Elegy from Another World

Chapter 32 The Blade of Kindness

I memorized the last page of notes about ancient runes, closed the heavy spellbook, and casually put it into my spatial backpack. While organizing my backpack, I discovered that my previously stored provisions were almost gone. Although the nectar I carried was sweet and filling, I still needed to replenish my regular food supplies as a precaution.

Valencia was still somewhat bustling in the night. I walked to a few food stalls that were still open and bought some dried meat and hard bread that could be stored for a long time. However, on my way back to the hotel with my things, something unexpected happened!

Several figures suddenly emerged from the shadows of the alley, the attack coming without warning! Sticks and fists rained down on me; I didn't even have time to see my attackers before I was knocked to the ground. The constant burning sensation transformed the pain into a strange, searing heat, but the immense impact still left me dizzy.

"Who goes there?!" I struggled to get up, but was held down firmly. In desperation, I didn't care about anything else. With a thought, a torrent of water surged around me, binding the attackers tightly like an invisible water prison! They struggled in terror, but couldn't break free.

"How bizarre..." I stood up, dusted myself off, and prepared to take these guys to the Knights' headquarters to get some answers. But just then, the attackers imprisoned in the water dungeon suddenly began to convulse violently, their eyes rolled back, foam came out of their mouths, and they fell silent in the blink of an eye.

I was stunned. Dead? How could this be... I only used water to imprison them!

Looking at the corpses on the ground, a sense of foreboding welled up inside me, but I still decided to proceed according to the original plan. Dragging the bodies, I arrived at the entrance of the Knights' encampment and explained the situation to the guards on duty.

However, instead of an investigation and assistance, I was met with cold shackles! Several knights I had never seen before appeared expressionlessly and handcuffed my hands without saying a word.

"Wait! What are you doing? They died of their own accord! I was only acting in self-defense!" I hurriedly explained.

"Only you and the body were present at the scene, Miss Liscia," the leading knight said coldly. "We have reason to suspect you of murder and need to take you into custody for investigation."

No matter how I tried to explain, they ignored me. I was forcibly taken to the dungeon, the dark and damp environment making my heart sink. And what was worse was yet to come; they actually took me directly to the torture chamber!

The whip lashed through the air, leaving bloody welts; electric current coursed through my limbs, bringing a sharp, numbing sensation. Fortunately, the Eternal Burning Power kicked in again, twisting all the "pain" into a chilling, almost pleasurable wave of intense heat. I gritted my teeth, remaining silent and enduring the pain. Bright red blood seeped from the wounds, dripping to the ground, and at the same time, I was astonished to find that on the blood-soaked skin of my waist and inner thighs, flowers were slowly blooming—no longer pure white, but crimson, like blood itself!

I couldn't let them notice anything unusual about me. So I simply closed my eyes and pretended to have fainted under torture.

I don't know how much time passed before the torture temporarily stopped. I slightly opened my eyes and saw someone I never expected to see here—the old priest from the church hospital who had examined me before! He was standing not far away, looking at me expressionlessly.

All the grievances, anger, and confusion erupted at that moment. I suddenly raised my head and roared at him, "Why?! You arrested me on trumped-up charges and tortured me! What exactly do you want?!"

The old priest approached slowly, his face no longer bearing the previous benevolence, but instead filled with a chilling greed: "Why? Of course, it's for these miraculous flowers on you, Miss Liscia." His gaze swept hotly over the old and new white and red flowers intertwined on my body. "It can heal physical wounds and even soothe spiritual scars; it's a priceless treasure! For the rest of your life, rest assured, you will become the breeding ground for this miracle. This is the mission bestowed upon you by God, and your only value."

That's it!

All doubts vanished instantly. It wasn't a misunderstanding at all, but a premeditated trap! He had his eye on my abnormal constitution from the very beginning, and even went so far as to collude with the Knights, orchestrating this whole charade just to imprison me and raise and harvest me like a crop!

I lowered my head, unable to suppress a few low laughs. The laughter was filled with self-mockery and chilling despair. "Indeed... the ugliest aspect of human nature is that we know you want to be a good person, which is why we dare to hurt you so recklessly."

The old priest frowned, seemingly sensing something amiss in my tone: "What did you say?"

The next second, I suddenly looked up, my eyes no longer showing any confusion or weakness, only a chilling killing intent!

"I'm telling you... you've miscalculated!"

A surge of magical power erupted! The shackles binding my hands and feet shattered under the powerful water pressure! Before the knights and priests around me could react, I clenched my fists, and the magical power of water, electricity, and shadow rapidly converged and compressed in my hands, condensing into a three-colored magical short blade that shimmered with an ominous light!

His figure flashed like a ghost! The short blade sliced through the air, accompanied by a sharp whistling sound!

"Pfft!" "Ugh!"

Blood splattered! A look of shock froze on the faces of the knights and priests; their heads were already severed from their bodies. The torture chamber fell into a deathly silence, broken only by the sound of blood dripping to the ground and the increasingly intense and eerie fragrance emanating from the red and white flowers on my body.

I stood in the middle of the pool of blood, witnessing the horrific scene before me, my chest heaving violently. This wasn't self-defense; it was massacre. Yet, I felt no remorse, only a chilling sense of exhilaration, as if I had broken free of my cage and severed my shackles.

From this day forward, my kindness will carry an edge.
