Chapter 48 Watching the Rehearsal
At noon, Li Qingshan woke up, slowly pulled his hand out from under the pillow, and gently pushed open the door to leave the room.
The living room's floor-to-ceiling windows offer a panoramic view of Australia and the sea.
Li Qingshan didn't even wash up. He grabbed a chair and sat down in front of the French windows, legs crossed, lost in thought.
A moment later, Han Cheng, looking confused and scratching his head, opened the door and came out. "When did you get up?"
"Just now." Li Qingshan was still in a daze.
Han Cheng also pulled up a chair and sat down next to Li Qingshan, and they both spaced out.
"Let's order hotel delivery, I don't want to move." Li Qingshan lit a cigarette and casually handed a pack of cigarettes to Han Cheng.
Han Cheng lit a cigarette and took a deep drag. "I've been holding it in all night." He got up to call and order food.
"It's all set." Han Cheng returned after making the call and they continued to stare blankly together.
Half an hour later, when Yuri opened the door to leave the room, she saw two men staring blankly out the window in the same position, but she didn't disturb them.
Yuri went straight into Li Qingshan's room and woke Jessica up; she had just received a call to have dinner ready.
When Jessica came out and saw the two men, she asked, "What's going on with them?"
"I don't know, it was like this when I came out." Yuri shrugged, indicating that she didn't understand.
"You guys go wash up first. We've already ordered food. Please keep to your distance." Li Qingshan glanced back at them.
Jessica walked up behind Li Qingshan, hugged him, and kissed him on the cheek. "What are you thinking about?"
Li Qingshan had already woken up. He reached out and touched Jessica's hand. "I was just spacing out. I wasn't thinking about anything."
Just then, the doorbell rang. The two women went into the room to avoid the strangers. Han Cheng went to open the door, and a waiter pushed a food cart in.
The waiter moved the things that hadn't been cleared away, put down six dishes, a soup, and a staple food, and then left.
"Come out, dinner's ready." Han Cheng got up and knocked on the door of the room.
The four of them ate their meal quietly together. The two women were full after a short while and leaned back on the sofa to play on their phones.
"Where are you taking me this afternoon?" Han Cheng looked up at Li Qingshan.
"Let's go for a walk. This place is only so big, we can just wander around. I've never been here before either," Li Qingshan said.
"You two aren't allowed to go to any shady places," Yuri's voice drifted over.
Yuri and Jessica received a call and went downstairs to meet up. After finishing their meal, Li Qingshan and Han Cheng each made themselves a cup of tea.
"Sit for a while, take a shower, and then we'll go out. I'll take you to the casino," Li Qingshan said after the two had left.
"That's it? Then why were you so secretive yesterday? Yuri thought we were going to some kind of fancy place." Han Cheng thought it was something more exciting.
"If I hadn't done that, would you and Yuri have gotten together so quickly? Next time, tell Yuri to keep her voice down; we all heard you." Lee Cheong-san glanced at Han Sung.
Han Cheng was taken aback, then asked quietly, "Is it big?"
"hehe."
Li Qingshan and Han Cheng got up at the same time and went back to their rooms to take a shower.
After changing their clothes, the two went downstairs and were taken aback by the huge crowd at the hotel entrance as soon as they stepped out of the elevator.
"Is this crazy?" Han Cheng looked at the crowd of people holding up all sorts of support items at the hotel entrance.
Li Qingshan continued walking out, thinking, "This is still considered good." Fortunately, some entrances and exits hadn't been occupied.
The two went to the nearest large casino and each exchanged $10,000 for chips.
"That's all you'll play. Don't get carried away after you lose," Li Qingshan remarked.
"OK, what are you going to play? Let me watch you play first." Han Cheng looked at the magnificent environment.
Li Qingshan took the chips and wandered around for a bit. He randomly found a Texas Hold'em table and sat down. There were already four people at the table: two foreigners and two Chinese. Han Cheng was standing behind Li Qingshan watching.
An hour later, Li Qingshan's chips had grown to $80,000.
He glanced at his hole cards at the start of the game, folded early, and got up to quit after finishing the game.
The chips held by the two foreigners have basically all ended up in Li Qingshan's hands.
"Why did you stop playing?" Han Cheng asked, puzzled. Li Qingshan had been very lucky.
He nodded to the two Chinese men, then looked at Han Cheng, "That's about right, we've covered the expenses for the next few days."
Han Cheng saw Li Qingshan wink at him and didn't ask any more questions.
Han Cheng played dice for almost an hour, betting on big or small, and was very lucky, winning more than 2 yuan. Li Qingshan then dragged Han Cheng to exchange the winnings.
After leaving the casino, the two headed towards the Venetian Cotai Arena.
"What just happened?" Han Cheng asked.
"When we were playing, two Chinese people heard me speaking Mandarin and let me win. Later, the three of us worked together to take on the two foreigners."
"Winning this kind of money is enough to get by. If you get greedy, you're finished. There's no way to win in this kind of place. There's only one way to win: win once and never gamble again. That's how you win."
Li Qingshan said this as he looked at the street scene, explaining that it was something his adoptive father had taught him.
"So rational?" Han Cheng looked at Li Qingshan as if he were a monster.
Li Qingshan smiled and said, "This is just for fun, that's enough."
The two chatted and laughed as they strolled toward their destination, buying whatever delicious food they saw and taking photos together whenever they saw a beautiful view. When they arrived, each of them was carrying two large bags of food.
"Make a phone call." Li Qingshan nudged Han Cheng.
Soon after, Yuri's assistant ran out, took out two work badges, and respectfully handed them to Han Cheng. The two put on their badges and went inside. A lot of fans had already gathered outside the venue.
Looking at the sea of people, Han Cheng wondered, "Isn't the concert tomorrow? Why are there so many people today?"
"I guess they're all people who came early, hoping to bump into Girls' Generation." Li Qingshan walked along, curiously observing the crowd. It was the first time he'd ever seen anything like this.
The assistant escorted them into the venue and then left. Once inside, the two saw the nine members of Girls' Generation rehearsing their positions.
The two found a place to sit down in front of the stage, and Li Qingshan took out a pineapple bun and iced milk tea and started eating.
Han Cheng followed suit and sat down next to him. A group of girls saw them when they came in, and they were furious to see the two of them eating so leisurely. They wished they could come over and beat them up.
As the song ended, several staff members gathered around and talked to them.
After the exchange ended, the nine people thanked the staff and then ran towards Li Qingshan and Han Cheng.
Without a second's thought, Li Qingshan got up and ran. Han Cheng stared blankly at Li Qingshan's departing figure, his mouth agape and his hand reaching out to grab nothing.
The nine men rushed over and surrounded Han Cheng, subjecting him to a brutal beating. They grabbed his hair, tore his clothes, and even looted his food.
Li Qingshan stopped at a distance, hands on his hips, watching Han Cheng's plight without any intention of saving him.
He only slowly walked over when he saw Jessica waving.
"Hey, you're taking me with you when you run! Look at my hair!" Han Cheng complained to Li Qingshan, pointing to his messy, bird's-nest-like hair.
"You're the one who's stupid, why blame me? I just saw a pack of wild boars charging at me. Why didn't I run and just wait to die?" Li Qingshan looked pitifully at Han Cheng.
"Hey, who are you calling a wild boar?" Jessica pouted and slapped Li Qingshan on the back, then everyone else slapped him, and someone even pinched him.
"Wow, what's this frozen milk called? It's so delicious!" Tiffany said, eating the double-skin milk pudding with an air of naiveté.
"This pineapple bun is so delicious!" Sunny said, her eyes wide as she bit into the soft pineapple bun.
Li Qingshan sat back down in his original seat, Jessica sat down next to him on the left, and what was funny was that Lin Yoona ran to sit on his right and pretended to eat as if nothing was wrong.
Jessica glanced at him but didn't say anything. Li Qingshan looked around. The people around him were eating and chatting, but their attention was all on Li Qingshan, wanting to see what he would do.
There was a moment of tension, mainly because the few people in the know started to get nervous.
Li Qingshan chuckled, took out a cigarette, and lit one. Lin Yoona and Jessica both covered their mouths and noses and stood up, frowning as they each slapped him again.
Yoona herself didn't know why she did it, but she just sat down as if possessed.
Perfectly solved.
Yuri now admires Li Qingshan immensely; he can even come up with such a wicked trick.
Han Cheng secretly gave him a thumbs up.
"Where did you guys go?" Jessica asked, trying to suppress her discomfort as she sat down.
"I went to the casino for a while, won some money, and then left." Li Qingshan glanced at Jessica and stubbed out his cigarette.
"How much did you win?" Hyoyeon asked, getting excited.
"Han Cheng won over 20,000 US dollars, and these are the things he bought." Li Qingshan pointed at Han Cheng, then at the four bags of snacks.
"Wow, what's inside?" Seohyun asked, her big eyes wide with curiosity as she looked at Han Sung.
Han Cheng looked at Li Qingshan speechlessly. How could he shirk such a responsibility?
"He won 80,000, ask him." Han Cheng pointed at Li Qingshan. He really didn't want to be questioned about this, after all, he was a prosecutor.
The nine members of the group stared at Li Qingshan in shock. Li Qingshan smiled slightly at Xu Xian and, under Xu Xian's expectant gaze, said, "Children shouldn't ask so many questions."
"I'm already 23," Seohyun pouted, unconvinced. Jessica scolded her playfully, "Don't bully Seohyun."
"I won't tell you either, it's not a good place anyway." Lee Cheong-san mimicked Seo Hyun's tone.
Seohyun stomped her feet in anger.
The concert director waved to them from afar, signaling them to start rehearsing. The nine of them put down what they were carrying and walked toward the stage.
When Yoona saw everyone else heading towards the stage, she secretly kicked Lee Cheong-san. When she saw Lee Cheong-san preparing to get up, she was so frightened that she ran away as fast as she could.
Han Cheng noticed this and moved to sit next to Li Qingshan with a fawning expression, "How did you do that? Teach me!"
"Tsk... Just focus on licking one, don't overthink it, or you'll end up with nothing." Li Qingshan shook his head, glanced at him, and mocked.
