Chapter 30 The Bride Snatching in the Prefectural City
Fang Wei felt something was off when she arrived at the academy that morning. Zhang Yin's gaze was strange, and she sensed something was amiss. It wasn't until the teacher arrived and discovered that Zhang Nianwei was still absent that she realized something might have happened to her.
Indeed, it's quite good.
After the teacher left the classroom, Fang Wei overheard words like "getting married" and "welcoming the bride" from the hushed discussions of Zhang Yin and other scions of prominent families.
Just as Fang Wei was trying to listen carefully, Fang Yue's anxious voice rang out from outside the window: "Xiao Wei, come out quickly! Zhang Nianwei is being forced into marriage by the Zhang family and is getting married today."
Upon hearing Fang Yue's words, Fang Wei immediately stood up, coldly staring at Zhang Yin and the others, his heart burning with anger.
Seeing Fang Wei's gaze, Zhang Yin puffed out her chest and returned the look with an arrogant glare.
Wow, that's huge... but it's such a waste of such a beautiful face. It's too willful and arrogant. If I get the chance, I'll definitely have to teach it a lesson.
Without thinking too much, Fang Wei quickly ran out.
He had just run up to Fang Yue when she anxiously told him, "Zhang Nianwei is being forced to marry the idiot in the east of the city. We need to go and see him right away."
Fang Wei was startled upon hearing this and asked, "What? Zhang Nianwei is going to marry that idiot? Who said that?"
Fang Yue was also very anxious, after all, this was a major life event for Zhang Nianwei, and marrying a mentally challenged man was simply reckless. However, Fang Yue was unaware of the whole situation; she only heard some people gloating over the discussion at school, which prompted her to run over and tell Fang Wei.
Fang Yue said, "It was said by other students, so I'm not entirely sure. Xiao Wei, this matter is very strange. Let's go and see if we can find out the reason."
Fang Wei pondered: The situation is unclear right now, so I can only go to the Zhang family first and then act accordingly. If they are really being forced into marriage, then I will snatch Zhang Nianwei back even if it means forcibly taking her away.
The two quickly left the academy and headed to the Zhang family's residence.
……
The Zhang family home was brightly decorated and bustling with activity. In front of the Zhang family's gate, a group of women and children from the neighborhood were laughing and playing, as if the joyous occasion were their own.
Along the way from Zhangjia to the east of the city, there were gongs and drums and joyful noises everywhere, creating a lively scene.
Inside the bridal sedan chair heading to the east of the city, Zhang Nianwei wore a bright red robe and a red veil, her face frosty and her heart ice-cold.
Zhang Nianwei didn't know if she hated the Zhang family, but she definitely couldn't love them. Now that her only mother was gone, she could also leave the Zhang family.
The events of that morning were still vivid in her mind, lingering there. Zhang Nianwei would always remember that scene and the faces of those people.
Thinking of this, my mother's voice and smile reappeared in my mind. My mother was so kind, so gentle, so strong, but I will never see her again.
As she thought about it, Zhang Nianwei's tears began to fall in a downpour.
My mother left because the Zhang family wanted to marry me off to a fool. Humph, my mother can't fight you, but will I let you have your way?
Zhang Nianwei had already made the worst-case scenario plan in her heart. No matter what, she would rather die than let the Zhang family have their way.
Ever since Youfu went mad, the old man of the Kuang family has never been happy again.
The son went mad, leaving no one to carry on the family line. The old man of the Kuang family hated that wicked young man to the core.
But then, good fortune struck: Zhang Wensan, the young master of the Zhang family, suddenly sent someone to say he wanted to marry Miss Zhang Nianwei to his son. The old man was incredulous. Little did he know that the Zhang family wasn't marrying off their daughter, but rather demanding a large sum of money, essentially selling Zhang Nianwei to the Kuang family.
The old man finally believed him. After paying a large sum of money to recruit him and hiring an instructor, he hurriedly began the wedding ceremony.
The Kuang family was getting married. The old man of the Kuang family personally went out, leading a wedding procession dressed in red, beating gongs and drums, and heading to the Zhang family in a grand procession.
After noon, the wedding procession arrived at the Zhang family's house. After the ceremony was completed, the bride was seen being carried out of the Zhang family's house.
People around were puzzled that the bride was being carried into a sedan chair, and the neighborhood was in an uproar.
Just then, Fang Wei and Fang Yue arrived at the Zhang family's house. As soon as they arrived, they saw the bride being helped into the bridal sedan chair by two maids.
To confirm that the bride was indeed Zhang Nianwei, Fang Weichong rushed towards the bridal sedan chair and shouted, "Zhang Nianwei!"
Although the sound of gongs and drums was loud, Zhang Nianwei still heard it.
Upon hearing Fang Wei's call, she reacted quickly and was overjoyed. She then tore off her red veil and ran towards Fang Wei, but the surrounding servants quickly grabbed her.
Upon seeing Zhang Nianwei, Fang Wei immediately turned to Fang Yue and said urgently, "I'm going to rescue Zhang Nianwei now. You go back to the prefectural school right away and find Master Qu, and tell him what happened here."
As soon as he finished speaking, Fang Wei rushed towards the bridal sedan chair before Fang Yue could react.
Watching Fang Weichong head towards the bridal sedan chair, Fang Yue glanced up at the Zhang family's plaque, then quickly pushed through the crowd and ran towards the prefectural school.
Before she could run more than a few steps in front of the bridal sedan chair, Zhang Nianwei, who had managed to break free from the maid, was grabbed and dragged back by two servants of the Zhang family.
Upon seeing this, Fang Wei swiftly wrote two dragon characters in cursive script. The dragon characters took shape and transformed into golden dragons, attacking the two servants.
Seeing someone rush out to snatch the bride, Old Man Kuang, who had learned his lesson, was furious. Even if the person was a refined gentleman, Old Man Kuang was prepared to make him bleed three pounds.
Old Kuang turned to the newly hired instructor and said urgently, "Instructor Liu, quickly stop that kid for me!"
Instructor Liu was a second-level general-level martial artist. At first, when he saw that the one who rushed out was a young man, he didn't bother to make a move. But when he saw that the other party was a refined scholar, he was startled. Upon closer inspection, he realized that the young man was about 16 or 17 years old and probably only a law-level martial artist. He was just trying to show off, and he would have made a move even if his master hadn't asked him to.
The golden dragon soared, but before it reached the servant, a martial artist rushed out and then struck the golden dragon from both sides, shattering it into pieces.
The martial artist sized up Fang Wei with disdain and said in a contemptuous tone, "Young man, you're so young, why don't you think things through? You actually came to steal a bride, you must be desperate for a wife, hahaha..."
Hearing the martial artist's words, Fang Wei understood that since the martial artist dared to step forward, he must be a general. Too lazy to explain to a lowly figure, Fang Wei directly began writing the character for "dragon" using the most powerful seal script.
When the martial artist had just broken Fang Wei's attack, he felt that the opponent's attack was very weak, so he simply stood still and waited for Fang Wei to write before defeating him, so as to show off in front of his new master.
But what the martial artist didn't expect was that Fang Wei's attack would be twice as strong this time.
The character "dragon" took shape and transformed into a golden dragon twice the size of its previous form, attacking Instructor Liu.
"Young man, you should be down-to-earth. Getting a big snake won't help," Coach Liu said dismissively.
Jinlong quickly attacked, and Instructor Liu struck a pose that he thought was incredibly impressive, preparing to unleash his signature martial arts and show off to everyone.
The golden dragon collided with the fist, and with a "bang," the golden light dissipated.
Coach Liu believed his attack would completely shatter the golden dragon and destroy the boy's confidence. But the moment his fist collided with the golden dragon, Coach Liu realized he was wrong, terribly wrong.
As the golden light spread, Instructor Liu was seen flying backward a meter and falling to the ground. He then clutched his chest and got up.
Upon seeing this, the surrounding crowd erupted in jubilation, praising the young man's remarkable talent.
When Old Man Kuang saw Instructor Liu make his move, he thought he would easily defeat the boy, but he didn't expect Instructor Liu to be so useless, and he was actually knocked away in front of everyone.
Hearing the sounds around him, Old Man Kuang felt a surge of frustration. Looking at Instructor Liu, who was clutching his chest and getting up, he flicked his sleeve and said, "What's the matter?"
Coach Liu was both ashamed and furious after being careless and knocked away, and he never expected his employer to speak to him like that.
"Hmph, I'm not as skilled as others, so I won't embarrass myself here. Farewell." With that, Coach Liu turned and walked out of the crowd.
Old Kuang never expected that a single sentence would anger Instructor Liu so much that he would leave. Now that there was a refined scholar on the other side, what should he do?
Fang Weike didn't care about any of that. As soon as Coach Liu left, he ran towards Zhang Nianwei, shouting as he ran, "Get out of my way!"
With Instructor Liu gone, Old Man Kuang had no one left to rely on, and no one who could stop Fang Wei. Old Man Kuang could only send people to find the Zhang family while ordering his servants to hold off Fang Wei.
But how could a group of lackeys possibly stop Fang Wei?
Before the servants even reached Fang Wei, Old Man Kuang saw Fang Wei writing, and then a group of servants rolled to the ground.
