Huayu: Were you ever a top star before writing nonsense?

The stage lights dimmed, bathing Shen Can in their glow.

After the intro ended, Shen Can played the guitar and began to sing:

"If you have too many complaints about this world,"

If you fall, you won't dare to go any further.

Why must people be so fragile and depraved?

Shen Can's singing voice echoed throughout the theater, clearly reaching the ears of every listener.

His pronunciation is clearer than Zhou Jielun's, after all, he grew up speaking Mandarin from elementary school.

And his emotions were very strong when he sang.

The reason is simple: he deeply empathized with the events that led to the creation of "Rice Fragrance".

The song was composed in 08 when Jay Chou witnessed a horrific natural disaster and saw many people on television rescuing lives and bravely surviving.

At the same time, there are also many young people in society who commit suicide due to depression.

These two social realities present a stark contrast.

Some people fight tooth and nail to live, while others choose to end their own lives...

In addition, the economic crisis at the time swept the globe, and countless people faced layoffs.

The whole society is filled with negative energy.

Therefore, Jay Chou thought of writing a positive song that could resonate strongly with people.

Thus, "Rice Fragrance" came into being.

This is a song of great historical significance.

Shen Can, on the other hand, personally experienced the events that occurred in the background of the song's creation.

He once donated his meager living expenses and even contemplated suicide during a low point in his life.

Even during my time living in Shanghai, every month felt like an "economic crisis."

He understood how desperately people long for help when they are in dire straits.

Even just having someone to talk to him would be good.

Shen Can continued singing:

Please turn on the TV and take a look.

So many people are bravely striving to keep going for the sake of life.

Shouldn't we be content?

Cherish everything, even if you don't possess it.

Once you understand the background of the creation, you will understand the meaning of the lyrics.

The lyrics are meant to encourage people who are contemplating suicide or facing economic crisis to be content.

Life is beautiful, don't give up easily.

Look at the people on TV; they work so hard just to survive.

These lyrics are actually a message to our compatriots who survived the disaster: to be strong and live on.

Immediately following, "Rice Fragrance" transitioned from the verse to the chorus.

Shen Can's singing voice seems to transport people back to their childhood world:

"[Remember when you said home was the only castle,]"

As the rice paddy river continues its journey...

A slight smile; I know the dreams you had as a child.

Don't cry, let the fireflies carry you away.

Country folk songs are an eternal comfort.

Let's go home, back to the beauty of the beginning.

The visuals are incredibly vivid.

The scent of rice paddies, rivers, fireflies, folk songs, home...

These are all wonderful childhood memories.

"It sounds really good." Zhao Ji said with a look of enjoyment.

comfortable.

I feel completely comfortable now.

The song is beautiful and melodious, and the singer's looks and singing skills are both excellent, making it an absolute audio-visual feast.

"He's so gentle," Zhao Ji thought to herself.

She remembered that Shen Can explained the lyrics of this song in his novel like this:

"Using childhood memories to awaken the beauty in the hearts of the wounded is his gentleness."

"He didn't blame or lecture like a father; he just wanted the injured to remember the good times they had, to see on TV those people who, despite their disabilities, were determined to live, and then to live well."

"Keep moving forward, keep looking ahead."

"It's all alright."

In a daze, Zhao Ji felt that Lin Yu, the protagonist of Shen Can's novel, had become a person.

He stood on the stage of the Shanghai Theatre Academy's New Space Theater, and then overlapped with Shen Can.

Shen Can said the protagonist is gentle, but actually it's Shen Can herself who is gentle.

This song was written for those who are injured, and for everyone.

"I want to always submit to gentleness." In Zhao Ji's beautiful pupils, only Shen Can's figure on the stage remained.

"This guy is a real big shot! If he went to 'Singing Under the Sun,' wouldn't he be able to dominate the game?" Li Jinming suddenly thought to himself, standing next to Zhao Ji.

She carefully recalled the singers on the show, and it seemed that none of them could beat Shen Can.

Among the freshmen in the performing arts department, Zhou Fang recalled what had happened backstage earlier. Out of curiosity, she turned her head to look at Pu Bajia, who was sitting to her left and behind her.

Pu Bajia's face looked as if he had eaten ten kilograms of food.

Zhou Fang sighed inwardly.

Why would you kick a weight for no reason? Besides, that weight weighs ten tons. Aren't you just asking for trouble?

On the stage.

The interlude of "Rice Fragrance" had ended, so Shen Can simply got off the high stool and stood up to sing and play the guitar, his voice amplified through the pole microphone:

Don't give up so easily.

Like I said, if you can't achieve a dream, just find another one.

To add vibrant color to one's life

First, color your love with your favorite color.

The lyrics, simply put, mean don't get stuck on something or get stuck on a rut.

"Don't give up" means don't give up on life.

If you can't achieve your dream, just find another one.

Take love, for example. As the saying goes, "There are plenty of fish in the sea, why be hung up on just one?"

Never be a sycophant.

Perhaps, when you suddenly turn around, you'll find that person right there in the dim light.

The next second, just as Shen Can finished singing this part, the song stopped abruptly.

Shen Can stopped singing, and his fingers, which were strumming the guitar strings, also stopped moving.

It's like a great movie that's suddenly paused.

Imagine this: you're engrossed in a movie, experiencing thrilling moments and unable to put it down, when suddenly, the characters stop moving and the sounds disappear.

Will it be able to quickly attract the audience's attention?

This is exactly the effect Shen Can wanted.

The pause means: think it over carefully, digest it, don't just listen, try to understand.

This is the important point!

"He's so mean," Lou Yixiao said, seeing through Shen Can's intentions.

This was the first time she had ever discovered that songwriting could be done in such a fun way.

The pause in the song was extremely brief. Shen Can brought his lips close to the microphone, his eyes deep and captivating, and he raised an eyebrow as he sang:

"Smile! Success and fame are not the goal."

Making yourself happy is what truly matters.

The paper airplane from my childhood has finally flown back into my hands.

The lyrics remain closely tied to the theme.

Happiness is the greatest thing.

But let me ask you, what exactly is happiness?

The answer is revealed in the next verse of the upbeat melody:

"【That so-called happiness,

I chased dragonflies barefoot in the field until I got tired.

I'm terrified of being stung by bees after stealing fruit.

Who's secretly laughing?

I leaned against the scarecrow, feeling the wind blowing.

Singing a song, she fell asleep...

As Shen Can sang, another childhood scene appeared before the listeners' eyes.

"This guy is a monster," Pan Zemin, deputy director of the performing arts department, couldn't help but say to the teacher next to him.

The same thought also arose in the minds of the teachers and students present.

Putting everything else aside, the melody alone is enough to dominate the Chinese music scene.

Do you really think this was created by a student from humble background?

Shen Can is practically a music industry powerhouse, isn't he? He's here specifically to show just how vast the differences between people really are?

"Hey, Teacher Chen, this is my apprentice!" Xu Ning grinned at the male teacher beside him.

Male teacher: ...

He smiled.

People can actually laugh when they're speechless.

Go to hell with your second uncle.

What did you teach him? You think you could have taught Shen Can? Shameless!
