Chapter 17 Do you want revenge?
Chi Que slowly opened his eyes.
He has returned to twenty years ago.
But this time, something is different.
He "saw" something that didn't belong to him.
Is it that girl's memory?
He slowly processed those memories and fell into deep thought.
Originally, he returned to twenty years ago only to try and change history, but now that he has these memories—
Chi Que had a bold idea.
He pushed open the door and went out.
In the corridor, the two were leaning against the wall, talking quietly. When they saw him come out, they both stood up and looked at him.
"You're awake?" the unnamed teammate said. "We're all ready."
"I want to go down alone," Chi Que refused him.
"No way," Li Xiang was the first to object. "What if you go down alone and get into an accident like the captain?"
"Going in means certain death," Chi Que said calmly. "You've already eaten the food underground."
Both of them were taken aback: "What are you talking about?"
Chi Que pointed to the ground: "You all know, right? Some places have heavy yin energy, which easily nourishes ghosts. That's the case down there. You ate food from the dead back then, and when you went down there, you were attacked by vengeful ghosts."
He spoke with such certainty that even he almost believed it himself.
The two exchanged a glance, their expressions turning hesitant.
Great, that's exactly the effect they wanted.
However, he wasn't lying; after they ate the food, they would most likely be killed by the combined resentment of the spirits that gathered there.
However, explaining the cause and effect would be too troublesome, so it's better to just find a folk saying to cover it up.
"But it's too much for you to go down alone like this..." The logistics staff seemed to want to say something more.
Chi Que picked up the puppy: "I'll take it with me. Dogs have strong yang energy, which can suppress those evil spirits."
The reason is that, like him, the puppy doesn't eat food from the ground, so taking it along won't cause any trouble and will make it easier to find people.
The puppy started barking.
The two looked at each other in bewilderment.
Chi Que had already entered the warehouse.
"Wait!" Li Xiang caught up and slapped something into his hand: "Take this!"
He looked down.
It was Chekhov's gun.
new.
Chi Que took the gun.
"Let's go," he said to the dog in his arms.
He entered the underground passage. As always, Chi Que walked slowly, the beam of his flashlight swaying in front of him, occasionally illuminating a patch of strangely shaped ferns or a clump of grayish fungi.
The dog jumped off his lap, sniffed into the depths of the passage, and then looked back at him.
"Over there?" Chi Que asked.
The dog wagged its tail.
Chi Que walked in that direction.
Then he heard a sound.
A tremor, like a heartbeat, emanated from deep underground.
The dog let out a low whimper.
"You felt it too?" Chi Que asked in a low voice.
The puppy remained motionless, as if it were frozen in fear.
He smiled and stroked the puppy's head: "It'll be alright."
He pressed himself against the rock face, slowly moving towards the direction of the sound. As the sound grew closer, he held his breath and poked half his head out—
Chi Que paused for a moment.
He's the captain.
The captain stood at the end of the passage with his back to him, his body twisted at an incredible angle.
He was banging his forehead against the wall, once, twice, three times; the sound from before was coming from him.
Chi Que walked out.
The captain stopped slamming his head against the wall and slowly turned around.
That face... reminded Chi Que of the smile of the first zombie in the original Resident Evil.
In just one day, his face was covered with fine hair, large areas of it were ulcerated, and black phlegm kept dripping from the corners of his mouth.
"..." The captain opened his mouth and uttered a muffled syllable.
Then he moved.
The speed wasn't fast, but only relative to Chen Ming, yet it carried an astonishing power.
The captain barked wildly.
The captain stopped, looked at the dog, then looked at Chi Que, and his lips twitched slightly.
"You...have come," he said.
Chi Que did not hesitate.
He pulled out a tranquilizer gun and fired a shot.
The needle pierced the captain's neck and shattered.
His heart sank.
Is shooting the only option?
The medicine mixed with black liquid dripped down. The captain looked down at himself, then looked up at Chi Que.
Then he moved.
He ripped open the skin of his left hand, biting it until it bled profusely, and then showed it to Chi Que.
"Shoot...this way," he said.
Chi Que did not hesitate.
He knew this was not the time for sentimentality, so he quickly administered the second dose of medication, precisely inserting it into the wound on his arm.
Then came the third and the fourth.
He brought the full dose, leaving only one portion for his future self—enough if it wasn't enough.
The captain leaned forward, and Chi Que reached out to catch him, but was forced back two steps by the weight of the weight.
The captain leaned on his shoulder, breathing heavily and rapidly, like a machine about to fall apart making its final, desperate attempt to function.
Chi Que remained silent.
He simply supported the captain until he collapsed.
He slowly grabbed Chi Que's sleeve; that hand was covered in black liquid, and most of his fingernails had fallen off.
"The bullet...is inside me..."
He didn't finish speaking.
His body began to spasm, his mouth opening and closing as if trying to say something, but only black liquid gushed out.
Chi Que put him on the ground.
The captain lay on his back, his eyes staring at the ceiling, his breathing growing weaker and weaker until it was no longer audible.
"I got it," Chi Que said.
He didn't know if the captain could hear him, but he spoke anyway.
"I got the bullets," he repeated.
The captain's lips twitched slightly.
It's a laugh.
Then he stopped moving.
Chi Que sat on the ground, looking at the captain's face.
The dog ran back, licked his hand, then lay down at his feet, its tail wagging gently.
The passageway was quiet.
Chi Que closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled before heading deeper into the passage.
A voice came from beside my ear:
How terrifying.
It hurts so much.
That living person is coming to kill us.
......
The sounds grew more frequent and chaotic, and something seemed to writhe and thrash in the darkness, tearing at each other.
The puppy curled up in his arms, and Chi Que was also feeling unwell. Even though it couldn't directly hurt him, this relentless emotional attack was still exhausting and difficult to sustain.
He stopped in his tracks.
"I know," Chi Que said to the darkness, "you must have suffered a tremendous injustice."
The sounds suddenly fell silent.
silence.
A long silence followed.
Then--
The sounds rang out simultaneously:
Kill him! Kill everyone!
Let him taste our pain too!
Let him die here too!
Forever! Forever! Forever!
Chi Que listened to those sounds and waited for them to gradually subside.
"I know the man you're talking about," he said. "The former lord, but he's dead, and nobody remembers him."
silence.
A deep silence.
"But you haven't forgotten," Chi Que asked, gazing into the darkness, "Do you... desire revenge?"
