The screen lit up again, and the movie officially began.

The film opens with footage of Zhang Kai's telecom fraud operation being shut down, but Zhang Kai manages to escape. It's not until five years later, when he audaciously returns to the operation, that he is finally arrested.

As the words "[Five years ago]" appeared on the screen, a news anchor's broadcast appeared on the screen.

"They mainly lure young women to Southeast Asia by recruiting people, and then force them to engage in illegal activities such as telecommunications fraud through imprisonment and abuse."

The victims are spread across mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, and the number is incalculable; their actions are utterly heinous.

As soon as the news aired, the victims' families rushed to Southeast Asia to file lawsuits against Zhang Kai.

At this point, the film's second female lead, a female lawyer played by a second-tier actress from the Ganwei agency, also appears.

She was also a victim's family member, but her claim for the death penalty was not realized. Her appeal was rejected in the first instance, and Zhang Kai was sentenced to twenty years in the second instance. Over the years, she had been traveling between the two places, and finally got the result she wanted in the third instance.

Zhang Kai, death penalty!

As the camera continues to reveal the story, Zhao Jing, Xin Yi's mother who has been abused to death, appears, as does Hui Jun, the mother of Zhen Zhen, Xin Yi's best friend who is now in a vegetative state.

At this point, all four female protagonists have appeared.

Everyone was giving their statements under the police's arrangement. Zhao Jing glanced around and noticed that among Xin Yi's three best friends, a girl named An Qi had returned safely and seemed to have not been injured.

Noticing Zhao Jing's gaze, An Qi's mother, who was also the female lawyer in charge of the case, stepped over.

"Xinyi's mother, if you have any legal questions, you can contact me directly. We stand together."

The complex and contradictory relationships between the characters thus unfold.

Xinyi, Zhenzhen, and Anqi are best friends, but it is one of them who drags her best friend into hell one after another.

Although the parents didn't say it, there was already a rift between them.

Furthermore, one of the parents' children was in a vegetative state, and the other was abused to death; only the female lawyer's child, Angie, was unharmed.

Whether out of hatred or jealousy, something is bound to happen between these three.

Zhao Jing ignored the lawyer, who also seemed indifferent and walked away. At this moment, the police came and found Zhao Jing, asking her to identify whether her daughter was in the abuse video. This was undoubtedly another blow to a mother's heart.

Fortunately, Zhao Jing and Hui Jun were also best friends. Hui Jun came out of the house and asked, "Can I help her identify it?"

The police agreed and took people into the monitoring room to watch the video. The audio from the video carried into the corridor, and Zhang Kai's devilish voice pleading with the girl for mercy could be heard.

"Are you still running or not?"

"I won't do it again, I'm sorry, I was wrong, Mom, please come and save me, Mom, save me."

......

Hearing a familiar voice in the corridor, Zhao Jing covered her eyes in despair.

After the video finished playing, Huijun walked up to Zhao Jing and silently hugged her. The person in the video was indeed Xinyi, and she... was indeed tortured to death.

Five years later, Zhang Kai was arrested, and Zhao Jing traveled from China to Southeast Asia, hoping to witness Zhang Kai's sentencing.

At the airport, they encountered Zhang Kai's mother and sister.

Zhang Kai's mother knelt before Zhao Jing and said, "Even if Zhang Kai dies, I will continue to bear his sins."

Zhao Jing ignored her and continued boarding the plane.

However, after boarding the plane, she discovered that Zhang Kai's mother and sister were seated in first class and enjoying the warm service of the flight attendants.

After landing, a luxury van came to pick them up. Zhang Kai's sister even took selfies as they walked, as if they were there for tourism.

Zhao Jing grew increasingly angry as she drove, so she hailed a taxi and followed them, only to find that the mother and daughter had arrived at a luxurious villa.

Having recorded everything on her phone, Zhao Jing was puzzled as to why Zhang Kai's family, despite their comfortable lifestyle, consistently refused to provide civil compensation to the victim's family.

After reuniting with Huijun, who was stranded in Southeast Asia for her daughter's treatment, Zhao Jing showed Huijun the videos on her phone. The two searched online for a while and also found shopping videos posted by Zhang Kai's sister on social media.

After discussing it, the two immediately headed to the shopping mall they had located, wanting to see what secrets Zhang Kai's family was hiding.

Upon arriving at the location, they saw Zhang Kai and her daughter indeed emerging from a luxury store with large bags and bundles. After confirming that they were indeed very wealthy, the two sisters sent the video to Anqi's mother, the female lawyer Yizhen.

Yizhen's voice on the phone was cold: "I saw it, so what?"

The voice on the phone was Huijun's. Her daughter was in a vegetative state, and the treatment costs were very high. She was the one who needed the money the most.

"Zhang Kai's family is so wealthy, yet he has no assets to use for civil compensation. Isn't that strange?"

Yizhen still didn't seem to care much. She said that a fraud ring like Zhang Kai's had very sophisticated money laundering methods, and that controlling the flow of his funds and gathering evidence would be an extremely complicated and difficult process. She even advised Zhao Jing and Huijun to stop.

Her daughter was the only one among them to return safely, so after seeing Zhang Kai sentenced to death, she had no desire to get involved in the matter anymore. She just wanted her daughter to live a good life. The fact that she didn't even come to watch such an important day as Zhang Kai's death sentence already speaks volumes.

Zhao Jing and Hui Jun are different. One of their daughters is dead, and the other is in a vegetative state. Their world is filled with nothing but revenge.

So the two discussed it and even used special means to meet Zhang Kai on the eve of his execution.

In the visiting room, Zhao Jing hysterically asked Zhang Kai why he was targeting Xin Yi and why she had suffered the most abuse!

But Zhang Kai is now completely in a state of "what's the use of trying" attitude; he's even mocking Zhao Jing:

"You spent so much money to see me just to come here and ask me this question?"

"I think, since the person is already dead, the money should be left to the living."

Zhang Kai's words had a double meaning; he was referring to Zhao Jing, but also to himself.

Zhao Jing had calmed down by now and asked, "Did you think everything would be over once you died?"

"No, we'll make your whole family pay the price!"

The next day was execution day.

All the victims' families were invited to the execution chamber to watch, including Zhang Kai's family.

Outside the huge glass window, everyone could see Zhang Kai's indifferent expression. As the drug was injected, Zhang Kai's breathing gradually stopped, the monitoring equipment hummed, and everything seemed to be over.

Zhang Kai's mother twitched the corner of her mouth, remaining unmoved.

Zhao Jing and Hui Jun felt a sense of emptiness. This outcome seemed very different from what they had expected. Compared to their daughter who had been abused to death, Zhang Kai's death sentence felt like a... relief!
