Chapter 4 The Wisdom of Play
"A Second Heart! The First Stage of the Astartes Organ Modification Surgery! Could I become an Astartes too?! I'm so excited!"
"A monomolecular combat knife, a basic melee dagger of the Empire, but it's a bit pricey at 100 merit points. However, the ability to summon and recall it at any time is quite nice."
Logan couldn't afford to pay for any of them. He closed the panel and turned his gaze to Kieran's corpse, where the reward he deserved lay.
A vibrant Gundam, and the treasure trove within it.
He first took off Zilean's thick coat and put it on himself, finally bringing support to the cardboard armor he had been holding out for months. He didn't need pants, as Zilean was also wearing a pair of thin trousers.
Then, after searching all the pockets of the thick coat and trousers, they found an old cell phone, half a pack of cigarette leaves, and a lighter.
"At least I still have a cell phone."
He put the cigarettes and lighter in his trouser pocket, waiting to give them to someone destined to receive them; he didn't touch the cigarettes.
"Alright, now it's time to deal with this body."
Logan unlocked his phone; it had no password. He opened his contacts and searched for the person who had "collected the body."
However, at this moment, two more black men appeared at the alley entrance.
"Hey bro, remember the two of us?" said the tall, dreadlocked black man in front.
Logan glanced at them and immediately frowned: "Jonner and Sean, the two black dogs with the best noses in Falls Park."
"Why are you so foul-mouthed, bro? We didn't come to see you for any other reason. We were just curious when we saw you walk into the leaf shop."
The short, chubby Sean, despite his exceptionally intelligent appearance, said, "I remember you never touch leaves. We found a whole bag together last time, and you didn't want any of them."
"Yes, we also want to know where you got the money," Jonah added.
They want the leaves, they want the path, and they probably want a share of the corpse's soup later.
Those two black guys are always so greedy.
"The leaf specialty store doesn't just sell leaves, can't I buy painkillers there?"
Logan didn't want to tell them the truth, "Besides, it's just a little cash. How could a veteran like me not have any?"
He emphasized his identity and hoped the two black men would leave quickly so he could make that phone call.
However, stray dogs won't give up until they get their hands on some meat.
Sean, the shifty-eyed black man, didn't reply, his eyes constantly scanning the alley for anything unusual.
Finally, he discovered that Kieran lying there didn't seem to be high on drugs, but rather somewhat dead.
"Hey! Jonah! Look, that fentanyl zombie looks dead!" he shouted, pointing at Kiran.
"That's right! Bro! He's really dead! He's high and won't stop breathing!" Jonah noticed too.
Damn black guys! They still found us!
"Everyone who finds the body gets a share. Let's secretly sell him together and split the profits, wouldn't that be great?" Jonah said quickly.
Sean added, "Yes, this street is under the Blood Gang's control, and only they can handle the corpses. You can't just take them out and sell them yourself."
[Quest received: Waaagh!]
Two bright-eyed, green-skinned orcs appeared in your trenches; they seemed to be protecting the remains of their comrade, the body of the Astronaut.
[Reward: +20 Merit Points]
"Great, I can also complete a task while I'm at it."
"No matter what, we must not let them lay a finger on Kieran."
This is Logan's reward; of course, all the money from the sale should go to him.
But now that there are two green-skinned orcs, we can't use violence like before.
He could easily take one of them down, but the other would casually pick up a piece of hard trash from the alley and whack himself on the back of the head.
The green-skinned orcs are reckless and stupid, and almost all of them worship two possible warp gods; perhaps their names could be used to intimidate the two orcs.
[Bonus Reward: +20 Merit Points]
"Again? We absolutely can't use the system's instructions directly; these two black guys probably don't know who Brother Gao and Brother Mao are."
"But the system's guidance does have some merit; it's just that some incorrect directions need to be corrected by yourself."
"Two names that can intimidate a black man?"
"Got it!"
"Don't touch his body."
Logan stood in the middle of the alley, straightened his back, and displayed his physique, which had just been restored by his loving father, to the two black men.
Jonah looked up and asked Sean, "Has he grown taller? Can he still grow taller at his age?"
"No, no." Sean was sweating a little. "He used to hunch over, which made him look shorter. Now he's completely straightened up, so he looks much taller."
With the help of the sunlight, Logan's shadow was now cast at their feet, making them somewhat apprehensive, as if the shadow might jump up and punch them at any moment.
Logan feigned a confession: "You guys want to know where I got my money, right? I'll tell you now. I joined the Blood Gang, and the money from buying the leaves is my commission from selling enhancement agents. If you dare to take this corpse away, I guarantee Fiery Lanny will come after you two and turn you into new commodities."
Bloods and Cripples, aren't they just two names that can intimidate black people?
Jonah was a little scared. Every homeless man knew where the "fiery" in Fiery Lenny's name came from, and even if the two of them attacked together, they might not be able to beat this veteran.
He swallowed hard, took a step back, and bumped into Sean's arm.
The astute black man keenly observed the blind spot and the reason for his companion's fear: "Don't listen to his nonsense! When has the Bloods ever recruited white people? And if he could get in, why didn't he join sooner? You saw it yourself, he's been wearing that cardboard hoodie for months! And he just looks tall, he's actually very thin!"
"Exactly! You're so poor you have to rummage through trash cans with us every day, how could you possibly join the Blood Gang and make money?" Jonah finally realized what was going on and chimed in, his meager courage easily roused by his companion's few words.
"Damn it! That black bastard Sean traded his hair for wisdom that wasn't rightfully his."
[It's quite rare to find intelligent orcs. Perhaps you need to find some compelling evidence to prove that you are indeed related to those two evil gods.]
"Looks like we need to find some solid evidence, some proof that we've disturbed this body, or Hot-Blooded Lenny will really come knocking on our door."
Logan scanned the ground around him; he remembered there was such a thing.
Soon, his gaze focused on the syringe, the one with the letter "F" written on it.
"Isn't this compelling evidence?"
He picked up the syringe and threw it at their feet: "If you don't believe me, take a closer look at this syringe."
Sean picked up the syringe, somewhat puzzled, but after turning it around, he immediately understood.
The homeless people at the waterfall plaza all recognize this "F".
"Kieran's a penniless wretch, everyone knows that. He doesn't have the money to buy fentanyl from Lenny; he borrowed it and hasn't paid it back. Use your brain, Shane, if we sell this corpse, who's going to pay Lenny back?"
"We'll sell it, pay back the money first, and then split the profits equally!" Jonah was still looking for an opportunity.
"I refuse. Either you get out and let Lanny take the body away, or I'll have Lanny come to your door demanding money."
Logan is uncompromising; his success is solely his own, and his failure is everyone's failure.
Even with Sean's exceptional intelligence, he was at a loss: "Let's go! Jonah! He's a madman! He'd rather not earn any money himself than let us!"
After saying that, he pulled the unwilling Jonah away from the alley.
[Mission Completed: Waaagh!]
[Successfully drove away two green-skinned orcs, protecting the remains of the Astronaut warriors from damage.]
[Reward: +20 Merit Points]
[You cleverly used your wisdom, leveraging the titles of those two false gods of the warp, to thoroughly outwit those two foolish orcs.]
