't encounter any other dangerous creatures along the way.

This also helped everyone relax.

Torin seems to be a chatterbox, Captain Sutton needs to figure out the route, and Peggy has always been very indifferent.

So Luca, the newly joined team, a somewhat thin and kind-looking young man, became the object of his endless chatter.

"I'm retiring early after this mission is over. I was thinking of working hard for a few more years, but I'm going home to get married."

"My husband is my childhood sweetheart. Last time I went back home, I accidentally got her pregnant. We haven't decided on a name for the baby yet; my family is waiting for me to decide."

"I should be able to make a lot of money this trip. I promised my mom I'd build her a new house when I got back..."

Luke responded politely, while subtly quickening his pace to move slightly away from the other person.

He had initially thought it would be a simple task, but now he was a little uncertain.

After wandering through the woods for about two hours, the scenery opened up before us.

The group arrived outside a cave and observed it from a distance of several dozen meters.

"Isn't this cave a bit too big?" Luke asked, expressing his doubts.

The cave in front of them was clearly not something that goblins could have dug; it was nearly three meters high and looked quite spacious.

Peggy, who had always been taciturn, offered an explanation:

"Although goblins can dig their own burrows, they also choose to occupy the nests of other creatures or abandoned ruins, and sometimes occupying a large cave is not uncommon."

Seeing that Luke remained very cautious, Torin patted him on the shoulder:

"Don't worry, newbie. We've already wiped out three goblin lairs before you joined."

Sutton, who had been observing the cave entrance for a while, finally spoke up:

"The mission intelligence indicates that this goblin nest contains no more than 25 ordinary goblins."

"The goblin squad we just wiped out had 14 members. Based on the footprints, they should have come from this cave, so there are probably about 10 left inside."

Sutton stroked the longbow in his hand, his gaze sweeping over the three men beside him:

"Let's decide, do we want to go in?"
