Huayu: Were you ever a top star before writing nonsense?

It was 20:40 PM.

Everyone in the editorial department was staring at their computer screens, monitoring the subscription data on the Didi Chuxing platform.

Everyone held their breath, even more tense than watching a football game.

Shen Can is not a member of the Chinese national football team.

He's unlikely to make a mistake easily; breaking 10,000 first-day orders is a sure thing. But as a member of the Dianping team, everyone wants to witness this historic moment.

Witness a miracle.

20:42

As a thin, bespectacled male editor refreshed the page, the subscription numbers on the screen changed from four digits to five digits...

Ms. Wu, who was standing behind him, breathed a sigh of relief.

"It's over 10,000."

He said softly.

I feel like a huge weight has finally been lifted off my shoulders.

Excitement, joy, melancholy, sighs, pride... a mix of emotions welled up inside me, a complex mix of feelings.

From the moment he and his friends founded Diaoniang, and from the moment they implemented the VIP paid novel system, step by step, year after year... finally, Diaoniang's first novel to break 10,000 first-day subscriptions appeared.

In the late autumn of 07, in this season of falling leaves and approaching winter.

This is a historic moment.

He had imagined this scene countless times and talked about it with others countless times, and now it had finally appeared before his eyes.

Like the girl he had a crush on for many years, after pursuing her for years, he finally went on a date with her on the banks of the Yangtze River, where the river breeze tousled her beautiful hair.

Even more unexpectedly, the online novelist who achieved this honor was a college freshman who was not even 20 years old.

"Heroes emerge from among the young," Mr. Wu remarked.

Generally speaking, when someone becomes very capable after crossing over into another field, people will say that their talent was wasted on that career. For example, Jacky Cheung is an actor whose talent was wasted on his singing career.

But that doesn't apply to Shen Can.

Novels and singers, two originally unrelated professions, have surprisingly become mutually beneficial for Shen Can.

Shen Can reportedly gained musical inspiration from his novels and boosted novel subscriptions through his fans.

Only in this way could we achieve today's explosive results.

Meanwhile, inside the editorial department, the editors were all shocked, amazed, cheered, and overjoyed that "The All-Round Artist" had surpassed 10,000 first-day subscriptions.

When General Manager Wu walked to Qin Shu's workstation, all the editors turned to look at him.

"Xiao Qin, you did a great job! I'm going to give you a bonus!" General Manager Wu said with a smile.

"Thank you, boss."

"You deserve it. If you hadn't signed Shen Can... we don't know how dire the situation would be right now." President Wu said with deep emotion, feeling fortunate.

The editors were also deeply moved and felt a sense of lingering fear.

Last month, when Shen Can posted his book on Dianmang, no one paid attention except for Qin Shu.

Who would have thought that an entertainment writer could actually write songs? Even after suffering a ten-year stroke, I wouldn't dare to think like that! How could a novel be written like this? It's pure nonsense, is he crazy?

But this online novelist is really capable; what's even more outrageous is that he not only writes his own songs, but every single one of them becomes a hit.

Absolutely insanely fierce!

If Shen Can hadn't been signed by Dianping in time, and instead signed with other sites, especially digital sites that poached half of Dianping's top creators, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Now, the ones who should be suffering are the data stations.

"Clap clap clap clap..."

The editors applauded Qin Shu. Although many of them secretly envied or even were jealous, they also knew that the bonus should belong to Qin Shu. Some of them secretly regretted not having the foresight to sign Shen Can's novel before Qin Shu.

Qin Shu, on the surface, appeared very humble, but in reality, he was thinking, "This is what I meant by doing great things, and I've accomplished it!"

At this time.

Mr. Wu looked at Qin Shu and suddenly made a decision.

"Xiao Qin, please tell Shen Can that our company will cover the cost of the 5000 albums he gave away to his fans."

"Okay." Qin Shu was surprised for a few seconds, then nodded in agreement.

"Mr. Wu is trying to curry favor with Shen Can," Qin Shu thought to herself.

If she were the boss, she would do the same.

On the surface, Shen Can profited from giving away albums to his fans, as his novel subscriptions surged and he pleased his fans. But in reality, the biggest winner was probably the author of the novel.

The marketing effect that Shen Can achieved with 5000 albums would probably require millions of dollars from Dianping, and might not even be comparable.

Shen Can is essentially acting as a celebrity to endorse Qidian.

"No, it's even more ruthless than an endorsement! Even if Dianping hires a very dedicated celebrity, that celebrity won't write a novel on Dianping! In this situation, if President Wu doesn't make a gesture, he's just being unreasonable."

Is he, a seasoned businessman, really less insightful than a college freshman?

Qin Shu imagined it all, and the more she thought about it, the more she felt that she had seen through President Wu's thoughts.

After thinking for a moment, Mr. Wu added:

"In addition, we will pre-order another 5000 albums from Shen Can. The cost of this amount will be calculated based on the original price of his albums. We will post an announcement on the site later, and these will also be given to readers of 'The All-Round Artist'."

In addition, Dianping will buy promotional articles from some media outlets to spread the news that "The All-Round Artist" has surpassed 10,000 pre-orders online. Xiao Qin, tell Shen Can about this too.

Qin Shu looked shocked.

That's quite a move! Is this how a seasoned businessman grasps market opportunities?

I still have to learn!

Qin Shu nodded solemnly.

"it is good."

Immediately following, the sound of rapid typing filled the air as Qin Shu sent a message to Shen Can.

A short while later, Shen Can's reply came through.

"Is your boss worried that I'll be poached by another website?"

Eh?

Qin Shu looked surprised and widened her eyes.

Is that so? She hadn't thought about that. She turned to look at President Wu, who leaned closer to look at the contents, smiled, and said, "This kid is young, but he's already becoming quite the expert."

It seems that Shen Can guessed correctly.

Immediately afterwards, QQ started shaking again, and Shen Can sent another message.

"Anyway, thank you, boss... Dingniang, for your loyalty!!"

"Also, could you ask him if we could raise the revenue split a bit more? How about 90/10? Don't worry, I promise I won't tell anyone."

Qin Shu: "..."

Bro, is this what Shen Can meant by "loyalty to his mother"?

Your loyalty is far too cheap.

However, recalling Shen Can's past behavior, this was indeed something Shen Can was capable of doing.

What wouldn't someone who dares to confess their feelings to Gao Yuanyuan, Tianxianma, or Fan Xiaopang online do?

That's how carefree he is.

Qin Shu glanced at President Wu again, who was still smiling and didn't seem angry at all.

News of Shen Can has resurfaced.

"Don't worry about your boss being angry. I reckon he'll be very happy on the contrary. I'm just reassuring him."

"Say yes." Mr. Wu crossed his arms and said, "Giving up 10% of the profit from a novel in exchange for a closer cooperation with him is a good deal."

Qin Shu listened to President Wu's words while keeping her eyes glued to the screen.

Looking at Shen Can's QQ profile picture, she couldn't help but wonder if the boy on the other end was really just a freshman?

He must be some kind of old monster to be able to go toe-to-toe with Mr. Wu, right?

Outrageous.
