Shen Wen's pupils suddenly contracted, his body reacting faster than his brain.

"Be careful!"

He grabbed the submachine gun, raised the muzzle, and pulled the trigger all the way down.

Da da da da—

The roar of the submachine gun exploded in the narrow corridor, making my eardrums ache.

Bullets rained down, tracing fiery arcs in the dim light before crashing into the two dark figures.

They slowed down.

It didn't stop; it was just that it was hit by bullets and staggered, its momentum being abruptly cut off.

Shen Wen didn't stop; the bullets in the magazine poured out wildly until it was empty.

The two figures finally became clear—

They are also polluters, but completely different from the previous ones.

Their skin is not grayish-white, but dark red, as if it has been peeled off, with the muscles directly exposed.

Its eyes were scarlet, gleaming menacingly in the dim light. Its mouth was open, revealing a mouthful of sharp fangs.

"Hit!" Su Qingxuan's voice came from the side.

Rifle fire.

Jiang Youchu and Su Mu also fired their guns, the bullets hitting the two figures and splattering black blood.

They are still rushing forward.

The distance is less than five meters.

Su Mu threw away his rifle, drew his longsword, and charged forward.

A flash of light appeared.

The first head flew up, gushing out a torrent of foul blood.

She didn't stop; she turned her body and slashed horizontally with her blade—

The second head also flew off.

The two corpses took two steps forward, collapsed to the ground, twitched a few times, and then lay still.

The corridor fell silent again.

Only the echoing gunshots reverberated in my ears, along with the heavy breathing of the four men.

Shen Wen put down his gun, his palms sweating profusely.

He stared at the two corpses, his heart pounding.

If the submachine guns hadn't suppressed their speed and allowed them to charge forward in that instant, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Jiang Youchu swallowed hard, took two steps closer, and a semi-transparent light screen unfolded before her eyes.

"Iron-level." She looked up at the three of them, her voice trembling slightly. "These two are Iron-level Corruptors."

Shen Wen let out a breath, his chest still heaving violently.

Iron grade.

This is a completely different concept from those rotten wood-level ones before.

That speed, that power—if it weren't for the suppressive fire of submachine guns, letting them charge over—

He glanced at Su Mu.

Su Mu stood beside the two corpses, knife in hand, his chest heaving, a few drops of blood splattered on his face, but his eyes were brighter than ever.

That was the exhilaration after the battle.

Shen Wen glanced at the two corpses again, and another thought suddenly popped into his mind.

Contaminated area.

Ten giant crocodiles of the Black Iron level.

If what we faced just now wasn't two heads, but five or ten heads—

They might really die there.

"That's pretty impressive." Shen Wen caught his breath, his voice still a little hoarse. "Black Iron level. If there were two more, it might be troublesome."

"But these two should be the limit, considering they're only slightly fierce!"

Shen Wen rubbed his temples, suppressing the lingering fear of surviving a disaster.

"Let's finish cleaning up first, so we don't get ambushed when we're looking for supplies later."

The four people stood back to back, paused for a few seconds, and then continued to move forward.

At the end of the corridor was the stairwell, with concrete steps leading upwards and disappearing into the dim light. The floor signs on the wall were crooked, and the words "2F" could be barely made out.

"Second floor." Shen Wen looked up at the corner of the stairs. "Let's go."

Footsteps echoed in the narrow stairwell. Jiang Youchu held the gun, the muzzle moving with her gaze, her finger resting on the trigger guard, ready to pull it at any moment.

The second-floor corridor is darker than the first-floor corridor.

All the overhead lights went out, leaving only a grayish-white light filtering in from the far window, casting a blurry outline on the ground.

Most of the ward doors on both sides were wide open, and it was pitch black inside, so it was impossible to see what was hidden inside.

Shen Wen slowed his pace, scanning each door with his gun.

Two figures emerged from a ward in the middle of the corridor.

It was another one of those slow-moving, decaying-wood-level polluters. Grayish-white skin, empty eye sockets, dragging its legs as it moved forward.

Shen Wen didn't fire, but looked at Jiang Youchu.

Jiang Youchu understood, picked up the rifle, and aimed.

A gunshot rang out. The first shot missed; the bullet embedded itself in the wall, sending up a spray of debris.

She steadied her breathing, and the second shot hit her squarely in the chest.

The polluter lunged forward and lay convulsing on the ground.

Su Qingxuan fired a second shot, piercing the other end's head.

The two bodies fell to the ground, and the corridor fell silent once more.

"Just these two?" Jiang Youchu put down her gun and looked around.

Shen Wen nodded: "The second floor should be cleared out."

He glanced at the time.

The delayed stop card is now active, granting an extra hour.

"There's only one floor left," Shen Wen said. "Let's go up and take a look."

The three followed him toward the stairwell.

At the corner of the three-story staircase, Shen Wen suddenly stopped and raised his hand to signal.

There was some noise.

It wasn't the slow, dragging sound of footsteps, but rather fast, hurried footsteps coming from upstairs.

Shen Wen slung the rifle behind his back and picked up the submachine gun. The magazine that had just been emptied had been replaced with a new one, fully loaded with thirty rounds.

"Get ready," he said in a low voice.

The footsteps grew closer.

The next moment, a dark figure darted out from the corner of the stairs.

Shen Wen's index finger was already on the trigger, and as the gun was raised, bullets poured out.

Da da da da—

The roar of the submachine gun exploded in the stairwell, making eardrums buzz.

The dark figure was staggered by the bullet, its forward momentum abruptly cut off, crashing into the wall and bouncing back.

Su Qingxuan and Jiang Youchu's rifles fired simultaneously.

The bullet struck the figure, and black blood splattered on the wall.

It was still struggling, flailing its arms and legs, and letting out hoarse roars.

Su Mu didn't even draw his sword.

When all three guns fired at the same time, the polluter couldn't even stand up; it was riddled with bullets.

Shen Wen emptied an entire magazine and released the trigger.

The figure finally stopped moving, curled up in the corner, its dark red skin riddled with bullet holes.

Iron grade.

Shen Wen changed to a new magazine, stared at the corpse for two seconds, and said calmly, "This should be the last one. Including the two downstairs, that makes a total of three Black Iron-class weapons."

No sooner had he finished speaking than a commotion came from downstairs.

The corrupted creatures of the Rotten Wood level were alerted by the gunfire.

At the bottom of the stairs, three or four figures slowly emerged, dragging their legs as they moved upwards step by step.

Shen Wen raised his gun and aimed.

Gunshots rang out again.

This time, no one was nervous.

Shen Wen took down one with a single shot, Su Qingxuan shot another through the chest with two shots, and Jiang Youchu also hit the third head steadily.

The remaining few hadn't even climbed to the corner of the stairs before they all lay down on the steps.

The gunfire stopped.

Shen Wen put down his gun, glanced at the corpses lying haphazardly in the stairwell, and let out a long sigh.

"Resolved."

Jiang Youchu's eyes lit up, and she grinned, "Let's start looting!!"

She was the first to rush up to the third floor, running faster than anyone else.

Su Qingxuan followed behind her, speaking quickly: "First find the medicine and chemicals. Disassemble the medical equipment if you can, otherwise forget about it."

She paused for a moment, then added, "You could look for batteries or something similar; they might come in handy later."

Shen Wen glanced at the time.
