America? No, it's the warp!
Chapter 61 Good News
[Henry: Chief of Guard of the Interim Operations Command]
Loyalty: 74 (Benefited greatly from the Empire's policies)
Khorne: 7 (Humble nature)
【Dust Retention: 25 (Secondhand Smoke Tempering)】
Slaanesh: 8 (somewhat resigned)
[Tzeentch: 27 (A normal, ordinary person)]
loyalty!
Henry's numerical highlight is his loyalty to America; the legalization of leaflets allowed him to find a high-paying job and receive stock dividends.
This is a class completely different from the homeless.
Logan left the leaf shop and walked back to the waterfall park.
The temperature is getting lower and lower, and even under the midday sun, the wind blowing across your face is still cold.
Along the way, there were far fewer homeless people wandering around outside; they were all huddled in some corner.
Jonah and Sean sat chatting on the grass. They had a tent, had just eaten a good meal, and still had some spare money. They had already reserved their spots for the final winter survival.
Logan threw the two packs of cigarettes at them.
"Try it, it's one of the newest items in the store."
"Oh, thank you, boss!"
Jonah took his share, his eyes shining.
"Thanks, boss!"
Sean restrained himself a bit, took it, and first sniffed it carefully.
While they were smoking, Logan took out a $400 bill from his pocket and handed half to each of them.
"The rewards for the latter two operations."
Knowing his temperament, they did not refuse.
"Winter is coming soon. After Halloween, the temperature will be like a roller coaster. Seattle is also rainy, so don't waste this money. Go buy some waterproof and warm clothes. I don't want to have to sell your corpses to Lanny one day."
"Roger that, boss!"
With life becoming more hopeful, normal people wouldn't give up on themselves.
"Ring ring..."
Logan's phone rang.
"Hey Stephen, any good news?"
"Of course! Brother, this is confirmed. Tomorrow morning, at the entrance of the Seattle West Precinct, our deputy chief will preside over the ceremony. The mayor of Seattle, the chief of police, and other important figures will be there. The deputy chief and the mayor will present you with the Citizen Hero Award."
That's great news!
"You absolutely must come! I still have some follow-up matters to take care of, so I'll have to talk to you later."
Logan hung up the phone and saw the curious looks on his two underlings' faces; they held up their cigarettes but hesitated to put them in their mouths.
"Um... the police station is going to hold a case-closing press conference and then give me a citizen hero award or something."
Logan explained it casually, saying he didn't care much about such empty fame.
"What! Only a Citizen Hero Award?"
Jonah felt it wasn't enough.
"Exactly! They should be awarded the highest honor of citizen! A citizen hero award isn't enough!"
Sean shares the same view.
"what……"
Logan suppressed a laugh.
"This is the highest honor the Seattle Police Department can give. Honorary citizenship is awarded by the city government and requires making significant contributions to receive it."
Jonah seemed thoughtful:
"Boss, you arrested three key members of the 'Crippled Gang' this time and received a Citizen Hero Award. If you take down the entire gang next time, will you get an honorary citizenship?"
Wipe out the entire crippled gang?
Logan imagined the entire police station filled with Crippled Gang members, then quickly shook his head.
"Theoretically, it's possible, but that's a bit extreme. Besides, I'm not really interested in things like honor; money is much more practical."
"The boss is right. If honor mattered, who would join a gang?"
Sean is a pragmatist.
Logan left for work in the afternoon. Although he already owned 7% of the shares and earned $6000 a month, he still needed to work. He would quit his security job once he found a better one.
George wasn't surprised by this shift change; their past grievances had been cleared up, and they were now considered colleagues with a moderate relationship.
As I passed by him, he said mysteriously:
"Claire is waiting for you in the lounge; she's acting a bit strange today."
"What's so strange about it?"
Logan was a little curious.
George looked around to make sure no one was eavesdropping before he spoke:
"She always smiles at the air, and sometimes she suddenly gets shy, which feels a bit strange."
"Is that so..."
Anyway, be careful.
George gave earnest and pertinent advice, and only left after giving several instructions.
With a sense of exploration, Logan entered the lounge.
The sound of the door opening quickly startled Claire. She jumped up from her chair, wanting to go forward but then stopped, her face already flushed.
"Good afternoon, Claire. How did you sleep last night?"
Logan asked deliberately.
"Great! Excellent! I've never felt this good in my entire life!"
Claire's progressive evaluation clearly demonstrates her satisfaction with last night.
"Oh?"
Logan walked toward her, so close he could feel her breath.
"Since you didn't even greet me, I thought you were unhappy."
A blush spread to the roots of her ears, and Claire mustered her courage to look him straight in the eye.
"No, that's a beauty I can't even imagine."
Their eyes met, the atmosphere heated, and their lips met again.
A few minutes later, the silence was broken by the sound of a door being pushed open and questions being asked.
"Hey! What are you two doing! Why aren't you at work yet? The customers are here!"
Henry asked with a hint of annoyance, and then he saw the two people kissing passionately, who then separated after seeing him.
"oh!"
He nodded.
"You two are finally together, even later than I expected. I thought you two would be like this the next day."
Logan and Claire exchanged a glance and gave an awkward laugh.
If he hadn't been a homeless man, and if she had been braver, perhaps it really would have happened.
"Stop laughing! Go to your workstation!"
"Received! Received!"
The repetitive yet enjoyable workdays quickly came to an end, and Logan could clearly feel that being around Claire helped him wash away some of the hostility he felt towards Black people.
Stephen didn't come to his shift; another police officer replaced him, so it seems there's a lot of work to be done.
After tomorrow's press conference, Logan plans to discuss the follow-up plans with Stephen and Deputy Director Zane.
As she escorted Claire downstairs, she asked a thoughtful question:
"Seattle is going to get colder soon. Do you have any ways to keep warm? If not, would you like to move in with me? You don't have to pay rent."
Logan was moved, saying that there was warmth in America, but he didn't accept it:
"Thank you for your kindness. I have a way to get through this winter, and I will have my own house soon."
"Alright then, you must survive."
"Yes, you will too."
After the rather strange blessing, Logan returned to the tent.
Today's psychic energy was completely useless; it was perfect for predicting the course of events.
He wanted to see what the mayor looked like beforehand, so he activated [Hallucination Premonition], and a very familiar voice rang in his ears:
"Make America Great Again!"
Hmm? This isn't right, is it?
Logan was a little suspicious, so he tried it again, and this time it still produced a sound:
"You're fired!"
