Elegy from Another World
Chapter 51 Deathmatch in the Dragon's Lair
The initial plan for mass production was set at one to two units per month, a realistic target considering the difficulty of obtaining materials and the craftsmen's production capacity. In the days that followed, we were bogged down in the repetitive task of collecting materials.
Using Utopia's material reconstruction module, we can directly generate the most basic and substantial refined gold ingots and stable crystal clusters, as well as the gold coins to pay Yisen, which greatly reduces our financial and transportation burden. However, several other materials, especially the first feathers of the Wind Howling Eagle and the branches of the Dragon Blood Tree, cannot be easily replicated due to their special biological activity or magical imprints, and can only be obtained through traditional hunting and searching.
The first feathers of the Howling Eagle require a specific period to collect, a process that is both time-consuming and reliant on luck. Tia was getting increasingly frustrated with her constant travels through the Riftwind Mountains. Watching the enormous birds of prey soaring between the cliffs, I suggested a bold idea: "Perhaps… we could try capturing a few fledglings of the Howling Eagle and bringing them back to Utopia for captive breeding. If we can simulate the Riftwind environment they need within Utopia, we can reliably obtain their first feathers."
Tia's eyes widened: "Simulate high-altitude airflow in a labyrinth of flesh and blood? This... is that even possible?"
I immediately contacted Xiao Bei via the communication tentacles. Xiao Bei silently calculated for a moment before replying: [Theoretically feasible. Energy can be used to create a controllable airflow field in a specific area, simulating wind pressure and temperature. However, precise data and a continuous energy supply are required. We could try capturing cubs for adaptation experiments.]
"Xiao Bei said we can give it a try," I relayed to Tia. "It's better than us trying our luck every month."
Tia thought for a moment and nodded in agreement: "Okay, it's worth a try." We devised a meticulous plan and, using anesthetic drugs and specially made nets, successfully captured several relatively healthy Wind Howling Eagle chicks. We carefully sent them back to Utopia through a secret path and entrusted them to Xiaobei and the residents to take care of.
Next came the more troublesome Dragonblood Tree Branch. We inquired around and finally learned from a dying ancient traveling merchant that deep in the Dragonbone Mountains to the northwest, there was a place called "Dragon's Cry Cave," where, according to legend, an ancient white dragon once dwelled.
Without further ado, we set off immediately. The entrance to Dragon's Cry Cave was hidden, its interior deep and winding, filled with traces of time's erosion. We cautiously ventured deeper, occasionally seeing scratches on the rock walls resembling dragon scales, but finding no signs of life.
"It seems the legend is just a legend, and the dragon has long since left." Tia relaxed her guard slightly and reached out to touch a protrusion that looked like a fossil.
"Don't touch it!" I shouted to stop them, but it was too late.
The moment Tia's fingers touched the "fossil," it suddenly glowed with a ghostly blue light! The entire cave shook, and a huge teleportation array appeared beneath their feet!
"Oh no! It's a trap!" I grabbed Tia, but the powerful spatial distortion force instantly swallowed us up.
After a dizzying spin, we found ourselves in an underground cavern far larger than we could have imagined. A massive cluster of crystals, emitting a soft white light, hung high in the ceiling, and the air was thick with the oppressive power of magic and… the distinctive scent of dragon breath, a mixture of sulfur and ozone.
"roar--!"
A deafening roar came from the depths of the cave, accompanied by heavy footsteps, and a huge figure emerged from the shadows—a real, living white dragon! It was enormous, its scales as clear as ice crystals, and its green vertical pupils coldly locked onto us two uninvited guests.
"Retreat!" I shouted, pulling Tia up and trying to go back the way we came, only to find that the rock wall behind us was smooth and intact, with no trace of the teleportation array at all!
The white dragon clearly regarded us as intruders. Giving us no time to think, it unleashed a powerful breath! However, what poured forth from its mouth was not frost or fire, but visible, distorting blue ripples that twisted space! These blue ripples crashed down like tangible battering rams, shattering rocks in their wake!
"It's a sonic attack! Visualized sonic waves!" I was shocked; this was completely beyond common sense!
"Wind Wall!" Tia reacted with lightning speed, pushing forward with both hands, instantly creating a swirling barrier of air. However, the blue sonic waves struck the wind wall, tearing it apart like a hot knife through butter! The aftershocks slammed into us!
"Pfft!" Tidang spat out a mouthful of blood, his internal organs churning in excruciating pain. I also felt as if I had been struck by a heavy hammer, my bones groaning, but the Everlasting Burning Instantly transformed the pain into a burning numbness.
"We can't take it head-on! Find cover!" I pulled the injured Tia behind a giant rock. The sonic beam blasted into the rock, instantly cracking its surface and sending debris flying.
The battle was hellish from the very beginning. The white dragon's sonic attacks had a wide range, were fast, and had extremely strong penetrating power. Ordinary magical shields and physical barriers were of little effect. Tia and I could only rely on our agility and bursts of speed to dodge and disrupt its attacks.
Tia continuously cast wind magic, attempting to disrupt the directionality of the sound waves or slow their spread with ice walls, but with limited success. Instead, her face grew increasingly pale due to the severe depletion of her magic and the internal injuries from the sonic shocks. I used water magic to create mirrors to disrupt its vision, earth magic to raise stalagmites to hinder its movement, and attempted close-range attacks on its relatively vulnerable abdomen and wing membranes. However, the white dragon's scales were incredibly tough; my attacks could only leave shallow marks, and I was repeatedly forced into dangerous situations by its tail whips or claws.
The most terrifying thing was the blue sound wave. Unable to dodge in time, the edge of a sound wave grazed my left arm, and my entire arm instantly felt as if it had been crushed by an invisible force. Bones shattered, muscles twisted, almost turning into a pile of minced meat! Intense, twisting pleasure surged through my body like an electric current! At the same time, my immortality kicked in wildly; the bits of flesh and bone writhed, visibly reorganizing and healing! Blood gushed out, soaking my clothes, while several alluring red flowers quickly bloomed on the skin around the wound.
"Lady Liscia!" Tia was terrified when she saw me like this.
"I'm alright! Keep fighting!" I shouted through gritted teeth, feeling the strange, pleasurable sensation of healing and tingling from my severed arm, and continued the battle. This immortality was now our only hope.
Time ticked by. An hour, two hours… a day passed. Tia was utterly exhausted, her magic depleted, sustained only by willpower and healing potions. I, however, grew ever more "valiant" with each battle. My body was constantly torn apart and shattered by the sonic waves, only to heal again. The relentless, burning heat transformed endless pain into a continuous, almost manic, intense pleasure, sustaining my spirit and stamina. The adrenaline surge from the battle itself, combined with this bizarre pleasure, created a chilling state of euphoria. I even began to deliberately face some non-lethal sonic attacks, just to experience the twisted "pleasure" of that instantaneous shattering and rebirth.
The next day, Tia finally collapsed after dodging one last time, falling into a coma. I placed her in a relatively safe crevice in the rocks, and faced the seemingly tireless beast alone.
The battle turned into a pure war of attrition. The white dragon's sonic attacks seemed to be consuming a great deal of energy, their frequency gradually decreasing and their power weakening. Yet, they remained powerful. And I, like an unkillable monster, was knocked down time and time again, only to rise again and again. Limbs severed? Internal organs shattered? As long as I wasn't completely defeated, I could slowly regenerate. Blood stained the cave floor, and more and more red flowers bloomed on my body, resembling an eerie, blood-red battle robe.
On the third night (judging by its internal biological clock), the white dragon's movements had become incredibly sluggish, and the sound waves it emitted had become dim and weak. For the first time, weariness and... a trace of fear appeared in its green pupils? It couldn't understand why this tiny creature was impossible to kill, and instead grew stronger with each battle?
After three days and three nights of intense pleasure, my mind entered a strange state of clarity. My fighting instincts drove my body, and each attack became increasingly precise.
Finally, after the white dragon roared with all its might, its massive body swayed, then collapsed to the ground, never to rise again. It wasn't killed outright, but rather its strength and magic were completely exhausted.
I stood beside the white dragon's corpse, covered in blood, with red flowers swaying on my body, feeling the gradually subsiding heat within me and the deathly silence of the cave.
We won this battle. A victory so hard-won, so bizarre, so…exhausting, yet tinged with a twisted sense of satisfaction. I looked at the unconscious Tia, then at the massive dragon corpse, and let out a long sigh. The Dragon Blood Branch should be somewhere in this cave, right?
