He was right; the boy must have risked his life to steal food from the ration station for someone else.

The child's clothes were covered in patches, and the buttons sewn onto the cuffs were of different colors. It was obvious that someone was fixing the child's clothes; otherwise, a child who had fallen so low as to steal would not have had time to tidy up his clothes.

The completeness of his clothes also shows that the person who repaired them was very meticulous; even though they were covered in patches, there wasn't a single hole that would let the boy catch a cold.

The boy in front of him calmed down and his eyes returned to normal. He stared intently at the starch stick handed to him, then snatched it from Rod's hand and carefully hid it in the lining of his coat.

"So you still haven't told me your name!" Rhodes teased the boy in front of him, but the boy remained silent, pulled up his collar to cover most of his face, and then walked past Rhodes and Aliya, taking small steps out of the alley.

"How dare you ignore me...!" Aliya was about to lash out when Rhodes stopped her.

"Let's follow them," Rod smiled at her. "Consider it a bit of fun for me."

The boy kept his head down as he weaved through the intricate network of buildings at the dock's lower levels, occasionally slipping behind corners and crowds to avoid the law enforcement officers guarding each area.

However, he slowed down considerably, and Rhodes and his group were able to keep up with him easily.

It wasn't until he reached the very bottom of Blackwing Harbor that Rhodes saw what kind of lives the people at the bottom of this world truly led.

There was no place to stay, no houses; even the dilapidated shantytowns where farmers lived on Esperan seemed luxurious.

Most people's dwellings consisted of a tattered cloth draped over the entrance of various pipes, or a small shed made of scrap metal sheets in a corner to keep out the rain.

Every now and then, a few contract workers would come down from the upper level of the space dock, climb up to their own "homes," lift the tattered cloth that only served as a cover, hurriedly put the ration coupons they had earned in exchange for their labor under their own bags, which served as "pillows," and then close their eyes to rest.

The boy walked to a pipe at the bottom, gently lifted the pale yellow cloth covering it, and then crawled inside.

The surrounding noise was deafening. The sounds of ventilation pipes, workers' footsteps, and the roar of machinery below filled Rhodes' senses. He could only hear a faint conversation coming from under the yellow curtain, but he couldn't make out the details at all.

Without the enhancement of the Zerg's senses, even with the Zerg's psionic link, Rhodes's senses were only at an average level, unless he decided to get himself a complete set of implants to enhance his senses.

That's impossible, of course. As a native of Earth, Rhodes has an innate aversion to implants and cybernetic bodies in the Warhammer world.

Although mechanical ascension sounded good, and the group of tech enthusiasts were enjoying it, Rhodes still preferred to use his original body.

A few minutes later, the boy finally emerged from the dark ventilation duct and stood in front of Rhodes again.

"Desmond... that's my name." The boy said only one sentence, then looked at Rhodes quietly, as if waiting for his reaction.

"Desmond, do you know how dangerous the power you possess is?" Rhodes leaned close to the boy and asked in a low voice.

The other party did not answer him.

It seems he knew it himself, otherwise, judging from the near-outbreak of the subspace fluctuations, Desmond should have been taken away by the Empire's black ships long ago.

This boy was clearly also concealing his psychic potential; he certainly wouldn't have revealed his psychic power unless he was forced into a corner.

"How about I take your family with me and find a job where we don't have to worry about making ends meet?"

Desmond shook his head. In his eyes, the other party was just one of many people who wanted to use him, just like the group of religious lunatics at the bottom of the Blackwing Gang.

The only person he could rely on was himself.

Now Rhodes was out of options. The task issued by the system panel in his consciousness was still not completed, so he could only turn his attention to the crew members accompanying him.

Did you bring any emergency food?

Upon hearing this, the accompanying crew members pulled out Esperan's latest type of supplies from their equipment pockets: canned goods made from common parsnip.

Before they could answer, Rod reached out and snatched the cans from their hands, and also took a spare communicator from one of the crew members' chests.

"You and Aliya will reimburse each other, and I'll have her send you extra as a supplement."

After briefly adjusting the communicator, Rhodes found an angle that made it difficult to see from the outside and stuffed the items into the inside pocket of Desmond's coat.

"If anything happens, use this to contact me." Rod looked at the boy named Desmond in front of him, hoping that the other party would be somewhat grateful for his efforts.

Desmond didn't speak, but covered what was under his coat and went back into the pipe, never to come out again.

After a long while, the system notification sounded in Rhodes's mind.

[Task: Help Desmond (Partially Completed)]

[StarCraft 2 Shop Race Expansion Released]

How can there be a claim that it was only partially completed? Did I not help enough?

A sound of a latch being released came from the system shop panel bearing the StarCraft 2 logo. A cursor appeared above the shop's races, moving back and forth between Terran and Protoss before finally settling on the Terran category.

Rhodes rubbed his chin. Although he was still puzzled about the completion status of the mission, he knew there was no need for him to stay there any longer.

Most importantly, I have finally unlocked the Terran technology!

Now, even under the empire's nose, he can find opportunities to use the system's power without worrying about being labeled a heretic.

Rhode's communicator then rang. When he opened it, he saw that the message was not from Desmond, but from Axel, the highest authority in Blackwing Harbor.

Pressing the receive message button, a shrewd voice came from the other end of the communicator.

"Hello, Vandrick family merchant, I have new information regarding the crop supply trade to the Esperan system that we discussed earlier."

I regret to inform you that, after careful consideration, Blackwing Harbor has decided to terminate this transaction.

If you have any further questions, please come to my office and we can discuss them in detail.

"What did you say?" Aliya took the communicator from Rhodes's hand, as if she couldn't wait to go directly to the other party through the communicator's channel.

"That's not what you said when you negotiated with Barry!"
