Chapter 69 If your invention causes trouble in the future, just don't betray me.
The green-skinned captain's waaaaagh energy field suddenly surged, and the already visible green force field seemed to be ignited. Even the rocky ground beneath his feet was shaken by the force field, causing fine stone chips to jump up.
His small eyes burned with a mixture of rage and excitement. The hole in his hat burned by the particle beam was still smoking, but the captain didn't care about his head at all. What he cared about was that the darting "spider" dared to touch his hat.
"Charge! Smash all those light bubbles! Twist off the spider legs! Tear the light-blade madman and the buzzing head to shreds!"
With a roar from the captain, waaaaaagh's furious battle intent surged outwards like a tidal wave, pouring into the bodies of every orc boy.
The eyes of these green-skinned creatures almost simultaneously turned blood redder, their muscles swelled up under the amplification of the force field, and even the counterfeit force field backpacks that were about to overload and shut down became brighter with their green light amidst the waves of waaaaagh.
The firepower output doubled in an instant.
The gun-wielding kids never let go of the triggers; bullets poured out of barrels of various calibers, each bullet carrying extra kinetic energy under the influence of the waaaaaagh force field.
After the projectiles pass through the attenuation layer of the Guardian's Shield, although their speed will still be reduced, the remaining power after the reduction is enough to cause damage to the force field wall.
The first complete force field wall shattered rapidly under the concentrated fire, and the hexagonal units scattered into blue light dust like shattered glass.
The sentinel behind the force field wall urgently activated its energy core, and the semi-circular mechanical device operated frantically, attempting to generate a new force field in place to fill the gap, but the light of the blue sphere in its energy core had already begun to dim.
The second force field wall shattered a few seconds later, in a more thorough manner than the first one. The entire force field exploded from the center to the edges almost simultaneously, and the Guardian's Shield flickered a few times in the overload before going out.
Several Sentinels had completely exhausted their energy cores. The blue light inside the spherical cores went out and turned into a dim gray. The semi-circular mechanical devices drooped helplessly, only able to barely shoot out a thin beam of disintegration from the front end. It hit the orc, leaving only a shallow burn mark, slightly softening the orc's armor, but not even damaging the skin.
The battle lines were visibly retreating, but the fanatics at the forefront of those lines did not retreat an inch.
The leading fanatic crossed the psionic blades on his arms in front of his chest, blue light flowing between the patterns on his armor. His voice was transmitted to every Protoss warrior on the battlefield through the psionic link of the Kara.
Brothers and sisters.
The light blade sliced through the machete of an orc boy who was charging at him, and then cleaved him to the ground.
"The sacred Kara connects each and every one of us. I can feel your courage, your determination, just as you can feel mine."
He turned around to face the Apostles waging guerrilla warfare and the teleporting Hunters behind him, raising his psionic blade high.
"Let's fight to the very end together!"
The Apostle fired a precise beam from her blade cannon, piercing through the gap between the two orc boys and striking a gun-wielding boy reloading behind her. She teleported back from the location of the psionic ghost to the Zealot's side, the blade of the cannon gleaming in the light.
"Long live Darram!"
The Hunter's four mechanical legs trod on the gravel, its round cannon muzzle aimed at the surging green-skinned tide ahead, and void energy was gathering power within the cannon barrel, ready to be unleashed.
All the fanatics simultaneously assumed an assault stance, their arms pointing forward with light blades, and their leg enhancement pulses beginning to precharge. The apostles withdrew their psionic phantoms, and the muzzles of their blade cannons lit up at the same time.
Even the small probes were not idle. They swiftly traversed every corner of the battlefield, their blue beams constantly projecting onto the ground, warping out new crystal towers, new photon turrets, and even beginning to warp out more architectural structures, consolidating the Protoss's battle lines into a defensive network with crystal towers as nodes.
Through the smoke and ruins, the green-skinned captain could see the posture of these guys on the other side. The glowing weapons and armor were particularly conspicuous inside the dim orcish megalith, and he could clearly feel the fighting spirit emanating from each of the warriors on the other side, even across the entire passage.
The corners of his mouth, between his gold-plated fangs, slowly parted into a grin.
"Ha! Great!" The captain, carrying a giant machine gun, rattled on and on, his gold-plated fangs gleaming in the dim light. "Looks like today, besides getting a good ship and some good stuff, I'll also get to have a good fight! That's more like it! What's the point of a fight if you don't enjoy it!"
He kicked over an empty ammunition box and yelled at all the orc lads behind him, "Listen up! Anyone who embarrasses me today, I'll personally stuff them into the engine!"
Waaaaaagh!
"Waaaaaagh!!!"
His response was a battle cry from all the greenskins inside the entire orcish megalith. This collective fighting spirit converged, and the energy field of waaaaaagh surged once again. The green force field on the captain's body had become so dense that it almost became a physical entity.
A stalemate ensued between the two sides inside the orcish megalith.
The Protoss units coordinated perfectly: Zealots used Psionic Blades to hold off the Orcs' melee charges at the front, while Apostles used Haunt to constantly harass and snipe Orc firepower from the rear, Stalkers roamed the flanks and rear, disappearing immediately after Blinking to fire, Sentinels maintained the remaining Force Fields and Guardian Shields to protect the Pylons, and Probes tirelessly deployed new buildings to fill the gaps in the battle line.
On the orc side, under the captain's leadership, the comprehensive enhancement of the waaaaaagh force field significantly boosted the orc boys' combat capabilities. The knock-off force field backpacks made by the Gruz operated much more stably with the waaaaaagh's support, drastically reducing orc casualties and eliminating the previous one-sided slaughter.
For every orc boy who fell, two or three new greenskins would emerge from deeper compartments to take his place, wielding all sorts of weapons and howling as they joined the fray.
On the Christina, Rhodes stared at the ever-decreasing Universal Energy figures on the system panel, his brow furrowing deeper and deeper.
Each warp in a Zealot consumes energy, each warp in a Stalker consumes energy, and redeploying Sentinels after their energy is depleted requires additional energy. Replacing destroyed Photon Cannons also consumes energy, as do repairing destroyed Pylons. Meanwhile, the Orks' energy consumption is virtually zero. Their ammunition is self-produced, their manpower is inexhaustible, and their WAAAGAGAGAGH field only grows stronger with each battle.
At this rate of consumption, Rhodes' general energy reserves won't last much longer.
However, just as Rhodes began to consider whether he should adjust his strategy, a small incident suddenly occurred on the battlefield inside the Orcish Boulder.
A young orc wielding a machete on the front lines carried a counterfeit force field backpack with a metal disc embedded in it. With a snap, the green waaaaaagh force field trembled a few times before completely extinguishing, and a wisp of white smoke rose from the surface of the disc.
The orc boy paused for a moment, then looked down at the green light screen that had disappeared from his chest.
"Um?"
Rhodes witnessed what happened next through a psionic link.
Before the white smoke from the metal disc on the orc boy's back had even dissipated, the entire backpack exploded from the inside with a bang.
The scale of the explosion far exceeded everyone's expectations.
The waaaaaagh force field released all the energy stored in the backpack in the instant it went out of control. The green shockwave spread in all directions from the orc boy as the center. A layer of the rock wall was sheared off and a half-meter deep trench was torn up in the ground.
The zealots fighting inside the tunnel didn't even have time to react before the shockwave triggered an emergency warp protocol on the crystal arrays on their chests.
With a flash of blue light, the person and their armor vanished from their spot, forcibly teleported back to the Christina.
The orc boy within a dozen meters of the greenskins didn't receive the same treatment.
They were swallowed up by the blast wave, leaving no trace of their bodies.
The impact caused a huge crack to appear in the rock at the top of the passage, and rubble rained down, completely blocking the passage.
On the bridge of the Christina, Rhodes stood with his mouth agape, unable to close it for a long time.
Holy crap.
He stared blankly at the images transmitted back from the psionic link.
The first thought that came to mind wasn't "Great, the enemy is blown up," but rather "This is outrageous."
He quickly figured out the reason—Gruz's knock-off shield backpack, made by that tech-savvy kid, had its internal energy circulation far exceed the limits that the crudely made metal discs could withstand, thanks to the captain's ever-increasing WAAAGAGAGH force field.
It's overloaded.
The flickering appearance of the shields made even the green-skinned creatures wonder if they were about to explode.
The Protoss's plasma shield automatically reduces its frequency when overloaded to protect core components from damage.
The green-skinned counterfeit goods obviously lack such sophisticated security mechanisms.
To be precise, the words "security mechanism" simply don't exist in the Green Party's dictionary.
Rhodes frantically waved his hands in his mind.
Fine, fine, I don't want the copyright fee anymore. You guys just need to throw that piece of junk away as far away as possible.
If you ever cause an explosion, never reveal that you got your technical inspiration from me.
The Protoss shield won't turn Zealots into living Banelings.
But it's not over yet.
The first explosion was like toppling the first domino.
The shockwave swept across the nearby knock-off backpacks that were also at the critical point of overload in the waaaaaagh force field, and the metal discs on them flickered a few times almost simultaneously.
Snapped.
popping.
clap clap.
One after another, they stalled.
The moment the engine was turned off, they all exploded.
A series of explosions resounded within the orcish megalith, one after another, each louder than the last. (Green waaaaaagh)
The energy shockwave bounced back and forth within the enclosed rock wall passage, amplifying and superimposing.
The entire orcish megalith trembled violently.
Looking out of the Christina's porthole, the rocky crust of the asteroid, which had been converted into a warship, bulged outwards for a moment before exploding.
A massive crack tore open from the middle, and rubble, scrap metal, and countless green figures were flung into the void by the shockwave from the crack, tumbling and drifting further and further away in space.
From a distance, the asteroid warship had a huge hole cut through its waist, with rocks still crumbling at the edge of the hole, exposing the internal cabin structure to the vacuum, like a giant beast whose internal organs had been ripped out.
However, to Rhodes' surprise, when the psionic connection stabilized again and the image gradually returned to clarity from the white blur,
Apart from the few Zealots and Apostles who were forced back by the shockwave, the remaining Protoss forces were still alive.
Rhodes was stunned for a moment.
His gaze followed the link in the video to find the reason, and then he saw it.
It was the first probe to warp into the Orcish giant rock.
Rhodes had previously provided it with a general-purpose energy source, allowing it to freely support the Protoss warriors on the battlefield. This small, golden, floating machine had been silently deploying support facilities in various corners, without making a sound. And just seconds before the chain explosions occurred, it had completed a series of warp jumps to shield rechargers.
The timing was just before the explosion.
The shield chargers activated automatically the instant the explosion occurred, injecting energy into the plasma shields of every Protoss warrior in the vicinity, pushing the shield strength to its peak.
At the same time, the remaining mechanical sentinels used their last bit of energy to simultaneously erect the Guardian's Shield and the Force Field Wall.
The hexagonal force field unit was mostly shattered by the explosion, and the Guardian's Shield was also extinguished due to overload.
But they accomplished their mission.
The Protoss were still standing.
The smoke and dust slowly settled, revealing the devastated battlefield.
Most of the rock face collapsed, and the ground was covered with craters and scorch marks. The densely packed orc corpses and weapon wreckage were swept away by the explosion, leaving only some smoking scrap metal scattered everywhere.
In the very center of this ruin, a huge green figure lay sprawled among the rubble.
Disgusted.
The iconic pirate hat had been blown away, revealing a bald, green head. The gold foil on the two gold-plated fangs on the lower jaw was dented and pitted, the once gleaming gold now a dull, earthy yellow.
The machine gun barrel, twisted into a pretzel shape by the explosion, was completely destroyed.
The waaaaaagh force field that had once been so dense as to be almost tangible around him was now so dim that it was barely visible. Without the howls and fighting spirit of the orc horde surrounding him, an orc captain who had lost his men was like a generator that had been unplugged.
The captain tried to stand up, bracing himself against the giant machete. His thick arms trembled, and his knees hit the gravel. He managed to prop himself up halfway, but then slipped again, the tip of the machete scraping the ground with a piercing sound.
The fanatic emerged from the smoke of battle, the blue light from the psionic blades on his arms standing out starkly against the dim ruins.
The apostle emerged from the shadows on the flank, the muzzle of the bladed cannon still faintly glowing.
The hunter's four sharp metal legs pounded through the gravel with a crisp tapping sound, and the dark purple energy-charging light of the phase particle gun above its head had already lit up.
They surrounded the disheveled, green-skinned captain.
Rhodes, watching this scene from the Christina, ordered the Protoss to raise their weapons.
